Hope everyone is doing well as we enter the cold
winter months. First I’d like to thank Pam Ratliff and
the Craft Committee for coordinating not only an
entire year of craft classes but also a successful week
of holiday crafts.
Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to
creating opportunities for Homemaker members and
the community to make things together.
There are lots of things happening in the life of KEHA
that you don’t want to forget. Be wrapping up any
projects you would like to enter into the County
Cultural Arts Contest.
Please see the list of rules and categories included in
the newsletter. Also, mark your calendar for the
International Dinner. Prepare for a fun evening of
cultural arts as well as a closer look at Ireland.
Please notice that the next council meeting is on
Monday, January 21st at 3:30. Our office is closed that
day in observation of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
holiday but we will still be having the council
meeting. Again, although our office is closed that day
we WILL still be having the council meeting.

76’ers December Meeting The 76’ers had a great Potluck Holiday Party. The
food was extremely good and tasty to the palate. There
was a little bit of everything; from mash potatoes,
green bean casserole, ham croissants, pistachio salad
and chicken wings, to the desserts of chocolate cake,
and cookies to name a few. The 76’ers really know
how to cook! After our dinner, we played Bunko; or,
at least we tried! We made up the rules as we went.
However, next time I am sure that we will all know
enough about the game to really enjoy it. Thanks
everyone for coming together and delighting in each
other for a super nice evening out! Merry Christmas
and Happy New Year from the 76’ers!
Perryville Club News
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the
Perryville Club!
We enjoyed our December meeting at Harrodsburg's
Beaumont Inn with their delicious buffet. Prior to
eating, we conducted a limited amount of business,
exchanged white elephant gifts, and planned our
January meeting.
Our January meeting will be held Wednesday, January
9, 2019, at 11:30 at the Extension Office, room
103. We will enjoy a Soup/Chili/Sandwich Potluck.
Wilderness Trail On Thursday, December 6th, the Wilderness Trail
Homemakers visited and enjoyed a delicious meal at
Versailles Woodford Inn for their Christmas
December meeting. Some of the members had
previously frequented this establishment and for some
of us it was our first time. We had a wonderful meal
and excellent service. Will definitely eat there again in
the future.

Craft Classes Update
We've enjoyed a variety of craft classes this past year--
sewing classes, quilting classes, hand-crafted greeting
cards, locker hooking, cup & saucer centerpiece, glass
garden ornaments, baskets, needlepoint, loom knitting,
etc., and most recently, the Holiday Craft Week
classes. Thank you to all the teachers who volunteered
their time and talent to teach these classes. You are
greatly appreciated!
To help prepare for the Cultural Arts Contest
(scheduled for February 19, 2019), the Craft
Committee decided to offer assistance in finishing
those UFO's (unfinished objects) that everyone seems
to have. So on Tuesday, January 22nd, 10am-2pm,
bring your project and a sack lunch to the Extension
Office and we'll try to offer the expertise and
encouragement you need to finish that project! To
ensure we have the right experts available, we'd like to
know what craft you need assistance with. So by
January 15th, please call and tell us you're going to
need help with knitting or needlepoint or making
button holes, etc. We wanted to offer this same
assistance on a Saturday, too, so we plan to do it all
again on February 2nd, 10am-2pm. Again, bring your
lunch! Regular craft classes will resume in
March. See the February newsletter for details on
what class will be offered.
Office Closed The Boyle County Extension office will
be closed for the holidays December 24th
through January 1st. We will reopen on
Wednesday, January 2nd.
Homemaker Reports
WINTER WEATHER
inter storms and cold temperatures are typically
accompanied by ice, sleet, freezing rain and snow. While winter weather comes as no surprise, many of u not ready for its arrival. If you take these steps to prepare for winter you will be more likely to stay safe and healthy when winter comes
If you are watching or listening to the news report, here are a few phrases to know: Winter storm outlook: A winter storm is possible in the next 2 to 5 days. Winter weather advisory: Winter weather conditions are expected to cause unsafe conditions. Use caution. Winter storm watch: Winter storms are possible within the next 36 to 48 hours. If there is a winter storm watch in your area, it is important to stay up-to-date. • Winter storm warning: Severe winter conditions have begun or will begin within 24 hours. Take all safety precautions. When planning a trip, be sure to check the weather forecast for road conditions along your route before leaving.
Winterize your home Check your heating system. Inspect and clean your fireplaces and chimneys. Test your smoke detector batteries. Install a carbon monoxide detector. Stock food that is nonperishable. Sprinkle salt, cat litter or sand for traction on icy walkways.
Prepare your car
Keep the gas tank full or close to full. A full tank will keep the fuel line from freezing. Have a winter emergency kit in your trunk that includes essentials: Portable cell phone charger Blankets Flashlight First aid kit Food and water Bag of sand or cat litter for traction
Animals and cold If you have pets, bring them inside. Make sure to wipe indoor pets’ paws off when they come inside. This will help keep your floors clean but also prevent your pets from licking chemicals used to melt snow. If you have livestock or other animals, provide warm shelter and unfrozen water to drink. When a winter storm hits, arrange to check on family and neighbors who are at risk from cold weather threats: young children, older adults, and the chronically ill. Make sure to stay safe this winter by following these tips. Please visit your local Extension office to find out more ways to protect yourself and your family.
