INTRODUCTION The UNESCO/IFESCCO Regional Thematic Training for museum professionals from CIS countries – “Place and Role of Museum-Reserves in the System of Preservation and Use of Cultural Heritage”, will take place between November 9 and 12, 2012, in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova. The Thematic Training is organized within the framework of the long-term capacity-building project initiated by UNESCO and Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation (IFESCCO) “Running a Museum – XXI Century: UNESCO/ICOM Thematic Regional Trainings and expert meetings for CIS countries on museum management” (2011-2014). The Regional Thematic Training in Chisinau is a continuation of a UNESCO/ ICOM cycle of national and regional trainings that were organized with the support of UNESCO and IFESCCO for CIS countries in 2008-2011. The Thematic Regional Training is prepared on the basis of UNESCO/ICOM Educational Resource Kit “Running a Museum – XXI century", which was published in 2010 within the UNESCO and IFESCCO project in English and Russian languages. The Training in Chișinău is organized by the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History of the Republic of Moldova in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of Moldova, the National Commission of the Republic of Moldova for UNESCO, the ICOM National Committee of the Republic of Moldova and with the support and consultations with the UNESCO Moscow Office and in cooperation with the UNESCO Office in Almaty and Tashkent. The Thematic Regional Training will include about 30 museum specialists from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine, and expert trainers in the field of museum theory and management, and protection of cultural and natural heritage; managers of museum-reserves who are involved in the development of museum-reserves and have a rich practical experience and can give an expertise in the field of promotion, documentation and protection of the cultural and natural heritage. For the preparation and guidance of the Thematic Regional Training the organizers use the recommendations elaborated as a result of the previous UNESCO/ICOM trainings within the long-term project “Running a Museum – XXI century: Thematic Regional Capacity-building UNESCO/ ICOM Training Expert Meetings for CIS countries on the development of potential in museum management”, namely:

contributing to increase the number of beneficiaries of the Thematic

Regional Training, actively involving in the system of professional qualification museum professionals from CIS countries;

using the materials of UNESCO/ ICOM thematic trainings as an instrument of analysis and diagnosis of the situation in museum field at national and regional level. The information received from the participants at the Training should be used for the orientation of priorities, for taking decisions in order to develop national museums;

attracting attention of national institutions in domain of museum development in CIS countries to the possibility of professional and career growth for museum specialists who have participated in museum trainings within the UNESCO and IFESCCO long-term common Project “Running a Museum – XXI century".

Taking into consideration the complexity of museum-reserves and their role in the development of cultural tourism, during the Thematic Regional Training issues regarding main directions for the development of museum-reserves; improvement of cooperation forms between museum-reserves in CIS countries; effective use of museum-reserves; and the role of museum-reserves as factors of regional economical development will be discussed. In the context of an increased interest for the import and export of cultural goods, the participants of the Training will pay a special attention to the implementation of legal provisions in the field of protection of natural and cultural heritage and to the implementation of adopted international conventions on national and regional level, including The 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural and UNIDROIT Convention on Stolen or Illegally Exported Cultural Objects (Rome, 1995).

THEMES AND METHODOLOGY The Training is orientated to the inclusion in the system of professional training of a larger participation of museum specialists from CIS countries, in order to discuss a series of problems regarding the development of museum-reserves in present and regarding the problem of effective use of museum-reserves as economic, cultural, touristic resources for the development of regions. More than 30 professionals from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine, including expert-trainers in the theory and practice of museum management, protection of cultural and natural heritage and managers in the domain of development of museum-reserves, who have important experience in promotion and preservation of national heritage will participate at the Training. The Training Program includes lessons, discussions, dialogues and interactive exercises of experts-trainers, which will give to all participants the possibility to learn about some of the best international practices and will contribute to the development of partnerships between professionals from CIS countries. Visits to museums of the Republic of Moldova, folklore performances, master-classes of traditional popular craftsmen will contribute to a general presentation of achievements and main problems of museum-reserves. The training activities will contribute to the improvement of museum professional skills in the field of museum management. Presentation of different forms of work with the public and with cooperation of local administration, communities, NGO’s (including women and youth organizations) and educational organizations will contribute to the unification of civil society forces for the protection of cultural and natural heritage, also to the promotion of recent experience in the field, to delimitate a system of measures that will rise the interest of different social groups to problems of cultural and natural heritage in general, including the interest towards museums, especially museum-reserves as main institutions involved in the system. At the end of the Regional Thematic Training the final recommendations on the role of museum-reserves in the system of protection and promotion of cultural and natural heritage and the perspectives for cooperation within the museum-reserves of CIS countries will be elaborated. Taking into consideration the participants’ language skills and according to a general agreement, the working language of the training will be Russian.

Reniţă Alecu – Ecologist, Politician. Director of the Magazine „Natura” (“Nature”) from 1993 until present. As a politician was a consequent proponent of the integration of the Republic of Moldova in the European system of ecological security and of integration of the Republic of Moldova in the European Union. Graduated the Faculty of Journalism, State University of Moldova. One of the founder of the Ecologist Movement (1993) and President of this Movement in present. Conducted the first non-governmental expeditions to the river Nistru (1986-1989). Initiated the campaigns for the safeguarding of “Saharna” and “Stânca Mare” natural monuments (1986-1988). President of the National Centre „Naturopa” in the European Council (1995-2005). Published more than 1200 articles in the Republic of Moldova, Romania and other countries. Author and co-author of the book „Avertisment Ecologic - 1988” („Ecological warning - 1988”), „Valea Prutului de Mijloc” („Middle Prut Valey”), „Cartea Naturii” („Book of Nature”), „Almanahul Prutului și al Dunării” („Prut and Danube Almanac”), „ABC-ul turismului rural” („ABC of Rural Tourism”).
