Pre-Authorized Contributions (PAC) Our parish has introduced a Pre-Authorized Contribution option using automatic account debit to assist you in financially supporting your parish. PAC forms (ivory in color) available at both entrances of the Church. Please return completed forms and a void cheque, through the Sunday collection basket or bring to the parish office weekday mornings, as soon as possible so that there will be time to implement this PAC option in the New Year. As of February 13 we have 60 parishioners who are signed up for PAC. We have begun the process with the Archdiocese and the bank. The bank has informed us that the earliest date for training is February 28. However, even with this late date for training, entering and processing, we have been assured that the first deduction from parishioners account can be made on be March 1, 2019. It is never too late but please decide and submit your forms as soon as possible. Please continue to use your regular envelopes until we begin deducting from your account, which is scheduled for March 1, 2019. Bulletins In an effort to be more environmentally friendly, if you are receiving bulletins in your email inbox please do not take a printed bulletin from the church. If you are not receiving bulleting in your email inbox please register for the Bulletin on line http://stjwinnipeg.weebly.com/ To have the bulletin delivered to your email inbox navigate the page under “Contact” and scroll to the bottom where you will find a section that you can submit your email address. Attention All Parishioners Income Tax Receipts for 2018 have been mailed for those who have donated over $50; please keep it in a safe place as you can use it when you file your Income Tax return. For donations of $50 or less, receipts are ready for pick up from Fr. Bo’s office. Please phone the parish office any weekday morning to make an appointment. Likewise if you have any questions or need to change your address please phone. To help you figure out if you have given adequate support to your parish please take the time to divide your yearly donation (the amount on your tax receipt) by 54 for the exact amount of your contribution per Holy Day of Obligation; i.e. Sundays, New Year’s Day and Christmas Day. A yearly donation of less than $400 means that your donation per Sunday is $7.40 or less. Sharing God’s Gifts Income Tax Receipts will be mailed directly to you from the Archdiocese of Winnipeg. If you have any questions or concerns regarding Sharing God’s Gifts Receipts please call 452- 2227. Thank you from the Philippines These are pictures of the Parish priest (in blue striped shirt) and volunteers repacking food items purchased by the funds sent from St. Joseph’s Parish. The repacked food items were distributed to families of neighboring towns that were devastated by floods caused by recent typhoon Usman. YOUR ASSISTANCE IS REQUESTED When filling out your Offertory envelope please remember to indicate the amount of your donation by marking it clearly on the envelope. If you are absent on a Sunday you can double your donation but place it in just one envelope. Do not use tape on the envelopes as it sometimes sticks to the cheques and bills. If you are putting numerous coins in the envelope please put the envelope in a small baggie as the coins are heavy and can fall out. This will aid the deposit process. UNDERSTANDING the PARTS of the MASS Gathering Rite The gathering rite gives a formal beginning to our Mass and sets the mood. It is helpful to have this start, so that we all know that this is the time to open ourselves more fully to the presence of God and to leave our preoccupation with schedules, plans, and other daily concerns behind. The priest or a reader may take a moment to introduce the theme of the Mass that day. Get Up, Stand Up Standing is both a sign of respect and an expression of joy in our celebration. Gathering Song Singing is an act of prayer, and it’s usually an act of prayer that’s done with other people. St. Augustine says “One who sings prays twice.” Singing can be an act of joyful prayer, and the gathering song brings us together as a community to pray and express the joy in our hearts. If you’re not a good singer, that’s okay. There’s somebody else there that’s not a good singer in the exact opposite degree that you aren’t, and so the two of you will balance out in the end. It might not sound good to the person next to you, but it’ll sound fine to the whole Church. Greeting The priest greets the congregation in God’s name and we make the sign of the cross as he speaks the words “In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”. This ritual greeting acknowledges the presence of the Lord. After all, we believe that wherever two or three of us are gathered, Christ is there too. INTRODUCTORY OPTIONS Option one: Confiteor, or the Penitential Rite The first option for the presider to use is the Confiteor. We make it known to God and to those around us that we all have human imperfections. God expects a lot of us and sometimes we don’t live up to His expectations. This isn’t intended to make us feel guilty. Catholicism is not about guilt! It’s about being aware of our limitations, acknowledging them, and asking God’s help to make ourselves better. Option two: Sprinkling The rite of sprinkling can replace the penitential rite especially during Easter time. It is a form of blessing, and a reminder of baptism. When you are “sprinkled” acknowledge the blessing by making the sign of the cross. Option three: Litany of Praise (Lord Have Mercy) The Litany of Praise, often called the Kyrie, is often said in Greek, but can be spoken in the language of the people. This prayer is a song in which the people ask for God’s mercy, and usually should be sung. If it is not sung, it should be recited. Asking for mercy allows us to come more fully into God’s presence and opens us to hearing God’s message in the Liturgy of the Word.
