Importance of Religion Example:

Who created us? Why are we created? Why do we live this life on earth? What is our purpose in this life?

If man finds the answers to such questions, he will achieve inner peace. If he doesn’t, he will be depressed and perhaps suicidal.

ISLAMthe religion of Islam teaches that in order to achieve true peace of mind and surety of heart, one must submit to God and live according to His Divinely revealed Law.The most important truth that God revealed to mankind is that there is nothing divine or worthy of being worshipped except for Almighty God, thus all human beings should submit to Him.

"Today, I have perfected your religion (dīn) for you; I have completed My blessing upon you; I have approved

Islam for your religion.” (Al-Ma’idah)

“If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah) never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter he

will be in the ranks of those who have lost. (all spiritual good)” (Ali-Imran: 85

In seventh century Arabia, when society was gripped by idolatry, the divide between rich and poor was growing, and the Arab tribal system was thriving, Muhammad received a revelation that would transform society both within the Arabian peninsula and significantly in other parts of the world. Christianity and Judaism also originated in the Middle East,

and the Prophet made clear that far from bringing a new message, he was in fact calling people back to the one true God and to the way of life people had left. The revelations he received corrected distortions that had crept into earlier revelation and called all to return to the ‘Straight Path’ of Islam.

The Concept of IBADAH

In Islam“UNDERSTANDING THE FUNDAMENTALS OF ISLAM”

Page 18: Understanding the Fundamentals of Islam (Notes)

`Ibadah(act of worship) is an Arabic word derived from `abd (a slave) and it means submission. It portrays that God is your Master and you are His slave and whatever a slave does in obedience to and for the pleasure of his Master is `ibadah. The Islamic concept of `ibadahis very wide.

“UNDERSTANDING THE FUNDAMENTALS OF ISLAM”

Page 19: Understanding the Fundamentals of Islam (Notes)

In short, all your activities and your entire life are`ibadah if they are in accordance with the law of God, and your heart is filled with His fear, and your ultimate objective in undertaking all theses activities is to seek the pleasure of God. Thus, whenever you do good or avoid evil for fear of God, in whatever sphere of life and field of activity, you are discharging your Islamic obligations.

This is the true significance of`ibadah, namely total submission to the pleasure of Allah; the molding into the patterns of Islam your entire life, leaving out not even the most insignificant part thereof. To help achieve this aim, a set of formal`ibadat(acts of worship) has been constituted, which serves as a course of training. These`ibadatare thus the pillars on which the edifice of Islam rests.

“Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of Night and Day,― there are indeed Signs for men of understanding.― (190) Men who celebrate the praises of Allah standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and contemplate the (wonders of) creation in the heavens and the earth, (with the thought): "Our Lord! not for naught hast Thou created (all) this! Glory to Thee! Give us salvation from the penalty of the Fire”. (Al-Imran: 190)

Shirk• Muslims do not worship or submit to

anything else besides Allah, for if they do that, then they will be committing shirk (the greatest sin a Muslim can commit).

• Shirk is the practice of ascribing partners to Allah. It is also the practice of associating Allah’s qualities to

another.“UNDERSTANDING THE FUNDAMENTALS OF ISLAM”

Page 26: Understanding the Fundamentals of Islam (Notes)

How is the ascribing of partners qualified?

The ascribing of partners is qualified when a Muslim does any of the following:

• When he believes that another created being is a partner to Allah by calling that being, ‘God’.

“UNDERSTANDING THE FUNDAMENTALS OF ISLAM”

Page 27: Understanding the Fundamentals of Islam (Notes)

When he prays to anything other than Allah and when he asks it for help.

When he has the impression that anything, other than Allah, is able to help as Allah can, like matters relating to the Unseen - the future of a person, perhaps.

How is the ascribing of partners qualified?

“UNDERSTANDING THE FUNDAMENTALS OF ISLAM”

Page 28: Understanding the Fundamentals of Islam (Notes)

How does Islam regard a person who commits shirk?

• In Islam, a person who commits shirk is no more a Muslim.

• He is an unbeliever.

• Allah will not forgive him (unless he repents sincerely) for it is the gravest sin a Muslim can commit.

Page 55: Understanding the Fundamentals of Islam (Notes)

“UNDERSTANDING THE FUNDAMENTALS OF ISLAM”

How is it true?

• There are reasons why it is very important.

– It is the final part of Allah’s Plan for Creation as mentioned earlier.

Signs of The Hour

Kami menjawab: "Kami sedang berbincang tentang hari qiamat". Lalu Nabi saw. bersabda: "Tidak akan terjadi hari qiamat sehingga kamu melihat sebelumnya sepuluh macam tanda-tandanya".

Signs of The Hour

Yaumul Qiyamah

The Prophet (sallallahu alayhe wa sallam) said, whilst pointing with his index and middle fingers, "The time of my advent and the Hour are like these two fingers." In another report he said, "The Hour almost came before me."

Page 60: Understanding the Fundamentals of Islam (Notes)

“UNDERSTANDING THE FUNDAMENTALS OF ISLAM”

Page 61: Understanding the Fundamentals of Islam (Notes)

“UNDERSTANDING THE FUNDAMENTALS OF ISLAM”
