1 February2017 The 2017 CMAT Ski Trip The students have returned from the first CMAT Skiing trip to Andorra. The comments from the students are really positive. Carly Thompson said “All of the teachers were so helpful and kind; this really helped the majority to survive this trip. By the end of the first two-hour session, I was going down the nursery slope. I was really proud of myself and the rest of the group. I will definitely be coming back next year.” Beth Nunn said of the trip “Being on this trip has taught me that if I ever want something in life, I have to fight for it. I wanted to try extra hard to prove to myself that I could ski. I have also realised that I care a lot about people, more than I ever thought. I have befriended people that needed a friend, and I have supported them through the challenges they have faced. I felt so proud of them when they achieved what they wanted. c Relational Schools Unconditional Offer for Leo Nusica Leo is celebrating an unconditional offer to attend De Montfort University in Leicester after they were really impressed with his application to study business marketing next year. We started the term of with the fantastic trip to MK Theatre and Year 5 have just been to a performance by Alter Ego Creative Solutions. I am continually impressed with the hard working nature of all pupils within KCA primary. Year 6 have just completed a mock SATs week and they have excelled themselves. There will be an opportunity to meet the teachers after half term, where progress will be shared and discussed. Keep up the great work Year 5 and 6!

Mrs Savory.

Form times – SATs focus We have begun preparing the pupils for the SATs tests by focussing on reading comprehension and grammar for two lessons a week during English. Last week we taught pupils about Point, Evidence, Explain. Pupils had to match up the question to the point, evidence and explanation cards. Pupils then answered questions from an extract of ‘Oliver Twist’ using PEE. Please remind your children how to answer P.E.E. questions:

Point

Evidence

Explanation What's your point? First make a simple statement about what the writer does: • The writer suggests that... • The writer shows this by using... • The writer describes... as... Give evidence from the text to support your point. • For example... • For instance in the third paragraph... • The writer states: Explain how the writer's methods affect the reader.

Explain how key words and techniques from the evidence help to get these effects: • The effect of this is... • This makes the reader feel that...... • This suggests that... During Grammar lessons pupils have been learning about determiners, prepositions and adverbs and the active and passive voice. Please go over these terms with your children. Pupils have one lesson a week on Arithmetic. Please remember these top tips when completing an arithmetic paper: Read question carefully. Ask yourself what do you have to do? Which operation do you have to use? Move onto next question if you don’t know what to do but go back if you have time Use the inverse for some questions – make sure you know when to use it. Check through answers if you have time.
