LEAN VSO

• Introducing large sums of money into the Afghanistan economy on construction , labor, service, and commodity contracts does not help the local economy, as it is not sustainable.

• Sites are being build that are more closely resembling VSSAs than VSPs. This is contrary to the commander’s intent for VSO.

• Other construction/living options exist which do not cost as much, are sustainable, can be relocated, and send a different message to the local populace than our current methods. Upon relocation, these conditions/living options can remain in place and are able to be sustained by the local populace.

• Leaner, less expensive options might actually result in greater gains for VSO; what we are spending right now does not equal security, stability, and success in those areas where we are spending the most.
