inhabitants were “colonized” by the Celtic Gauls, the Romans under Julius Ceasar, and the Franks including Charlemagne.

• The French went on to colonize parts of Asia, Africa, the Americas, and even Europe!

• French influence is everywhere!!

oldest universities, Montpellier.
