0457/11/11/O How does it work? Getting started You can apply for an Unmetered Supply (UMS) via your Distribution Network Operator (DNO). You’ll need to submit an inventory of your equipment, from which they’ll calculate an Estimated Annual Consumption (EAC) and generate a Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN). Once all of this is complete they’ll create your Unmetered Supply Certificate which will contain all of the information your supplier needs to start supplying your energy. The important details Your connection agreement will be between you and your DNO. For a new UMS connection You’ll need to nominate us as your supplier with the DNO. The DNO will then provide us with your Unmetered Supply Certificate and we’ll register your UMS under our supply. To transfer your supply from another electricity supplier You’ll need to contact your dedicated UMS Sales Account Manager with your Unmetered Supply Certificate. They’ll discuss the current unit rates with you and any other conditions which need to be met before we transfer your supply. Products We have two UMS products available: UMS Deemed Tariff – Typically for Non Half-Hourly customers with an EAC of <50,000kWh Our Deemed Tariff is designed for an Unmetered Supply with low consumption. You won’t be tied into a fixed term contract. How do I find out who my Distribution Network Operator is? You can find out your DNO by visiting nationalgrid.com The prefix on your 13-digit Meter Point Reference Number (MPAN) will tell you which supply area you are in. However, if you’re unsure, please check under ‘electricity’ in your local phone book.

Who do I contact if I have a problem with my supply (ie my street lights are not working)? You’ll need to speak to your DNO.

Why do I have a Meter Point Reference Number (MPAN) if I have an Unmetered Supply? Your MPAN is your unique reference number. It’s used by the industry to identify your business and the equipment you submitted on your inventory when you applied for your Unmetered Supply.

What do my bill charges relate to if I don’t have a meter? The charges on your bill are based on your Estimated Annual Consumption (EAC). This is calculated by your DNO and based upon the inventory of equipment supplied to them when you applied for your Unmetered Supply. If you believe your EAC is incorrect and would like a copy of your inventory, please contact your DNO.

Why is the site address on my invoice incomplete/incorrect?An Unmetered Supply can cover many addresses and postcode areas. We’re provided with site address information by your DNO. It’s important that they have a full inventory reference/description as this appears on your UMS Certificate. If this information is incomplete, please contact your DNO to update it.
