The loader on the vehicle pictured is a purpose built gas storage unit with access to the rear roller shutter through the specially de-signed removable body headboard. This needed to be lightweight for handling yet strong

for when the body is used as a tipper - that was eas i ly solved with the use of our Ultra High Y ie ld Steel.

Pride and Joy When Jennings of Pudsey (est.1959) asked us to quote for a tipper body to go on a Thames Trader we just presumed they’d got their dates mixed up with April 1st. It wasn’t until Charles Jennings (son of founder David) called in making threatening ges-tures that we realised he was serious.

He wanted something in keeping with the era of the chassis so we consulted our oldest body builder who came up with the design, muttering something about donkey’s years. This rather pleasing result

came about through the use of state of the art ultra high yield steel and memories of a distant past.

For the record, Charles informs us, this is only the second Thames Trader they have ever bought, the first being by his father in 1964.

Caged We recently build these two Daily caged tippers for local authority multi-tasked operations. The large shelved toolbox behind the cab was built from aluminium to save weight but the crewcab variant and the toolbox spec left very little chassis length to work in a caged tipper, tail lift and tow bar. Getting the geometry and weight distribution

right for these three items caused some head-scratching but it’s the sort of chal-lenge on which our engineers thrive.

Keep on Trucking The popularity of our Hardcase bodywork continues at a brisk pace. Well proven bodybuilding techniques combined with modern abrasion resistant steels have resulted in a winning formula for both us and our clients.

This is another one destined for a major utilities company based in the South of Eng-land and includes extras such as-reverse camera, rammer holder, roof beacons, front and rear work lamps and a purpose built gal-vanized toolbox.

Bunch of Five These 5 fully insulated tippers are to be operated by a northern local authority to whom we have supplied bodywork for several years.

Ultra High Yield Steel is used extensively throughout the design of the body-work, helping to provide a robust yet lightweight product. The incorporation of UHYS more than offsets the additional weight incurred by insulating.

We are easy to find, just off the A644 you can find from J25 or J28 of the M62 and J40 from the M1. If you have any trouble, just contact us and we’ll be happy to point you in the right direction.

Where To Find Us

We have produced many tippers for this major contractor at both 32T and 7½ T GVW but this is the smallest yet. A fairly standard tipper specification but with a quite novel built in immobilizer—we’re not allowed to say how it works unfortunately.

A Reminder :Crane Tests and the Law

Every loader crane must go through a Thorough Examination and Inspection every year as required by the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER). To comply with BS 7121 part 4, the crane should go through a proof load test and the overload protection system be thoroughly examined on an annual basis. In addition to this, the British Standard calls for a thorough inspection and 25% overload test to be carried out every 4 years after first being taken into service. Non-compliance with LOLER can result in substantial fines or even imprisonment.

Spenborough offer a complete service inspection and test facility with annual reminder service once you are on the system. Call 01924 438300 to book a convenient time.
