Sophomore, Junior, Senior Portfolio Review Schedule. • YOU ARE EXPECTED TO:
Visit the Art web site http://ulm.edu/art/ for syllabus and information. Contact your advisor or other art faculty for questions, guidance, or assistance.
Portfolio review is a mechanism for art faculty to monitor and assess individual student artistic progress and report on knowledge, commitment, and ability to complete B.F.A. requirements.
Portfolio review at the sophomore, junior, and senior level provides continuous opportunities to develop, build, maintain, and present a quality portfolio of original personal visual samples culminating in a professional portfolio by graduation. Art majors are formally admitted to the B.F.A. program following successful completion of the first Art 3000 course. The completion of three ART 3000 Portfolio classes is a graduation requirement for the B.F.A. Degree. • PREPARATION SEMINAR 1
Bry 204, 9:30 am, Friday, February 23, Mandatory for review 1.
• PREPARATION SEMINAR 2 March 2. Mandatory for review 2 & 3.
• ARTIST STATEMENT DEADLINE email as text to [email protected]. By noon Friday, March 23. A confirmation
will be sent when your statement is received. • REVIEW DATES are Friday, April 13
and Friday, April 20. See schedule below.
• FOR YOUR REVIEW It is expected that each portfolio review will
see representative samples of “ALL” art related activity since the last review whether assigned, unassigned, independent, or freelance.
YOU MUST arrive 30 minutes early to set up and arrange your portfolio for review.
Use the thirty-minute window for installation, and removal of works. Arrange for as many helpers as necessary to help you. Works may be temporarily stored in Stubbs 138 before or after your review. If you need overnight storage, see Mr. Fassett to make arrangements to secure your work in Stubbs 135 to avoid lengthy transport to Bry Hall or vehicle.
Review locations will alternate between Stubbs 139 and Stubbs 140. Names highlighted in yellow will meet in Stubbs 139.
YOU must make an oral presentation, no longer than 3 minutes, about your portfolio and yourself. This is followed by a discussion with Art Faculty.
If you are unable to meet at the scheduled time/date, you must select an unassigned time/date or arrange to trade time slots with another student. All changes must be emailed to [email protected] one week prior to the dates involved.
If you have any questions, please ask your advisor or contact the Art Program office.
Your ART 3000 grade* will be based on the average of art faculty grade recommendations. A hard copy of compiled faculty rankings will be available to you the week following your review. Visit the web site to see a sample faculty check sheet.
Graduating Senior Concentration Portfolio is different from the portfolio shown at the third scheduled review. It is a limited and focused portfolio such as that presented when seeking employment, art gallery representation, or making
applications for graduate school or grants. *Graduating senior Grades 75% of a graduating senior’s Art 3000
course grade is based on faculty evaluation of the physical concentration portfolio of original art, or viewable hard copy prints submitted to the Art Program office. The remaining 25% is the semester grade average from the scheduled third review. Deliver graduating concentration portfolio before noon Monday, April 30, to the Art Program office, glass anteroom.
The concentration portfolio must include original art or hard copy prints of portfolio samples, résumé, artist's statement, and a numbered image list corresponding to the samples in the portfolio. The list must identify each sample by title, medium, actual size in inches, and approximate date of creation.
The concentration portfolio will be returned. However, you must submit a digital version
on a physical storage medium for retention by the Art Program. This should be CD, DVD, or USB drive of clearly labeled press-quality PDF images of the concentration portfolio pieces, résumé, artist's statement, and numbered image list.
You must provide a clearly labeled envelope or container that will identify and protect the storage medium after it is submitted.
Please don’t wait until the last minute to request assistance or advice. • • •
