17 All new clauses added to evaluate additional hazards that are not addressed by the standard. IEC recognizes that standards cannot always anticipate or develop requirements to address every potential hazard for every type of device capable of being evaluated by the standard. the standards development process always lags new and emerging technology. Using risk Assessment allows manufacturers to identify and control risks in their products as they design the product. the risk Assessment process must consist of risk analysis, risk evaluation and risk reduction. risks that do remain after this risk Assessment process, must provide adequate information to mitigate these risks in the instructions to the user.

major

17 — note Annex J provides guidance on how to conduct the risk Assessment process. references to risk Assessment procedures contained in other standards such as Iso 14971, sEmI s10-1296, IEC 61508, Iso 14121-1, and AnsI b11.tr3.
