1.0- INTRODUCTION PEDRO GIL, S.L. (11ereinafter, PG), has published this guide for the purpose of furnishing the necessary information for

the safe, excellent and efficient start-up and maintenance of the blowers and compact units it manufactures. The staff responsible for this task will be familiar with the contents of th.is guide.

This machine is manufactured and assembled based on the directives established in the European safety guidelines. The guide forms part of the documentation required by those guidelines and complements them with specific instructions for PG machines, with the intention of ensuring maximum safety for both people and materials.

£(i) &£ &£ ~ Lh&

2.0- SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

• Do not start up the machine without first reading the instructions guide • Disconnect the machine from the mains in the event of having to manipulate it or any of its

components • Use the appropriate protection and equipment necessary to prevent any risks that could be

caused by using and installing this equipment • Keep you body and clothes away from the rotating unit-machine and the air or gas intakes

and outputs • The sound level without the enclosure requires hearing protection to be worn • The temperature generated by the blower compression may cause burns • The transmission protection should always be put in place and installed or if there is no

such protection, it will be installed in the unit with the cabin door closed. If for any reason the unit is dismantled, it will be shut down first

• The elements for fastening the blower, engine and accessories will be checked regularly • If the blower unit has a soundproofed cabin installed, it will not be put into operation until

all the panels have been put in the place and the doors have been closed. If it is necessary to dismantle the panel where the helicoid fan is installed, the unit will be stopped first

• To prevent electrostatic discharges connect the ground clamps of both the silencer-bench and the soundproofed cabin, as applicable. The ground clamp will be made using a cable with a cross section of at least 16 sq mm.

• Do not use the blower unit outside the limits of the foreseen operating conditions • An emergency pushbutton will be provided for stopping the blower unit ifnecessa1y • Never start up the blower if t11e aspiration and impulsion flanges or both flanges are open • Always clean and degrease the blower when the machine is cold and using non-toxic Ii

quids or mixtures. Some of these liquids could react violently to heat

3.0- RECEPTION AT PLANT

The machines and their accessories will be protected from knocks that could occur during transport. The machine will be inspected once it arrives at its destination.

Check that: • There is no damage • The whole order has been received • The technical data on the blower characteristics plate coincide with those contained in the order

3.1- STORAGE

• Storage of the blowers and blowing units is extremely important to guarantee their perfect conservation • They will be stored in a dry, protected place • In the event of prolonged immobilisation, add oil to each of the two housings, up to the nonnal level • Protect the interior of the body and the pistons and machined parts with anti-corrosive oil • Tum the blower and engine shaft from time to time and avoid any defect in its support on the bearings • If the start-up is done by means of the belts, these must be loosened during storage

Page 6: UKAS - Pedro Gilpedrogil.ru/docs/manual_PG-30-F1.pdf · PEDRO GIL S.L. Construcciones mecanicas Salvador Albert I Riera, 9 - Pol.Ind. Vallmorena Tel. (34) 93 753 71 71 - Fax(34) 93

4.0- LOADING AND UNLOADING METHODS To avoid damaging any component part of the blower or blowing unit, the following aspects will be taken into ac

count during transport:

• The elastic support units in models DN-200, DN-250 and DN-300 will be correctly blocked using the safety screws included in the kit, as shown in the attached figure.

• The unit will not be subjected to knocks of any kind, and be properly protected.

• The size of the braces, belts and elevation hooks will be in keeping with the size of the load that is to be lifted.

• The unit will be secured as shown in the attached drawing, and not using the shaft or pulleys.

• The elevation mechanisms will be positioned in accordance with the centre of gravity of the unit.

• The elevation mechanism will not create any force on the machine that could cause damage.

• The DN-50 to DN-150 units with soundproofed cabins WILL NOT be transported using a crane, by using a fork-lift tmck, elevation truck or palleting machine.

• When transporting the DN-200 to DN-300 units the elastic feet of the bench will be blocked. Then the roof of the cabin will be dismantled using the hooks laid out at the corners of the roof and it will then be rested on the ground. The unit will then be held using fastening rope slings for subsequent transportation by CRANE as shown in the diagram.

5.0- ASSEMBLY AND PREPARATION FOR START-UP

• Before positioning the unit or blower, the support surface will be completely dry and clean, with no oil or rnbble.

• The foundry surfaces will be brnshed and cleaned in addition to the the anchor bolt housings, which will be blown with air if necessary.

• The foundry surface will be perfectly flat.

• Once the machine is in position and supported, the holes will be drilled on the surfaces and the impact anchor bolts put in place, without moving the unit. If the unit is installed on the base of the enclosure, the same will be done

from the base.

* BEFORE TIGHTENING THE ANCHOR BOLT SCREWS LEVEL THE UNIT USING THE HUBS INCLU DED IN THE KIT SO THAT ALL THE OIL SIGHT IN THE MACHINE INDICATE THE SAME AND THE READING ALSO COINCIDES WITH THE ONE IN THE ENCLOSURE.

IMPORTANT: INCORRECT LEVELLING COULD CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE BLOWER, SINCE IT WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE TO DETERMINE THE OIL LEVEL CORRECTLY

• The connection with the impulsion or aspiration pipe (if operating with a depression) will be stabilised as much as pos sible using the rubber hose or an axial compensator.

• In case the w1it is located in a room, check that the air intake is correctly and balance it.

4

• Install a ground clamp on the engine, silencer-bench and soundproofed cabin to prevent charges and discharges of static electricity.

5.1- START-UP

After following the instructions given above, the following points must be considered:

• CHECK THAT THE OIL-FILLING OPERATION HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT.

• Check that the oil filling and draining valves have been closed.

• Control the ROTATION DIRECTION of the blower, in accordance with the aJTow in the blower start-up housing. To do this start up and stop the machine at intervals of l second, in all cases facing the blower shaft.

• Check that the installation pipe is not blocked by any obstacles and that all the entry valves are open.

• Check that the helicoid fan is not blocked and the filter cartridge is clean, if the unit has been stored or placed in a dusty atmosphere.

• Check that the helicoid fan of the enclosure is co1mected and that the direction in which it turns is con-ect.

• Check the correct tension of the belts.

• If the electric motor is connected to a frequency converter, check that the start-up frequency is correct with respect to the mininnun and maximum values of the motor and blower.

• REMOVE THE SCREWS BLOCKING THE ELASTIC FEET (Size DN-200 / 250 / 300).

• In the event of detecting any leak in the safety valve, check that the valves are open and/or retare them.

• The unit is now ready to be started up.

• With the unit in operation under working conditions, check that the normal motor current indicated on the motor characteristics plate is not exceeded.

5.2- UNACCEPTABLE OPERATING START-UPS

* OPERATING WITHOUT OIL

*Blower rotating in the wrong direction.

* Increase in the pressure above the level indicated on the machine characteristics plate.

* Exceeding the minimum and maximum values for the engine and blower speeds.

* Exceeding the maximum temperal1ll'e limit in the machine impulsion.

*Using a type of oil that is not the one specified in section 8.0.

5.3- DISCONNECTION OR STOPPING OF THE MOTOR

*In the event of foreseeing a stoppage in the blowing unit for more than 3 weeks, we reconunend you follow the instruc tions given in section 3.1. Storage.

* In the event of sending the blower to the manufacturer for repair, empty the oil from the housing, as otherwise the ship ment will be classed as a dangerous substances shipment.

6.0- SETTING THE SAFETY VALVE

This valve is designed exclusively for protecting the blower from overloads and must be placed so that no closing part is located between the blower and the valve. IT IS NOT FOR USE AS AN ADJUSTMENT VALVE. The safety valve is supplied already adjusted to the pressure indicated on the machine characteristics plaque. The machine operating pressure usually varies with respect to the one set in the order, and for this reason sometimes it is necessary to readjust the safety valve to ensure it functions properly.

To adjust the safety valve, proceed as follows:

* Remove the cowl from the spring.

* Put the unit into normal operation to make the valve open.

*Use the nut at the back of the spring to press on the spring until the valve opens. Once it has closed, tighten the nut once more and fix with the lock nut.

* Replace the cowl.

The valve is adjusted to exact value.

6.1-INSTALATION OF THE FREQUECYVARIATOR

* Folow the procedure given in the instructions guide.

*The frequency converters to be used are for CONSTANT TORQUE operation.

*Both the minimum and maximum frequency must be set to avoid problems of lubrication and excessive temperature, if by default or exceeding the maximum speed, if by excess.

* When setting the minimum and maximum frequencies, take into account increases and reductions in the speed of both the motor and the blower.

* Adjust the converter so that functions with a smooth ran1p for both increasing and decreasing speed.

CAUTION: Earth clamp. In an actuation by converter, pay special attention to the earth clamp lay-out in order to ensure:

I-The correct operation of all the protection elements and relays for general safety 2-A minimum or acceptable level of electromagnetic interference 3-An acceptable voltage level in the bearings of both the motor and blower, to prevent current and failures in the bea

rings. 4-The electric cable connecting the converter to the motor will be shielded.

6.2- INSTALLING MOTOR WITH REVERSIBLE POLES

* Fol ow the indications in the motor guide ..

* Every time the speed is switched, the motor will be at zero revolutions.

6.3- ACCEPTABLE START-UP FREQUECIES FOR THE MOTORS

*For motors with a power less than or equal to 160 kW, no more than 6 start-ups per hour are admitted.

*For motors with a power of over 200 kW, no more than 3 start-ups per hour when cold or 2 start-ups per hour when hot are admitted.

For more information see the documentation provided by the motor manufacturer.

7-ALIGNMENT OF PULLEYS

Aligning the pulleys can be done with the aid of a steel wire or ruler. Proceed as follows:

Before perfonning any operation in the moving part of the blower unjt, check that the unit is shut down.

4 3 2

* Parallelism of the two shafts is ensured if the wire of ruler touch the pulleys at points 1, 2, 3, 4 in a straigtbt line.

7.1- TIGHTENING AND REPLACEMENT OF THE BELTS

We recommend you always replace the complete set of belts.

* Measuring the tension is based on the flexion force aimed perpendicularly at the drag rope.

*After two hours of operation, the belts must be re-tighten.

In blowers for air, it is open to the atmosphere. In blowers for enclosed gas, piped off to low pressure clamp, etc., the system necessary is adopted, dependig on the gas and the operating conditions.

8.1- OILS TABLE

To ensure the correct lubrication of the blower gears and guarantee their dUiability, it is necessary to use turbine-type oil at the viscosity indicated below.

For our machines, it is essential to use a type of oil with a kinematic viscosity of at 100' C of at least 15cSt (sqmm/s) (ISO VG-220). This type of oil will maintain its properties without any problem in blowers discharging gases at a maximum temperature of 11 O"C at the blower output.

For higher discharge temperatures, the viscosity of the oil used must be increased In this case a oil with a kinematic viscosity at 1 OO"C of at least 24c:St (sq mm/s) (ISO VG-320).

With reference to the different makes of oil, PG has no specific preference, but recommends quality brands. To offer service to potential clients that do not warrant the purchase of 200 to SO-litre drums, we have 5-litre cans.

Check the blower at the established intervals. Some intervals may vary, depending on the operating conditions of the machine. In the event of doubt, contact PG Technical Service.

9.2- CLEANING The blowers with rotating pistons operate without the pistons coming into contact and with no

contact between them and the body and lateral covers, thereby allowing these machines to work with powdered liquids up to a limited extent. The B.4 and B. 5 execution blowers (vertical passage of the liquid and from top to bottom) are more appropriate than the ones allowing for horizontal passage.

In addition, in perfom1ing vertical passage operations, in the event that the liquids carried are gases that could lead to condensation or liquids being dragged continuously and evenly (not sharp bursts of liquids), the compression chamber always remains free from them, due to gravity. A great variety of gases and gaseous mixtures are carried or pumped, and their different natures make it difficult to issue general instructions that are valid for cleaning operations. For the blowers to operate smoothly without grazing any surfaces, the pistons and body must be completely free from oil, dust or residue. If working under difficult conditions, dust, grease, residues, etc. may accumulate inside the compression chamber. In these cases the interior of the blower must be washed with an industrial detergent or solvent, depending on t11e choice of sediments. In the case of sediments that adhere to the surface, these must be cleaned with l11e aid of a scraper or the appropriate solvent, or with reheated steam. When inspecting the blower, the impulsion and aspiration pipes must be disconnected. The oil level viewers must always be clean. Check them and clean them whenever there is poor visibility. After cleaning, the oil used to grease the machine must be changed. In very difficull cases, it is advisable to cousult our technical services and request a visit by one of our experts.

9.3- CLEANING THE FILTERS

The filter cartridges can be used several times. The cartridge can be esasily cleaned after removing it. How to clean it:

1°- Knocking it gently. 2°- Blowing it with compressed air. 3°- Washing in with cold water. 4°- Tn difficult cases such as for example, if the dirt is ingrained and depending on the type of dust, it can be cleaned

with a mixture of water and any appropriate detergent that is available ..

9.4- FILTER CONTROL

In difficult operating conditions, the filter resistance can be tested by soiling it with the following instruments:

*Water column manometer * Differential manometers • Pressure gauges

10- PRESSURE SAFETY VALVE

This valve is designed to protect the blower from overload, and must be located in such a way that there is no closing part between the blower and the valve. When assembling the pipe connection flange, there should be no tension in the flange base.

COWL

BELL

The bell, piston and guide sleeve are made of bronze (in special cases they may be made of aluminium or stainless steel). It is advisable to tare the valve on starting up the blower and on installing it. Sec 6.0, assembly. Adjusting depends on the limits of the spring mounted in the valve. If the adjustment is made outside these limits, the spring must be changed. To make the adjustment or modify the differential pressure, remove tlle cowl and loosen or tighten the nuts. The bell guide sleeve does not need to be lubricated. Control the correct operation from time to time, by provoking the differential pressure indicated on the characteristics plaque attached to the valve. In the event of being blocked, dismantle and clean.

11- MOST COMMON OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES

* Acoustic enclosure.

*Relief valve.

* Vacuometer indicating the aspiration filter is blocked.

* Manometer indicating the differential pressure.

* Pressure gauge limiting the pressure, with electrical control.

*Thermostat, limiting the temperature of the compressed air or gas, with electrical control.

* PG electronic control panel, allowing the temperature, pressure, consumption, vibrations and machine oil level to be controlled. (ONLY WITH ACOUSTIC ENCLOSURE)

12- ACOUSTIC ENCLOSURE

In accordance with the acoustic legislation in force, noise is a critical factor in most working environments. For this reason PG has conducted noise studies and designed a compact soundproofed cabin with a dual purpose; to insulate and absorb the noise generated by the blower and to provide unit maintenance by centralising all the conunand and control instruments in a single front panel that is easy to manipulate.

The enclosure has a self-bearing steel structure that allows for the unit to be manipulated and trausported, and also serves to secure the acoustic panels. The panels are made of smooth galvanised plate and a sound-absorbent material coating of glass wool covered by a layer of black waterproof glass fabric.

All the enclosures are supplied with front doors for easy and fast unit maintenance, with the largest size models (DN-250 and DN-300) having side panels, each of which has a door for accessing all the unit parts.

One panel in the enclosure is prepared for the optional installation of a manometer, vacuometer and/or thennometer. All the enclosures have a built-in helicoidal electric fan to renovate the air inside.

The enclosure and unit are designed as an all-in-one, self-bearing unit to facilitate transportation and subsequent assembly.

PANEL

The enclosure is made up of a main structure (floor of the cabin, the structural beams and the instrumentation panel), fixed panels (side panels and root) and some panels that can be disassembled (front and rear panel).

The front panel is the main maintenance access, there are two folding doors and it is possible to access for the belt tightening, inlet filter maintenance and oil level control (also available from outside). Enclosure doors are opened by a key maintenance delivered with the enclosure. In order to start the blower, all the doors must be locked and the panels assembled (IMPORTANT: Don't start the blower if any panel is disassembled or door opened.)

All the panels of the enclosure are equipped with two pressure latches to make easy the handling. From rear panel it's possible the access for maintenance of the valves (safety valve, unloading valve and check valve), and in big sizes (from DN-200 to DN-300) to the rear tension screw of the frame.

13- RELIEFVALVE

General observations:

The PG relief valve eliminates air produced at the time of starting up the blower. This allows the negative effect of the overload produced by the counter pressure on start-up to be eliminated and the gradual start-up of the device.

Instalation:

The relief valve must be installed between the impulsion silencer and the anti-return valve, as shown in the diagram:

Inlet Output Relief silencer silencer Valve

Air Check Blower Safety filter valve valve

Operation:

When the blower is stopped, the valve is open. On starting up the blower, the air is let out through the pipe (A) and simultaneously the air passes through the pipe (pos. 3) of the valve. This gives rise to a dynamic pressure that acts on the upper space of the membrane (pos. 6) so that the membrane is compressed downwards and the valve is closed.

7 4

8----'::~:f:ll 9~~-v~~~_1;41--~-A

10

1 2

The valve reaction time is regulated by means of the screw (pos. 11) in such a way that the greater the dynamic pressure, the more quickly the valve closes. Once the dynamic pressure has been regulated, the nut must be tightened (pos. 10) to block the system, thereby preventing any change in that pressure.
