United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) is at the heart of national security for

the United Kingdom.

The organisation launched on 1 January 2017 following the requirement in the

2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review to establish a single provider of

government National Security Vetting Services.

It brought together the well respected vetting organisations of the Defence

Business Services National Security Vetting, and Foreign and Commonwealth

Services National Security Vetting.

On 1 April 2020, UKSV transitioned into the Cabinet Office to be at the centre

of UK security by joining the Government Security Group (GSG).

UKSV has a mandate to establish a single vetting database, portable vetting and

standardised pricing across government. UKSV aims to operate as a highly

efficient and customer focused organisation.

The Policy, Profession and Vetting Strategy Team review and cascade a system of principles that guide decisions within UKSV and the vetting

community. The team has a variety of responsibilities:

• Influencing and informing on policy, ensuring that policy instructions are periodically reviewed

• Working with counterparts throughout the vetting community and the Government Security Group to ensure that existing policies remain

relevant and up-to-date

• Providing specialist policy advise to other departments, vetting applicants and colleagues across the wider vetting community

• Collaborating with Cabinet Office colleagues to help develop and introduce development plans, such as the Government Security Framework

• Reviewing practices and processes throughout UKSV, working with training and operations teams to guarantee a strong and effective learning

and development culture in UKSV

• Implementing new strategies to ensure vetting remains fair and impartial and is accessible to people across all backgrounds

The PPVS team can offer an engaging and dynamic career within UKSV but there are also wider career development opportunities throughout

UKSV and the Government Security Profession. As one of the more centralised teams we are ideally located to offer our own staff the opportunity

to diversify their career options within the Civil Service.
