It’s imperative that you have a safe, secure car seat to protect your child when you’re out and about. Maxi-Cosi car seats are designed to the highest possible safety standards and there is one to suit every child, from newborn to age 12, so you know you’re choosing the very best for your young family.

The right fit for your childAlways choose the correct car seat for your child’s current height and weight – see our ‘Which group?’ chart. Age should only be used as an indication. Remember, all children grow at different rates.

Rearward-facing is best for newbornsA rearward-facing car seat gives more support to your baby’s head, neck and spine. Your child needs to travel rearward- facing until they weigh at least 9kg (20lb). The Maxi-Cosi Pebble used with the FamilyFix Base (IsoFix) and the Maxi-Cosi Opal (seat belt installation) both offer extra legroom for babies up to 13kg in weight, so they can travel rearward-facing in complete safety and comfort for longer. The right car seat for your vehicleYou can check that your car seat is compatible with your car by going to www.maxi-cosi.com/gb-en/carselector. Always take your car with you when choosing your new car seat so that you know it fits and how to install it securely.

IsoFix or seat belt?There are two main ways to fix car seats:

using the car IsoFix connection points or with a 3-point car seat belt. See pages 52-53 for more information on the Maxi-Cosi IsoFix and seat belt fixing systems.

Make life easyLook out for car seat features such as harness hooks for easy loading and installation indicators that let you know your child is safely secured.

Easy-change covers for your car seat (invaluable in case of spillages) and accessories such as drinks holders and play trays will help to make travel time go smoothly.

Say ‘No’ to second-handFinancially tempting though it may be, it’s not a good idea to get a second-hand car seat. You can’t be sure it hasn’t been in a crash (any seat involved in a collision MUST be replaced as its structure could be compromised even if there’s no visible sign of damage). When it comes to installation, the chances are you won’t have the instruction manual for a second-hand seat and won’t be sure you are fitting it correctly. But the type of car seat you buy depends on the age, make and model of your car – some are designed to work with IsoFix anchor points that connect to the car’s IsoFix system, others on their own with the car’s three-point seat belt and some can be used on bases that secure by either method. So what is isofix?IsoFix (International Standards Organisation FIX) is widely recognised as the safest way to install a child car seat. It is estimated that a staggering

two-thirds of car seats are incorrectly fitted, but IsoFix is so user-friendly that it makes it almost impossible to get installation wrong.

Most modern cars come fitted with IsoFix connection points located at the back of the vehicle seat. These are permanently connected to the body of the car, and your IsoFix car seatattaches securely to these connection points. Some very new cars even come fitted with a third point that prevents the seat from tipping forward. Simple!

Click and go!Fitting your Maxi-Cosi car seat to the IsoFix system is easy. Some of our seats click directly into these points while others clip to the Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix or EasyFix Base.

All Maxi-Cosi IsoFix car seats and bases are fitted with a height-adjustable support leg that rests on the floor of the car. This means that the seats and bases can be used in most cars made in the past few years. For additional peace of mind, there are indicators that tell you the car seat is correctly fitted before you take to the road.
