impotente de la vida de los dems. El paso del tiempo y la tragedia

Rights ReservedHan pasado ms de 5 aos desde que Enrique Ramal me
hablara de un relato corto que l haba escrito sobre la
transformacin de una guapa adolescente en drogadicta, vista travs
de los ojos de un admirador secreto. A da de hoy poco queda de ese
relato, pero creo que la esencia de lo que me cautivo cuando lo le
sigue viva en este cortometraje.Con el tiempo me he dado cuenta que
eso es lo bonito de los trabajos creativos. Hace aos yo era de los
que defenda a capa y espada que lo ideal era ser fel a una idea e
intentar plasmarla en pantalla lo ms parecida posible a su versin
original. Hoy en da pienso que existen ciertos trabajos donde es
mejor que todo fuya y mute en algo distinto. Este es uno de
ellos.Siempre intento aprender algo de todos los trabajos en los
que me involucro y este no ha sido menos. Lo primero que he
aprendido es que nadie valora sufciente a los guionistas. La
especializacin de trabajo existe porque una misma persona, salvo
excepciones, no puede ser igual de bueno en varias tareas
distintas. Es por ello que a partir de ahora intentar dedicarme
nicamente a dirigir, que adems me gusta mucho ms que escribir.Otra
de las cosas que he aprendido es que el cine y la televisin no solo
no hablan el mismo idioma, sino que ni siquiera tienen la misma raz
gramatical. Peor an, hasta que tuve que enfrentarme creativamente a
este hecho, no fui consciente de lo cierto que era. Mi experiencia
profesional se basa en aos de trabajo para el mundo televisivo,
pero en esta historia era fundamental saber controlar el tempo, y
eso solo te lo da todo aquello de lo que la televisin carece.Cuento
todo esto porque, tanto el haber escrito el guin como el haberme
enfrentado a ese reto visual, ha hecho que me sienta orgulloso de
haber sabido sacrifcar, de una historia inicial de casi veinte
minutos, un metraje de aproximadamente tres minutos, desvirtuando
incluso el guin original, con el fn de favorecer la historia.
Cranme, es muy difcil.Por ltimo quiero agradecer a todo el equipo
que ha trabajado en este corto su implicacin en el mismo, en
especial a la gente del rodaje as como al equipo de Machango Studio
y a Juan Carlos Cruz por el esfuerzo de postproduccin que ha
implicado esta pelcula. Creo que este esfuerzo colectivo es
evidente en el corto acabado, y espero que el pblico sabr

Story BoardSecuencia 01 / Sequence 01More than fve years have
passed since Enrique Ramal talked to me of a short story he wrote
about the transformation of a beautiful teenager into a drug
addict, as seen through the eyes of a secret admirer. To this day,
little remains of that story, but I believe that the essence of
what captivated me when I read it lives on in this short flm.With
time I have realised that this is the lovely thing about creative
works. Years ago I was the type of person who fought tooth and nail
to defend that the ideal thing was to be faithful to an idea and to
try to express it on screen in the truest way possible to the
original version. Nowadays I think that there are certain works
where it is better to let things fow and transform into something
different. This is one of them.I always try to learn something from
all of the works that I get involved in and this one has not been
any different. The frst thing that I have learned is that nobody
values scriptwriters enough. Specialised work exists because one
person alone, unless they are an exception, cannot be equally as
good at several, different tasks. It is for this reason that from
now on I will try to dedicate myself solely to directing which I
like much more than writing anyway.Another thing that I have
learned is that not only do cinema and television not speak the
same language, they do not even have the same grammatical root.
What is even worse is that until I creatively faced up to this
fact, I wasnt aware how true it actually was. My professional
experience is based on years of work for the world of television,
but in this story it was fundamental to know how to control the
time, and only that gives you everything which television lacks.I
am telling you all of this because writing the script and dealing
with the visual challenge, has made me feel proud of having known
how to sacrifce, from an initial story of almost twenty minutes, a
flm of approximately three minutes in length, even adulterating the
original script with the aim of favouring the story. Believe me it
is very diffcult.Lastly, I want to thank all of the team who have
worked on this short flm for their involvement, especially to the
flm crew as well as the team from Machango Studio and Juan Carlos
Cruz for the hard work in post-production that this flm has
involved. I believe that this collective effort is evident in the
fnished short flm and I hope that the Public enjoys the fnal

Chedey ReyesDirector and scriptwriterChedey Reyes Rodrguez (Las
Palmas Gran Canaria, 1976) is a Graduate in Business Studies from
the University of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, he holds a Masters
degree in Multimedia Design and Animation from the TAI, Madrid and
Direction studies from the New York Film Academy. As a director and

racanea sueldos y tarifas de proveedores. Eso signifca que ahora
tenemos que buscar una justifcacin empresarial que explique el
enorme esfuerzo y la inversin que implican un corto. En nuestro
caso era fcil: Machango Studio es relativamente conocido como
estudio de animacin, pero queramos que potenciales clientes y
coproductores cambiasen su percepcin de nosotros y entendieran que
hacemos todo tipo de produccin audiovisual (interactivo, imagen
real, videoclip, motion design...). Por supuesto, todo esto es una
maldita excusa. Nos embarcamos en este proyecto porque Chedey tena
unas ganas locas de hacerlo, una pasin contagiosa y una idea clara
de cmo podamos producirlo. Tanta pasin tena que, por primera vez,
no trabajamos juntos en el guin. El guionista que an vive en m
disfrut viendo cmo Chedey sufra esos bloqueos de escritor de los
que tanto se burlaba antes.La produccin de este corto ha sido un
dolor de muelas de principio a fn. Ha sido un proceso largo,
molesto y costoso, y llegu a pensar que no acabara nunca. Se lo he
hecho saber a todo el mundo a base de reproches, quejas y
exabruptos. Que si ha merecido la pena? He visto crecer el proyecto
de la nada. He visto cmo un enorme nmero de profesionales de enorme
talento contribuan con sus cualidades nicas a hacer cada da mejor
este pequea pelcula. Es la razn por la que me met en este

Chedey, Juan Carlos Cruz and myself became partners, we have
suffered a long and painful development process. We started out as
a creative studio which existed in order to be able to vent our
artistic concerns and we have become a proftable and eff-cient
production company. I was a cool scriptwriter dedicated to his
passion for creation. Now I am an evil producer who scrimps on
salaries and suppliersprice rates. This means that now we have to
look for justifcation as a company which explains the enormous
amount of effort and investment which is involved in making a short
flm. In our case it was easy: Machango Studio is relatively well
known as an Animation studio, but we wanted potential clients and
co-producers to change their perception of us and understand that
we carry out all kinds of audiovisual productions (interactive,
real ima-ges, videoclips, motion design...). Of course, all of this
is just a damned excuse. We embarked on this project because Chedey
was desperate to do it, he felt a passion which was contagious and
he had a clear idea about how to produce it. He was so passionate
about it that, for the frst time, we didnt work together on the
script. The scriptwriter that still lives inside me enjoyed
watching how Chedey suffered the same writers blocks that he had
previously mocked so often.The production of this short flm has
been a headache from start to fnish. It has been a long, annoying
and expensive process and I started to think that it would never
end. I have let everyone know about how I felt on the basis of
reproaches, complaints and outbursts. Was it worth it? I have
watched the project grow from nothing. I have seen how an enormous
number of talented professionals contributed with their unique
quali-ties to make this little flm better every day. It is the

FotografaTeresa Ruano tiene una larga carrera como operadora de
cmara y directora de fotografa. Durante varios aos fue socia de la
productora Palmera, con la que produjo varios programas para
Televisin Canaria. Ha sido la directora de fotografa de los
documentales Galpagos en Canchalageras(Rosa Prez Almeida, 2008), 18
en 16 (Francis Quintana, 2010) y Yakkar En sus manos (Rosa Prez
Almeida, 2010).Una historia de amor segn la Directora de
FotografaCuando Chedey me propuso este proyecto estuve navegando
entre el miedo y la emocin. Era la oportunidad de trabajar juntos
en un proyecto fascinante. Hablamos mucho de cmo debera ser la
imagen del corto, tenamos claro que la localizacin tena que ser una
pieza fundamental, conseguir un espacio que fuera fotografable sin
muchos aadidos y creo que este requisito lo conseguimos.Decidimos
que la luz del corto no sera srdida como se podra esperar de un
lugar abandonado. Excepto en los momentos confictivos como las
peleas y la secuencia de las drogas, la luz debera ser muy natural
y con un ambiente luminoso, porque el mercado abandonado es un
punto de encuentro de jvenes amigos donde se fragua una historia de
amor. No tuvimos ninguna duda a la hora de plantear la mirada de
Pedro hacia Silvia, queramos hacer una mirada dulce y tierna
parecida a la que sucede en 500 days of summer cuando el
protagonista observa a su enamorada. Creo que hemos conseguido que
el corto tenga una buena calidad visual a base de trabajo. Estoy
muy agradecida a Chedey por dejarme formar parte de un corto que es
parte de nuestro universo personal....S, es mi historia de amor...
Normalmente me senta como una simple pieza del decorado, con suerte
como ese personaje secundario que sale de escena y contempla el

long career as a camera operator and director of photography. For
several years she was a member of the Production company Palmera,
with whom she produced various programmes for the Canarian
television channel. She was the Director of Photography for the
documentaries Galapagos in Canchalageras(Rosa Prez Al-meida, 2008),
18 in 16 (Francis Quintana, 2010) and Yakkar En sus manos (In Her
Hands, Rosa Prez Almeida, 2010).A Love Story according to the
Director of PhotographyWhen Chedey proposed this project to me I
found myself going between emotions of fear and excitement. It was
the opportunity to work together on a fascinating project. We
talked a lot about what the overall look of the short flm should be
like and we were sure that the location had to be a fundamental
element, to get a space which was flmable without many additions
and I think we fulflled this requirement.We decided that the light
for the short flm wouldnt be squalid as you would expect from an
deserted place. Except for the moments of confict like the fghts
and the drugs sequence, the light should be very natural and with a
light atmosphere, because the deserted market is a meeting point
for young friends and where a love story is forged. We had no
doubts about how Pedro would look at Silvia, we wanted to make it a
sweet and tender look, similar to what happens in 500 days of
summer when the protagonist observes his loved one. I think we have
succeeded in giving the short flm good visual quality through sheer
hard work. I am very grateful to Chedey for letting me form part of

de ArteLaura Milln recibi el Premio Nacional al Joven Diseador por
su proyecto El Contenedor reversible Medalla de Oro ADI 2007 y ha
recibido otros galardones como dos premios nacionales de
empaquetado Lderpack 2005 (uno de ellos junto a Beln Hermosa).
Varios de los proyectos creados por Laura Milln han sido publicados
en revistas como NDiseo Interior, Casa Viva (Espaa), DDN, Neo2 y
Experimenta. Durante varios aos ha trabajado con la productora
independiente de video Los de Lito Films . Su ltima colaboracin ha
sido en la serie emitida por Televisin Espaola La Repblica de la

Credits Una historia de amor segn la Directora ArtsticaEl proyecto
ha sido un reto interesante, principalmente porque contbamos con
pocos recursos para hacer la direccin de arte, sin embargo, tenamos
una localizacin espectacular: el antiguo Mercado de Frutas y
Verduras de Madrid. Fue toda una aventura recorrer un espacio que
haba tenido tanta vida teniendo la posibilidad de elegir la
ambientacin que necesitbamos para crear un espacio abandonado. Al
fnal llegu a convertirme en una especie de homeless recorriendo el
mercado con mi carrito de atrezzo. En cuanto a los crditos, como
diseadora grfca e industrial que soy, suelo trabajar creando
tipografas a partir de objetos o bien jugando con caligrafa en el
espacio, pero siempre con un mtodo de trabajo casero, dndole
importancia a lo hecho a mano. En un principio tenamos la idea de
integrar los objetos de ambientacin que apareceran en el set con
los crditos, pero optamos por aprovechar toda la localizacin
integrando los textos en los diferentes espacios que nos bamos
encontrando. Al fnal, convertamos los crditos en una especie de
introduccin espacial haciendo una alusin estilstica al grafti que
aparece en el corto. David Pantalen y Gerardo Carreras me ayudaron
a realizarlo y Machango Studio termin de pulir todo el trabajo.

received the National Young Designers award for her project El
Contenedor reversible(The reversible container) Gold Medal ADI 2007
and has received other awards such as two national prizes for
Lderpack 2005 (one of them together with Beln Hermosa). Several of
the projects created by Laura Milln have been published in
magazines such as NDiseo Interior, Casa Viva (Spain), DDN, Neo2 and
Experimenta. For several years she has worked with the independent
video production company Los de Lito Films . Her latest work has
been in collaboration with the series televised by the channel
Televisin Espaola La Repblica (The Republic) by the production
company Diagonal TV.A Love Story according to the Director of
ArtThe project has been an interesting challenge, mainly because we
depended on very few resources for the Art Direction, however, we
had a spectacular setting: the old fruit and vegetable market of
Madrid. It was an adventure to go around a space which had once
been so full of life and to have the possibility of choosing the
setting we needed to create a deserted space. In the end I became a
sort of homeless person going around the market with my props
trolley. As regards the credits, as the graphic and industrial
designer that I am, I usually work creating typography from objects
or rather playing with calligraphy in a space, but always using a
home-made style, placing importance on things being made by hand.
At frst our idea was to integrate the objects from the setting
which appeared on set with the credits, but we opted for making the
most of the location integrating the different texts in the
different spaces as we found them. In the end, we converted the
credits into a type of spatial introduction making an a stylistic
allusion to the graffti which appears in the short flm. David
Pantalen and Gerardo Carreras helped me to carry it out and

SL. All Rights ReservedNotas del compositorPara la msica de Una
Historia de Amor,el proceso fue muy diferente al que suelo seguir
en otras producciones. Chedey y yo estuvimos hablando acerca del
carcter intimista y de lugar abandonado que deba refejar la msica y
convenimos que el timbre desnudo del piano podra ser muy apropiado.
Decid adems no seguir un click metronmico como normalmente hago,
sino que me dej llevar por la voz en off del narrador para
secuenciar la parte del piano. La ausencia de click (necesario para
la mayora de los proyectos) impona muchas limitaciones, pero dotaba
a la msica del carcter atemporal deseado. Una vez grabadas las
ideas, me dediqu a ajustarlas y arreglarlas para que sonasen
naturales no slo con el off sino tambin con el montaje. Se trataba
de que la msica acariciase las imgenes y las palabras pero sin
llegar a tocarlas, y que aunque el espectador no fuese
necesariamente consciente de su presencia y no luciese
especialmente, se convirtiera en un componente ms de la atmsfera

etc.), videoarte, sintonas (Magacine 2002-2003 de Canal Plus), y
para ms de una treintena de anuncios de TV (CocaCola, Peugeot,
Kellogs, Volkswagen, McDonalds, Mahou, etc). Ha dirigido obras
propias para la Nouvelle Cuisine Big Band (Austria: Viena) y

YerroComposerGonzalo Daz Yerro has composed music for the
full-length flm Nevando voy, various short flms (El canto del
grillo, Peliculeros, Lafora, Hienas, Clara. El mar, etc.),
documentaries (18 in 16, Orcajo: la belleza y la destruccin, Riba
Ribi Grize Rep ~ A Fish Bites A Fishs Tail, etc.), videoart, theme
tunes (Magacine 2002-2003 for Canal Plus), and for over 30 TV
advertisements (CocaCola, Peugeot, Kelloggs, Volkswagen, McDonalds,
Mahou, etc). He has directed his own work for the Nouvelle Cuisine
Big Band (Austria: Vienna) and co-founded the Atlantic Art Ensemble
(Spain: Canary Islands) for whom he is the musical director,
keyboard player and resident composer. Since 2007 he has been
teaching Musical Composition for Audiovisual Media in the Canaries
Superior Music Conservatory.Notes by the composerFor the music for
A Love Story, the process was very different to what I usually do
for other productions. Chedey and I talked about the intmate
character and the deserted place which should be refected in the
music and we agreed that the bare tone of the piano could be very
appropriate.What is more, I decided not to follow the click of the
metronome as I normally do, but I let myself get carried away with
the narrators voice in off to sequence the piano part. The absence
of the click (necessary for the majority of projects) imposed many
limitations, but gave the music the desired timeless effect. Once
the ideas were recorded, I set about adjusting them and fxing them
so that they sounded natural not only in off but also with the
montage. It was about making the music caress the images and words
without actually touching them, so that even though the spectator
wasnt necessarily aware of its presence and it didnt stand out
especially, it would be transformed into another component of the
visual and narrative atmosphere.Composer...A veces me hubiese
gustado interpretar otro papel, pero era imposible. La inseguridad
y el miedo son esa cuarta pared que nos obliga a ser espectadores

las inquietudes creativas del realizador Chedey Reyes, el guionista
Pedro Carballido y el animador Juan Carlos Cruz. Reyes y Carballido
llevaban aos trabajando juntos en programas de televisin y haban
desarrollado juntos la serie de animacin Cool City. Por su parte,
Cruz vena de una larga colaboracin con Damin Perea Producciones,
donde haba trabajado en diver-sos proyectos de animacin. Juntos, se
propusieron desarrollar proyectos de creacin propia y ofrecer
servicios creativos de calidad.Desde entonces, el trabajo de
Machango Studio ha sido reconocido en el Canarias Mediafest, el
Cartoon Forum, el Festivalito, Canarias Rueda, el Festival
Internacional de cortos de Donetsk, Ucrania y el Festival de
Animacin de Bucarest (Animest). Especialmente conocido por sus
trabajos de animacin y post-produccin, Machango Studio ha producido
tambin publicidad (tanto de animacin como en imagen real),
cabeceras, cortometrajes y videos musicales. Tambin ha prestado
servicios de diseo de personajes y de consultora de guin y
realizacin y ha sido una empresa especialmente activa en el campo
de la formacin, habiendo impartido cursos para los cabildos de Gran
Canaria, Lanzarote y Fuerte-ventura, as como la Universidad de Las
Palmas de Gran Canaria y la Fundacin Universitaria.Aparte de este
cortometraje, Machango Studio trabaja en tres proyectos de
enver-gadura: produce la serie de animacin Jons
(www.jonaseries.com), la primera serie de animacin ntegramente
producida en las Islas Canarias; trabaja en el desarrollo del
largometraje cinematogrfco Longina, adaptacin del musical teatral
de Produc-ciones del Mar, ambientado en La Habana en los aos 50; y
ha publicado las primeras muestras de su proyecto multimedia
Polillas Acrobticas, una microserie que es tam-bin un proyecto

Studio was born in 2007 from merging together the creative concerns
of the producer Chedey Reyes, the scriptwriter Pedro Carballido and
the cartoonist Juan Carlos Cruz. Reyes and Carballido have been
working together on television programmes for years and they
jointly developed the animated series Cool City. As for Cruz, he
came from working extensively in collaboration with Damin Perea
Pro-ductions, where he worked on various animation projects.
Together, they proposed developing projects of their own creation
and offering quality creative services.From then on, the work of
Machango Studio has been recognised in the Canaries Me-diafest, the
Cartoon Forum, the Festivalito, Canarias Rueda, the Donetsk
International Short Films Festival, the Ucraine and the Bucharest
Animation Festival (Animest). It is especially known for its
animation work and post-production, Machango Studio has also
