  • Match backgroundChelsea will be looking to finish their successful Group E campaign on a high as they welcome Krasnodar to London.

    • Both sides' finishing positions in the section were confirmed on Matchday 5. While Olivier Giroud was scoring allChelsea's goals in a 4-0 win at Sevilla that confirmed the English side in first place and their Spanish opponents insecond, Marcus Berg's second-half strike in Russia enabled Krasnodar to see off fellow group stage debutantsRennes to make sure of third position.

    • Chelsea were 4-0 winners in Russia on Matchday 2, Callum Hudson-Odoi's 37th-minute opener added to in theclosing stages by Timo Werner (76 pen), Hakim Ziyech (79) with his first goal for the club and Christian Pulišić (90).

    Form guideChelsea• Held 0-0 at home by Sevilla on Matchday 1, the London club followed up their win at Krasnodar by beating Renneshome (3-0) and away (2-1) to secure progress. They made sure of first place in emphatic style, Giroud becoming thefirst Chelsea player to score four times in a European Cup match – and at 34 years 63 days the oldest hat-trick scorerin UEFA Champions League history – with a four-goal haul at Sevilla.

    • Chelsea have won four successive UEFA Champions League matches for the fourth time. Only once before havethey made it five wins in a row – in the 2010/11 group stage.

    • Fourth in the Premier League in 2019/20, this is Chelsea's 17th venture into the UEFA Champions League groupstage and a third in four years. The exception came in 2018/19, when they won the UEFA Europa League underMaurizio Sarri.

    • Chelsea's last four UEFA Champions League campaigns have all ended in the round of 16. In 2019/20 they wereheavily beaten home (0-3) and away (1-4) by eventual champions Bayern München at that stage. The loss in Munichis the London club's only defeat in 14 European away matches (W10 D3).

    • Last season Frank Lampard's side recovered from a Matchday 1 defeat at home to Valencia (0-1) to progress asGroup H runners-up with 11 points, finishing behind the Spanish side on head-to-head record.

    • Despite their four victories this season, the Blues have won only five of their last ten UEFA Champions Leaguematches (D3 L2).

    • Chelsea have won only two of their last seven European matches at Stamford Bridge (D3 L2).

    • European champions in 2012 having been runners-up four years earlier, Chelsea have now reached the round of 16on 15 occasions.

    • The London side have now won their UEFA Champions League group 12 times, although they were runners-up intheir section on each of their previous two participations before this season.

    • Chelsea have won six of their seven games against Russian clubs, the exception a 3-2 loss at Rubin in the 2012/13UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg – a tie they won 5-4 on aggregate en route to lifting the trophy.

    • The Blues were 3-1 winners at home to Rubin in that tie, making it nine goals scored and two conceded in their threegames against Russian clubs at Stamford Bridge.

    • Overall Chelsea have scored 18 goals in their seven games against Russian sides, conceding only five.

    Krasnodar• Having marked their UEFA Champions League group stage debut with a first point in the competition thanks to a 1-1draw at Rennes, Krasnodar followed the home defeat by Chelsea by going down 3-2 at Sevilla, in a game they led 2-0, and 2-1 at home against the Spanish side. They got their first group win at the fifth attempt, Berg scoring the onlygoal at home to Rennes on Matchday 5.

    • Krasnodar are the seventh Russian club to compete in the UEFA Champions League group stage, and the firstnewcomers from the country since Rostov in 2016/17.

    • This is only Krasnodar's seventh season in UEFA competition – they have featured every year since making theirdebut in the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League. In 2019/20, they were eliminated by Olympiacos in the UEFA ChampionsLeague play-offs and went on to finish third in their UEFA Europa League section behind Basel and Getafe, picking upnine points from their six matches (W3 L3).

    • Third in the Russian Premier League for the second season in a row in 2019/20, Krasnodar had only played fourEuropean Cup matches before 2020/21. The first ended in a 1-0 home defeat by Porto in the 2019/20 third qualifyinground first leg, only for them to then turn round the tie with a remarkable 3-2 victory in Portugal in which they led 3-0 athalf-time. However, Olympiacos proved too strong for Murad Musaev's team in the play-offs, winning 4-0 in Greece

    • Krasnodar had no such problems in this season's play-off, winning both legs of their tie against Greek club PAOK 2-1 with Rémy Cabella scoring the winner in each game.

    • The Russian club have won two of their last five European away games (D1 L2).

    • Krasnodar's only games against English clubs before this season came against Everton in the 2014/15 UEFAEuropa League group stage, a 1-1 home draw – Ari scoring their goal – preceding a 1-0 away victory on Matchday 6that was their only win in the section.

    Latest newsChelsea• Olivier Giroud became the 17th player to score four or more goals in a UEFA Champions League game on Matchday5.

    • Chelsea are unbeaten in 16 games in all competitions (W10 D6); they have won eight of their last nine matches, theexception a goalless draw at home to Tottenham on 29 November. They were 3-1 winners against Leeds at StamfordBridge on Saturday, Giroud again finding the net to make it six goals in his last four Chelsea appearances.

    • The London club scored 25 goals in those eight victories, conceding only three.

    • Chelsea have won 11 of their 18 fixtures in all competitions this season, losing only one – 2-0 at home to championsLiverpool in the Premier League on 20 September.

    • Callum Hudson-Odoi was on target against both Andorra (3-1) and Albania (5-0) in qualifying for the 2021 UEFAEuropean Under-21 Championship.

    • Billy Gilmour, who had been sidelined by a knee injury since 9 July, returned as a substitute in Scotland's 2-2 drawat home to Croatia in 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying on 12 November, although he wassent off eight minutes after his introduction.

    Krasnodar• Eleven Krasnodar players made their debuts in the UEFA Champions League, group stage to final, on Matchday 1,including 34-year-old striker Marcus Berg.

    • Krasnodar have picked up 24 points from their first 17 league games of 2020/21, nine fewer than at the same stageof last season. They have suffered four defeats in their last six Premier League matches.

    • In 2017/18, Paris Saint-Germain set a new group stage record by scoring 25 goals, one more than Bayern Münchenmanaged in 2019/20. Liverpool are next on the list having scored 23 in 2017/18 with Borussia Dortmund hitting 21 in2016/17. Manchester United (1998/99), Barcelona (2011/12, 2016/17) and Real Madrid (2013/14) all managed 20.

    • Only Deportivo La Coruña (2004/05), Maccabi Haifa (2009/10) and Dinamo Zagreb (2016/17) have failed to score ina group stage.

    • BATE Borisov conceded 24 goals in 2014/15, a new group stage record which was matched by Legia Warszawa in2016/17. The previous mark, 22, was held by Dinamo Zagreb (2011/12) and Nordsjælland (2012/13).

    • No team has ever gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without conceding a goal. Milan (1992/93),Ajax (1995/96), Juventus (1996/97 and 2004/05), Chelsea (2005/06), Liverpool (2005/06), Villarreal (2005/06),Manchester United (2010/11), Monaco (2014/15), Paris Saint-Germain (2015/16) and Barcelona (2017/18) all let injust one.

    • Matchday 6 of 2013/14 marked FCSB's 23rd successive game in the competition without a victory, surpassing theprevious record of 22 set by Spartak Moskva between December 2000 and November 2006.

    • Anderlecht hold the unwanted record for successive defeats in the competition, group stage to final, having lost 12 ina row between December 2003 and November 2005. Dinamo Zagreb are next with 11 consecutive losses on twooccasions, from September 2011 to November 2012 and September 2015 to December 2016.

    • The lowest total for a team qualifying from the group stage is six points: Zenit in 2013/14 and Roma in 2015/16.Since three points for a win was introduced in 1995/96, ten teams have made it through with seven points: LegiaWarszawa (1995/96), Dynamo Kyiv (1999/2000), Liverpool (2001/02, second group stage), in 2002/03 LokomotivMoskva (first group stage) and eventual finalists Juventus (second group stage), Rangers and Werder Bremen(2005/06), Galatasaray (2013/14), Basel (2014/15) and Atalanta (2019/20).

    • Napoli failed to qualify from their group with 12 points in 2013/14, the highest total of any team not to reach the nextstage when the top two in each section progressed. Dynamo Kyiv (1999/2000, second group stage), Borussia

    Goalscoring records• Lionel Messi became the first player to score five goals in a match in Barcelona's 7-1 win against Bayer Leverkusenon 7 March 2012, a feat matched by Shakhtar Donetsk's Luiz Adriano at BATE Borisov on 21 October 2014. Thirteenmore players, also including Messi, have scored four times in a game, most recently Josip Iličić for Atalanta in the2019/20 round of 16 second leg against Valencia. He was the third player to score four in a game that season, allaway from home, after group stage quadruples from Bayern's Serge Gnabry (Matchday 2 at Tottenham) and RobertLewandowski (Matchday 5 at Crvena zvezda).

    • Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record for a UEFA Champions League group stage with 11 goals in 2015/16, LionelMessi got ten goals in 2016/17, a figure matched by Robert Lewandowski in 2019/20; Ronaldo (2013/14, 2017/18)and Luiz Adriano (2014/15) scored nine while Zlatan Ibrahimović (2013/14), Ruud van Nistelrooy (2004/05), FilippoInzaghi, Hernán Crespo (both 2002/03), Lewandowski (2018/19) and Erling Braut Haaland (2019/20) all managedeight.

    • Messi's hat-trick against PSV Eindhoven on Matchday 1 of the 2018/19 competition was his eighth in thecompetition, a mark Ronaldo matched against Atlético de Madrid in that season's round of 16 second leg.

    Oldest and youngest players• Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta is the oldest player to compete in the UEFA Champions League having featuredagainst Real Madrid on Matchday 6 in 2007/08 aged 43 years and 252 days. Alessandro Costacurta is the oldestoutfield player; the Milan defender was 40 years and 211 days when he played against AEK Athens in 2006/07.

    • Francesco Totti is the oldest player to score in the competition, aged 38 years and 59 days, in Roma's 1-1 draw atCSKA Moskva on 25 November 2014. Ryan Giggs (37 years 290 days) was the previous record holder.

    • Celestine Babayaro is the youngest player to have appeared; he was 16 years and 87 days when he started forAnderlecht against Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994. He was sent off in the 37th minute.

    • Ansu Fati's winner for Barcelona at Inter on Matchday 6 in 2019/20 made him the youngest goalscorer in UEFAChampions League history, at the age of 17 years 40 days. He eclipsed the previous record of Olympiacos's PeterOfori-Quaye (17 years 195 days) that had lasted since 1 October 1997.
