Kindergarten/Preschool Jazz/Ballet Combo Lesson Plan Warm Up: Before we dance it is important to warm up our muscles! Some ideas include; Jumping Rope Hopping Running in Place Jumping Jacks Marching around the Room Stretching: Stretching is a great way to help improve our dancing! Some ideas include; Rolling out our head and neck Swing arms side to side Standing up, feet together reaching for your toes Standing up, feet apart reaching down to the middle Reaching side to side Butterfly stretch Sitting down legs together out in front reaching for your toes Straddle reaching to both sides and in the middle Laying on your stomach lifting arms into mermaid stretch Chassé: Chassé are a great thing to practice at home! The meaning of Chassé is to chase. In a Chassé we slide our feet open then jump and kiss our toes together in the air. Help your dance practice chassé back and forth across the room with their hands on their hips (so they can focus on correct footwork) also pointing their toes in the air and not slouching over! Pointing and Flexing Feet: Help your dancer strengthen the muscles in their feet by sitting on the floor legs straight out in front and slowly pointing and flexing their toes, working though every part of their foot! Demi Plié & Tendú: Plié means to bend, and Tendú is taught as the action of stretching your leg and foot out from one position to another, while keeping it on the floor. Help your dancer stand in first position hands on hips, and do 8 pliés bending and straightening the knees. Then still standing in 1st position practice 8 Tendús on each

leg to the sides. Once you have reviewed both exercises you could play freeze dance and when they music freezes they get to show you 4 pliés or tendús!

✴ Leaps: Leaps are another great exercise to practice at home! Have your dancer keep their hands on their hips while they run and jump off one leg to land on the other! Help your dancer keep both legs straight in the air with pointed toes! You could lay out a scarf or any small household item to help them visualize what they are leaping over!

✴ Ballet Walks: Have your dancer practice walking around the room on their toes with their arms up in 5th high (Rounded above their head) This is a great exercise to help them with their balance and learning the correct foot placement to get ready for ballet runs. To make it more fun they can balance a bean bag or any small household item on their head to help keep their posture up straight!
