The attorneys atBingham also act as my mentors, providing me with information that I can leverage should Ichose to follow the path of law in the future. Bingham has helped me visualize how myeducation at UCSB is actively preparing me for professional work, and has demystified myfears of post-university life. Through my internship with Bingham McCutchen, I feel that I ampreparing for my future career through the experience and connections I have gained. This was a unique opportunity rarelygranted to tourists and a chance to learnabout the struggles facing indigenouspopulations as they try to preserve theirculture and way of life in an everchangingworld.

The UCEAP Madrid Study Center recentlyorganized a trip to the Basque Country inNorthern Spain, a combined excursion forboth Compultense University and CarlosIII University students.

The students enjoyed visiting the classicBasque towns of Bilbao, San Sebastian andBurgos, including a trip to the worldrenowned Guggenheim Museum and Playade la Concha.

An Evening of Scottish Cuisine UC Merced Anthropology major, AlanaEldrige, is currently studying at theUniversity of Glasgow and shares herexperience using cooking as way to destress during the exam period:

"Spring break is over and examperiod/final report due dates are finallyupon us, which means students holed up inlibraries and class notes strewn over coffeeshop and tearoom tables. In the mix of allthis final revision, UCEAP took students on a cultural culinary journey through the Scottishfood scene via a cooking session at the Edinburgh New Town Cookery School.

We chopped, mixed, and stirred our way to creating three distinct savoury Scottishdelicacies: Cheese Scones, Smoked Salmon Pate, and Forfar Bridies. Dressed in our stripedaprons, with the warmth of the ovens and smells that filled the kitchen we were soonimmersed in Scottish culture as our chefs, with their distinctly Scottish accents, guided usthough the process of creating delicious Scottish dishes. Food, being such a fundamentalpart of human existence, is often an overlooked catalyst for the evolution of civilizations aswell as being a distinct marker regarding cultural identity. This cooking session not onlyallowed us to take a break from studying as we relaxed and cooked some great food, it alsoallowed us to discover and enjoy the richness of Scottish culture. All thanks to UCEAP, Iwill be enjoying the rewards of this delicious and relaxing experience for days to come dueto the particularly large portions of Scottish food we took home afterwards!"
