Breakdown includes

- Chartered Members: 292

- Grad Members: 746

- Affiliate Members: 348

Background

UAE Branch Demographic

• 30 - 39 age band: 745 members

• 40 – 49 age band: 564 members

• 72% of the total branch membership fall into these two age demographic

groups

• Benchmarked against the IOSH networks in these two demographic groups

age this is encouraging

• The UAE branch also has a high number of CMIOSH members spread

across many different sectors.

Why become a Chartered member?

How you can benefit by becoming a Chartered member:

- Gain credibility within your organisation

- Improve your ability to influence decision-makers

- Work on an equal footing with other professionals

- Increase your future employability

IOSH is the Chartered body of health and safety professionals

What is IPD?

IPD is an assessment process that Graduate members need to go

through in order to become a Chartered member.

The aim is for you to demonstrate:

- your competence

- your knowledge

- your skills

- your experience

There are two IPD assessment processes:

- Electronic Skills Development portfolio – Practical assessment process

- Electronic Open Assessment exam – Theory-based assessment process

Three main routes to Chartered status

CPD audit

Once you have successfully completed your IPD

assessment process, we will carry out a CPD audit on

your online record.

The CPD audit is to verify that you have been

updating and maintaining your knowledge and skills

as a health and safety professional.

Please ensure the following:

- development plan is being reviewed and updated

every 6–12 months

- activities are added on a regular basis – at least 6

activities a year

- each activity added has clear reflective statements

IPD processFinal stages to becoming a Chartered member

Once you have completed the IPD process and passed the CPD audit you

will be invited to complete the Peer Review Interview

- Final part of the IPD assessment process

- Scheduled at various locations

- Video conference option for non-UK members (until now)

- PowerPoint presentation – 10 minutes

IPD processPreparation for the Peer Review Interview

- Provide presentation and record of employment

- Familiarise yourself with your IPD assessment

- Ensure you know the four keys areas of the IOSH Code of conduct

- Be aware of the importance of your CPD

- Remember this is your interview: “I”, not “we”

- Core questions are not available before the interview

- No notes are permitted during the interview

IPD processThe Peer Review Interview

- Interviewed by a panel of CMIOSH/CFIOSH

volunteers

- Interview lasts 45–60 minutes

- Outcome within 21 days

- If successful, transferred to CMIOSH

- If unsuccessful, feedback provided and re-

interview required

• New Members in the last 12 months: 438

109 members from the UAE Branch have achieved CMIOSH status over the past 2 ½ years:

• The Members Professional Development Workshops and events led by

Emmanuel over the past 2 years has been a major contributory factor

• This remains a key focus area along with the new student membership

proposition
