October 29,2021 Introducing the PTA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee Halloween Update PTA Fall General Meeting We're Funding a Telescope! The Tuckahoe PTA recently sent a letter to Tuckahoe Village leadership voicing our strong opposition to the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA). We urge Tuckahoe to opt out of the MRTA, which would permit marijuana dispensaries and on- site consumption locations in our Village. It is clearly not in the best interest of our community and most importantly of our children. Our opinions are a reflection of the New York State PTA’s position on the MRTA, and it is also in line with the sentiments of Dr. Amy Goodman and the Tuckahoe Board of Education. Marijuana is considered a "gateway drug" and we feel it has no place in our community. It is also important to note that the American Academy of Pediatrics has reaffirmed its opposition to legalizing recreational marijuana. For these reasons and others, we strongly encourage Mayor Andino and the Village Board of Trustees to join Bronxville, Eastchester and many other communities in opting out of MRTA. We are proud to introduce PTA's newly created “Diversity, Equity andInclusion Committee.” Our vision for the committee includesidentifying ways in which we can support the District’s Equity Team andits goals; helping advocate for policies, activities, and accommodationsthat support students and families, planning and coordinating programsand communications designed to celebrate diversity and promoteinclusion; and increasing PTA membership and engagement inunderrepresented groups.

Most recently, our Committee advocated for expanding therepresentation of authors of color in the PTA sponsored book fair. Weshared an expansive list of titles that have diverse protagonists, themesand experiences. Our goal of getting even more culturally responsivebooks into our children's hands is becoming a reality.

The Tuckahoe PTA Cottle Committeeis excited to welcome all Cottle Cubsto this year's Pumpkin Parade onMonday, November 1 (The kids willnot have school on Tuesday). Enjoymusic, magic, a maze and much more!

We ask that families please arrive ontime and respect your time slot so thateveryone can safely enjoy thefestivities.
