• On May 1, 1960, a U-2 spy plane was brought down near Svedlovsk, Soviet Union.

• The plane was piloted by Francis Gary Powers.

• This event left a forever lasting negative impact on the U.S. and U.S.S.R. relationship.

• The U-2 plane was nicknamed the “Black Lady.”• It was constructed to be indestructible by

conventional weapons.• One benefit of the plane is its ability to stay

above enemy fire.• Many people question if Powers was flying at the

proper height.• If the plane would have been flying at the proper

height then it is likely that the plane would not have been brought down.
