WAY OF MAKING BRICK In brick work there was plenty ties brick arrangement.

Major bonds in brick work was :

*side bond brick,

*brick head bond,

*English bond,

*Flemish bond and Dutch bond. Other bond or brick :

* Stretcher Bond (ikatan sisi bata)

- This bond used as filling (infill) structure framework for wall thick half bricks (1 / 2 bricks = 113mm).Bond arranged by continue every brick in the head. The construction starting with side a layer brick and alternating with stick was among 1 / 4 bricks to 1 / 2 bricks.

* Header Bond (ikatan kepala bata)

- Every this bond inner layer contain brick head only make bond one bricks. Suitable to be used in basic constructs or in round in shape or curved wall such as threshold.

* English Bond (ikatan inggeris)

- This bond interspersed in every strata with side bond brick in a layer and brick head bond in layer next, make bond one bricks. A 1 / 2 bricks cover positioned next to corner brick head in every brick head layer. Brick cover was to prevent vertical extension that continuously and give stick 1 / minimum 4 bricks that uniform. This bond could be regarded strong ties between bonds that is major.

* Ikatan Flemish (Flemish Bond)

- This bond contain side bond brick and brick head that arranged alternate in a layer and every strata. A 1 / 2 bricks cover also positioned next to corner brick head in each interval layer.

- When two-sided wall barrier show Flemish arrangement, it alleged 'Flemish Kembar'. If side Flemish bond and beside it inggeris bond, it named 'Flemish Tunggal'. This bond cause vertical continuously extension beside in and weak, but it produce both sides of face wall barrier that is smoother and suitable for ornament wall and not di'lepa'.

* Ikatan Dutch

- This bond is a bond change from inggeris bond. It contain brick head layer and side layer brick alternating with each the layer starting with brick cut 3 / 4. No 1 / 2 bricks cover used in this bond.

* Ikatan Bata Silverlock

-This bond is addition from inggeris bond. Contain brick head layer and side layer brick alternate by escort. Brick head layer starting with 2 bricks three quarters while side layer brick starting with 3 bricks escort in both ends wall that is straight.

* Ikatan Monk

- This bond is imitation from Flemish bond. Every strata containing one brick head followed with side two ties brick alternate.

* Ikatan Bata Perangkap Tikus

- In this bond, all bricks arranged like flemish bond but by escort. Hole that there was between two sides brick emptied except filled compact in corner, make it suitable as beronga wall which received burden.

* ikatan raking

- This bond are used at thick wall or to build panel, floor and so on. Built by arrange side brick in side two-sided wall and fill in him with brick that is patterned tulang belut stitches, corner, basket work or angle.

SIZE OF BRICK There is a rough arithmetical relationship of length

to width of 2:1 and length to height of 3:1 in the standard or Imperial brick

The standard size is 222mm long x 106mm wide x 73mm high.

Other sizes include:

length width Height

HOW TO CUTBRICK ? Brick can be used to make a walkway or support a

structure. Its durability and other practical benefits have helped maintain its use in construction.

Here are some ways to cut brick :

step 1 : Use a pencil and a triangular layout square to draw a line on each side of the brick at the place it will be cut.

step 2 : Rest the brick on the ground or in a sand bed. Place a chisel on the brick's marked line at about a 60 degree angle. Tap the chisel gently with a brick hammer.

step 3 : Hammer the chisel gently all along the marked line, alternating the chisel's angle from side to side to form a groove 1/16 inch (0.15 cm) deep all the way around the brick.

step 4 : Take a brick set or chisel and place its cutting edge in the chiseled groove. The brick set or chisel's straight side should be facing you and the side of the brick that will be used after cutting. Tilt the cutting tool's edge slightly away from the portion of brick to be discarded.

step 5 : Hammer the brick set solidly once with the brick hammer. The brick should split along the chiseled groove line.

step 6 : Use the chisel end of the brick hammer to chip off any excess remaining brick.
