TXF Asia 2015’s first case study explores financing in a sector that will only continue to grow: renewable energy. The largest wind farm in the Philippines to date, the 150 MW Burgos Wind Farm project was trailblazing. The resultant wind farm provides 370 GWh of electricity to power millions of local households and displace around 200,000 tons of carbon emissions annually – and due to a particular offtake stipulation of the Philippine government, the project and its related financing was put together at break-neck speed.

The first Sinosure project financing in Sub-Saharan Africa enabled Maamba Colleries Limited (MCL) to complete the construction of two 150 MW coalfired power plants on the site of an existing coal mine in Maamba, Zambia – together with a new transmission line to connect to the national grid. The Barclays-led debt was raised via a $365 million ECA-backed tranche supported by Sinosure and there was also a $150 million DFI tranche.

Deal or No Deal?An engaging way to wrap up two days of discussions, this pricing session sees industry experts go through a series hypothetical deal proposals and debate: 1) Whether they would do each deal; 2) How they would price each deal. In the process, the panel explores the key drivers behind signing deals and what needs to be done to get them done. The audience will also have the opportunity to get involved – by voting on how much they would rate each of the deals out of 10 before the panel gives its final verdict.
