There are two Jerusalems in scripture. There is earthly Jerusalem and there is heavenly

Jerusalem. A believer must discern between the two in reading the prophets.

Failure to do so will result in applying prophecies that are fulfilled in heavenly Jerusalem to

earthly Jerusalem. Sometimes it is difficult to determine the difference between the earthly and

    the heavenly within a prophecy.

The way to determine what prophecies are fulfilled in the heavenly Jerusalem is to see the

apostolic interpretation. For example John sees Jerusalem descending from God out ofheaven.

    Revelation 21

1.And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed

away; and there was no more sea.

2.And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared

as a bride adorned for her husband.

Isa.65:17, For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be

    remembered, nor come into mind.

18.But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a

rejoicing, and her people a joy.

19.And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no

more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.

The letter to the Hebrews contrasts these two Jerusalems.

    Hebrews 13:14

For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

The Hebrew believers were seeking a city that was coming. They had come to the city, the

heavenly Jerusalem, but it had not arrived completely. They had no continuing, earthly city.

The earthly Jerusalem would no continue as the covenant city .

    Hebrews 12:22

But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem,

and to an innumerable company of angels.

John sees the arrival of the heavenly Jerusalem after the destruction of the earthly Jerusalem

    (Babylon).

    Revelation 21

    1. And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed

away; and there was no more sea.

    2. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared

as a bride adorned for her husband.

The arrival of the heavenly Jerusalem meant the kingdom had arrived, and the new covenant

had been fully established. We are now connected to the heavenly city.

The living water flows from the heavenly city and brings healing to the nations.

This was also the city that the prophets spoke of when speaking of the kingdom.
