The Minnesota Twins and the Twins Community Fund supported a variety of causes in the Upper Midwest and South Florida during 2009. This support came in the form of cash grants, community program subsidies and Twins tickets and memorabilia donations. Highlights of the Twins 2009 community giving include: Twins Community Fund The Fields for Kids program granted $300,000 to build and renovate 53 Upper Midwest ballfields. Since 1999, 425 Upper Midwest, Southwest Florida and Latin American ballfields have been renovated. The Twins Play Ball! Minnesota Youth Clinic program visited 35 Upper Midwest and nine Southwest Florida communities providing free baseball and softball instruction to more than 7,000 young people. Grants totaling $120,000 were made to the Minneapolis and St. Paul Park and Recreation departments to operate Twins Rookie League and R.B.I. inner-city youth baseball and softball leagues. More than 6,000 kids participated in Twins Rookie League and R.B.I. programs in 2009. New in 2009 were grants totaling $20,000 to establish RBI teams in new and diverse areas of St. Paul and Minneapolis through the RBI Expansion Program. The Twins donated $13,000 to support regional tournaments for seven youth baseball and softball organizations. The Twins also granted $20,000 to twenty traveling youth baseball and softball teams to assist with operating expenses. The Twins Wives Organization directed $50,000 in grants to various organizations including the Southside Life Care Center, Sharing and Caring Hands, the Salvation Army, People Serving People, Camp Erin, the Minnesota Military Family Foundation, Gillette Children’s Hospital, the Epilepsy Foundation, the Drew Gilbert Medical Fund, Cystic Fibrosis – Minnesota Chapter, the Courage Center, and Cheerful Givers. Through the Diamonds and Dreams Academic Scholar- ship Program, 20 Upper Midwest high school seniors each received $2,000 in scholarship support for post secondary education. The Minnesota Twins will kick off their 50th season of base-ball in Minnesota with the Twins Community Fund’s largest fundraiser, TwinsFest 2010, on Friday Jan. 29 to Sunday Jan. 31 at the Metrodome. Admission to TwinsFest is just $8 for adults and $4 for children 14 and younger, prior to Jan.28, 2010.

More than 40 former, current, and future Twins players will appear during the event. TwinsFest 2010 will feature players autograph and photo sessions, live and silent sports memorabilia auctions, and free youth baseball and softball clinics. Fans will also have the opportunity to audition to sing the National Anthem prior to a 2010 Twins game, partici-pate in interactive games, check out an exhibit from the Baseball Hall of Fame, and view an exhibit by Twins curator Clyde Doepner titled "New Beginnings: 1961 Metropolitan Stadium. . .1982 H.H.H. Metrodome. . .2010 Target Field.”

More than 40 current and former Twins players and their wives helped raise more than $1 million via fundraising events for Upper Midwest and Southwest Florida charities. These events included Michael Cuddyer’s Celebrity Waiter Dinner benefitting the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities, Justin Morneau’s Casino Night benefitting Juvenile Arthri-tis, Joe Mauer’s Golf Classic benefiting Friends of St. Paul Baseball and Kent Hrbek’s Bass Fishing Classic benefitting the ALS Association.

The 50th Annual Twins Winter Caravan starts January 18th. The Minnesota Twins Winter Caravan will visit more than 40 Upper Midwest communities between January 18th and January 28th.

The Twins Winter Caravan will once again feature current and former players. They will be visiting locations including schools, hospitals, service organizations and Upper Midwest companies, with a traditional program planned for each event. The Winter Caravan will be sponsored by Fox Sports

North, KSTP Radio and Treasure Island Baseball Network.

Members of the Twins radio/television broadcast team, including John Gordon, Dan Gladden, Dick Bremer, and Bert Blyleven, will lead each leg of Winter Caravan.

2010 Twins Winter Caravan Traveling the Midwest

The Twins Winter Caravan is coming in January to a town near you!

The sixth annual Play Ball! Minnesota Youth Baseball and Softball Conference will be held on Saturday, April 24, at Target Field.

The event will celebrate the beginning of the 2010 baseball and softball season by bringing together youth

coaches, administrators and volunteers to discuss

topics and issues related to the game and learn from the many conference breakout sessions.

Many of the conference breakout sessions will be led by Twins alumni and will address various areas of coaching and skill development. Play Ball! Minnesota members and Twins front office personnel also will participate in the administration sessions.

Apply to Host a 2010 Upper Midwest Youth Clinic

Celebrating 50 years of the Twins Clinic Program, the Twins Community Fund will host free youth clinics in 50 Upper Midwest communities in 2010.

The 2010 clinic schedule will be announced in April.
