From the Pastor’s Desk: Reflection: Matthew 22,15-21 We are all familiar with today’s gospel passage in which Jesus takes the coin and to those who are trying to catch him in speech, makes the well-known re- sponse: Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God. If Jesus had said that one should not pay the Roman tax, then the Leaders of the people could go to the Roman governor and accuse Jesus of treason. If he say people should pay the tax, then they could go and tell the people he was not a true Israelite since he said people should pay the tax to the hated Roman conquerors. The Book of Genesis says that God created all things. God did not separate creation, saying “this is for me, but this is for someone else” Everything was created by God and belongs to him. When Jesus says to give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God, he hopes the people understand the truth that everything belongs to God, even Caesar’s part. What we use to render to Caesar first comes to us from God as his gift to us. A job, employment, a family and the things we can pur- chase and obtain through the wages we earn-these are all from God, who gives us all good things. We are called, knowing that all things belong to God, to treat everything with the love, respect and dignity he gave them when he created all things. Above all, we have the important duty to apply this approach to the high point of God’s creation: People. Thank you Note: A very special thanks to the Festival Committee, the volunteers and everyone who helped in our Annual Parish Festival. The help of several people and several hours of preparation is needed for an event this big. Your time, participation and contributions are truly and greatly appreciated. The Parish working together is what makes it a success. Please continue to support and be part of our major Parish fundraisers.
