ForewordAs Loftsails celebrates twenty years the good vibes are stronger than ever. And it’s an opportunity to look back on a life
designing windsurfing sails...
Windsurfing took me when I was building yacht and dinghy sails - way back when mylar sailcloth was new, mast flex character was unknown, and boards were simply chopped to make them shorter for strong winds. Windsurfers were fast
compared to dinghies, but our centerboards – hung over our arms - were banging on our sides and our teak booms… We imagined how it all could be better.
Custom windsurfing sails were produced in my garage and in the yacht sail lofts where I worked. Ways to improve appeared.
Passion for progressive design led to working with big brands and top riders, visiting shows and events, World Cup wins, World Speed Records... I traveled all over the world and met so many supercharged windsurfers sharing windsurfing’s good
vibes. An amazing 40 plus years living and breathing windsurfing. And there’s still more in the tank!
Loftsails began in 1999 on a sailmakers budget. The early years were both demanding and rewarding. Windsurfing passion led to Loftsails’ growth.
I am so very fortunate to explore wind vision with our team of talented riders. The Loftsails team is diverse, but all share wind vision. Loftsails team diversity is evident in the design quality embedded in
Loftsails for all windsurfing disciplines.
Loftsails 2020 is now 20 years on the water, built on 40 years of windsurfing passion. All 2020 Loftsails designs are improved with new materials and batten systems. Improvements that further animate Loftsails
performance on the water.
Windsurfing – more than ever – is greater than the sum of the parts. Wind vision.

R&D TarifaThe Loftsails team work together to explore wind and rig interaction. Our passion leads research and development. Which design parameters have been updated for 2020 rages?
All 2020 designs further enhance Loftsails’ performance on the water. Loftsails Purelip, Wavescape, Airscape, Racingblade and Raceboardblade designs are more reactive and life-like than ever – aided by new 2020 batten flex specs, and subtle adjustments worked into the sail profiles.
Which sails have evolved the most?
Loftsails 2020 foil designs represent the deep development work invested in this fantastic new sport. Compliments to Ramon Pastor Maltas and Fernando Martinez del Cerro - the core Loftsails research and development team - for their podium positions at the 2019 Formulafoil European Championships.

1. BREATHING, TRIM-REACTIVE DESIGNS - Wind vision is performance greater than the sum of the parts the board, the rider and the rig become life-like windsurfing at its best! Loftsails designs are alive, breathing, living, with performance available from the rig in all conditions. Forward sail profile orientation, high skin tension and a soft-twisting, exhausting leech work together to produce life-like rigs that expand performance and wind range. Living, breathing designs are characterized by trim reactivity: Soft trim raises the power center; powering-up the rig in light winds. Hard trim lowers the power center; streamlining the rig for strong winds.
2. IPC + HARDCORE DURABILITY IPC - Loftsails simple, effective, exclusive construction technique. At the sail corners, panels are overlapped creating radial extensions into the sail body. The head and tack corners on all Loftsails designs share this feature. The Pure Lip clew is also includes IPC- the seams that extend into the sail body from under the clew allow the “boomzone” panels to extend under the clew eyelet. This creates an integrated two-ply that radiates into the sail body.
3. METALLIC CAM INTERFACES (MCIS) - With each sail rotation, cam designs without MCIs will experience cam-to-sail contact point degradation.Loftsails exclusive MCIs work with our Teckam system to eliminate such deterioration to maintain a clean, efficient leading edge for your Blade. To soften rotation, MCI removal is an easy option.
4. LOFTSAILS QUALITY - Our materials are 1st quality: we engineer our sails with specialized mast pocket styles, state-of-the-art triaxial and bi-axial laminates, woven polyetsers in varying weights and finishings. Loftsails are produced with progressive construction techniques: multiple scrim- adhesive reinforcements, 5-layer glued seams, extruded pvc edge and batten wear guards, molded batten end wear studs details that produce state-of-the- art sails. Loftsails hardware is also exclusive: multi-sectioned batten systems (rods and tubes) with location-specific carbon content, precision-ground profile tapers, stainless 3 and 4 roller pulleys and multiple clew eyelets, individual batten tensioning systems top quality components.
5. EQUALIZED - Loftsails batten tensioners- dual side-loops that center & equalize batten tensioner load to the batten/batten pocket/sail body.
6. ADJUSTABLE OUTHAUL - Adjust the character of your rig. Expanded wind range made direct The Loftsails Adjustable Outhaul. Loftsails adjustable outhaul is easy & effective. Compatible with all boom types, included with Loftsails Switchblades adjust the character of your rig immediately and effectively suitable for freeride, freerace, and slalom competitions.
7. LOFTSAILS TEKCAM2 SYSTEM MAST INTERCHANGEABILITY - Simple, functional, light, adjustable, durable The Loftsails Reduced and Large Tekcam2s allow both Sdm & Rdm mast compatibility for Racing Blades. No other brand has it. Our Tekcam2 system expands performance possibilities by allowing riders to choose the mast of their choice sdms are well suited to larger sail sizes, larger riders and flat water, while rdms are well suited to smaller riders, smaller sizes and rough conditions. Tekcam2s are new, designed with a larger footprint on the mast, longer rollers and larger contact areas above and below the rollers.
8. EXCLUSIVE BATTEN SYSTEMS - Loftsails builds each Loftsail with specific batten sections and batten tapers to create anoptimized internal structure for all our sails. Loftsails batten systems are engineered with: Rods for microbattens, front ends for tubed battens and for standing battens (like tubes for waves!) Tubes two types: 30% carbon and 100% carbonLoftsails rectangular batten section (10mmx7mm rod) is profiled on the wider dimension this forces the rear section to resist flex in its stiffer (standing) orientation. The effect is like tubes (stiff!) and does not suffer fragility in surf. 9. MOLDED PVC PROTECTORS - Thermo-foam mast/board pad with uphaul port, batten-tensioner key keeper, line pouch and roll-up strap.Soft pvc foot edge, lower batten pocket & foot 2ply seam protectors. Soft pvc batten pocket/boom protector applied to batten pocket crossing the boom. Molded pvc protectors sewn onto the mast pocket top prevents wear to critical parts while being aerodynamically optimized.

The Racingblade is Loftsails’ dedicated slalom racing sail. On the competition circuit since 2012, the design is developed with attention to blistering acceleration and top speed. Efficient and stable profiles, a relatively free leech, and wide ultra-low drag mast pockets are designed into the Racingblade.
Wide mast pockets require firm tension for smooth airflow efficiency. The Racingblade mast pocket construction is unique: all 3 layers - the mast panel and the two mast pocket sides - are tensioned by the tack pulley webbings.
This construction - first developed by Loftsails - equalizes mast panel and mast pocket loading. which is key to achieving the Racingblades’ firm, clean, easy-rotating leading edge.

Y2020 BladeFRFORMULA RACING MACHINEFEATURES & BENEFITS• Internal vertical and horizontal Kevlar strip applications at cams – defines profile and augments stability• Blade mast pocket construction features mast panel and 2 mil triax X-Ply mast pocket sides (3 layers) tensioned directly (all 3 layers under tack pulley webbings) – downhaul tension is equalized between the mast panel and the mast pocket resulting in the BladeFR’s firm, clean, easy-rotating leading edge• Tubed battens with varying carbon content. Top 3 specialized 100% carbon tubes – carbon tubes are lightweight and deliver superior top-end stability• Metallic Cam Interfaces MCIs eliminate contact point degradation characteristic of cam designs without MCIs• X-ply batten pockets that alternate sail sides - using similar material for the batten pocket as the body material minimises the asymmetric character of applied batten pockets. Pockets made with laminates allow the batten to be centred. These features combine to maintain rotation symmetry. In contrast, same-side dacron pockets promote asymmetrical rotation• Neoprene boom cutout with dual zippers – the rig is streamlined for improved speeds• 7 mil monofilm vertical internal panel (inside mast pocket) – profile stability• Durable IYU250 4-part mast pocket – the perfect material between your mast and the elements• Trim diamond - leech-release reference: dial into your sailing conditions
Raceboard competition most closely reflects classic racing: upwind starts, mark roundings, tactics based on windshifts, and - as always - a premium on speed. My roots run deep in the raceboard class, and our raceboard team could not be stronger. Both Joao Rodriguez and Curro Manchon are clear about what is needed to win. Joao is the current World and European Raceboard champion and it is the joint development of the Loftsails Raceboardblade design that has delivered such results.
The LW (light wind) is specific for low wind competition, while the Raceboardblade is superbly effective when the winds rise above 12 knots.

Loftsails quality pre-preg construction methods make the 50% Carbon Spark more than an entry-level mast, with reaction and performance comparable to many higher carbon-content mast models and solid construction for peace of mind. Excellent choice with super longevity for general freeride blasting and progression and great value for money.
Loftsails Vision 75% carbon range deliver highend response and reaction for performance freeriders, freerace and wavesailing use in a durable pre-preg construction package that’s tough and strong for either camber wear or punishment in the surf.
Loftsails reliable, precision manufacturing methods ensure consistent quality that reduces production variance tolerance considerably so that the intended behavior of the masts is assured.

Loftsails Team Edition masts are focused on achieving the best possible response for the least possible weight, without compromising durability. In high-performance sails, reaction and reflex are critical and having that pre-set, intended behavior pre-set and consistently replicated in all diameters and sizes of the mast program is the number one requirement in complementing their test-winning sails.
Using the best possible T700 and T800 carbon fibers and pre-preg (pre-impregnated with resin for the best possible quality vs. traditional wet layup processes) methods.Loftsails autoclave-cured process delivers the highest standard of tensile strength, impact/friction protection and responsive flex available – all from a bespoke, dedicated program – unlike many brands that rely on off-the-shelf OEM products alone.

Team Edition Mast ExtensionFor those windsurfers who prefer slalom-seat harness designs, Loftsails has a new solution. The Loftsails Slalom Lite harness is the effective transfer of rig power to your body. The Slalom Lite harness is designed with four vertical seams that allow the curves worked into the vertical seams a unique snug fit to the body. Neoprene interior center and side panels make for a soft grip, while the dual side stiffeners take transfer rig power softly to the hips. The bottom panel is triple layer, while the neoprene panels also include internal strengthening panels. Spreader bar adjustment tails are velcro-equipped to keep your windsurfing silent. The Loftsails Slalom Lite harness is compfortable, light, strong, and transfers rig power directly to the sailors hips... fantastically functional.
