Jillaroo School

Sunday, 8 February 2015

Bill is keen to put the jillaroos to work as soon as possible, but only three of them can ride a horse well enough to send out into the paddocks. The solution is to get novices Deb and Janine up to speed on riding quad bikes. While Aaron teaches them the basics, AJ, Tessa and Mandy have their first herding lesson on horseback with Stacey. They begin to learn the fundamentals of moving livestock, but a few simple mistakes soon show them how far they have to go.

With all of the jillaroos now mobile, Bill establishes a routine of daily farm jobs, and the trainees quickly learn to feed the animals, fill and clean water troughs, and keep liquid supplements topped up around the property. They also start to realise just how physically demanding this work is.Later in the day, the trainee jillaroos are fascinated to watch Bill work with an unbroken young mare, Hope.

Soon the jillaroos face their first team challenge. Bill sends them out to muster a mob of cattle back to the yards. At first things run smoothly, but when the girls try to put the mob through a gate, the entire exercise spirals into chaos. Deb can't get her quad bike out of reverse, Janine crashes her bike into the gate, and the horse riders are unable to control the panicked cattle. Finally the team reach the yards, and realise there's an awful lot to learn over the next three weeks if they are to succeed on the final muster. The jillaroos must then process the cattle through the yards as Bill attaches ear tags to each cow and drenches them, to kill any parasites. The girls do better with this task, and Bill lets them know that he is happier with their effort here.

At the end of the working week everyone can take a breather, and the jillaroos mingle with the community during a visit to the pub. However, for Tessa it's a different story at her accommodation in town, where she is wrestling with an agonising decision. The nanny taking care of her son Riley is unsuitable, so Tessa has let her go. If no replacement can be found at short notice, Tessa's short time as a jillaroo may be over.

David Attenborough's Conquest Of The Skies

Sunday, 8 February 2015 Brand New SeriesOver one hundred billion creatures fly through the air today, from nectar-drinking hummingbirds to armoured airborne beetles; from bats hunting in the dead of night to bizarre winged lizards. In Conquest of the Skies David Attenborough travels through time to unravel the astonishing 300-million-year story of how flying animals first appeared and then evolved into the huge variety of aeronauts that fill our skies today. Only now, with today's CGI, the very latest high resolution filming techniques and cutting-edge scientific analysis can he reveal the hidden mechanics behind their gravity-defying skills.

Attenborough begins by exploring the aerobatic world of the very first flyers: the insects. Stunning images give us fresh insights into an astonishing story - from the first creatures that flew on four wings, to the beetles that build hard wing-cases to colonise the land, and the stunningly beautiful tropical butterflies that can migrate thousands of miles around the globe. He concludes his exploration of the flying insects by investigating the remarkable skills of the insect that scientists call the jet fighter of the insect world: the humble but surprisingly acrobatic blowfly. By adapting one of its pairs of wings into flight sensors, it can register mid-air rolls in an instant and so perform extraordinarily complex aerial manoeuvres.

Judith Lucy Is All Woman

Wednesday, 11 February 2015 New SeriesAfter her much-loved ABC series Judith Lucy's Spiritual Journey, one of Australia's favourite funny ladies is back with JUDITH LUCY IS ALL WOMAN. If you've ever been a woman, been in one, or come out of one, this six-part series is for you. It's a timely exploration of where women are at in modern Australia - and what that means for men - told from the unique perspective of someone who's been a woman for most of her life.

From the outback to the city, Judith jumps head-first into sex, showbiz, politics, families, cougars, cosmetic surgery and careers, and chats to people from all walks of life, from all over the country, as she tries to work out if the battle of the sexes is still in progress and if so, who is winning?

Featuring special appearances from Denise Scott, Mick Molloy, Alan Davies, Julie Bishop, Anna Bligh, Annabel Crabb, Kaz Cooke, Deborah Hutton, Adam Goodes, Deborah Conway, Ella Hooper, Justine Clarke and a host of inspirational, unusual, outrageous and interesting Australian women. And men. And children. And a freaky robotic baby.

In the first episode, Judith rigs up a rubber penis and hits her local watering hole disguised as a man in an attempt to understand if what's in your pants determines your success. She catches up with her old friend, comedian Alan Davies, and talks to White Ribbon Ambassadors - AFL star Adam Goodes and NRL star Clint Newton as well as transgender men Jez Pez and Buck Angel.

She also discusses the 'F' word: what is it about the word feminism that gets so many people hot under the collar? Judith takes on outspoken American musician Amanda Palmer in a few rounds of Feminist Jelly Wrestling.

From the red earth of Broken Hill comes a look at one of the most unusual emergency departments in the country. Experience just how different a life-threatening crisis can be in one of the most isolated locations on earth.Outback ER introduces us to the incredible emergency response team personnel who live and work in this remote region - the staff from Broken Hill Base Hospital Emergency Department, the Ambulance Service of NSW, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

From snakebites and amputations, to farm accidents and heart attacks, every admission brings a new challenge. Witnessing real human drama and meeting some extraordinary characters, Outback ER offers an intimate and moving insight into the diverse population of Broken Hill, and the realities of life and death in the Australian outback.

This unforgiving desert landscape breeds a population of no nonsense locals who live hard and play hard - some will even wait days before getting a broken bone treated. Hiding

Thursday, 12 February 2015

Lincoln (James Stewart) is to testify against his former boss Nils Vandenberg (Marcus Graham), as is his criminal acquaintance Bobby Chisel, who's in Witness Protection in Queensland. That should get them their old life back!

But the family is trying to cope with new identities in a strange city. In all the upheaval, Bec (Kate Stewart) has forgotten daughter Tara's (Olivia DeJonge) birthday. To make matters worse, she side-swipes a parked car and flees the scene.

A bureaucratic error sees Tara and Mitch (Lincoln Younes) enrolled in a performing-arts school, and the cops have sent the wrong fake student records. Horrified, Mitch finds himself in a singing class. And he's just left his first love back on the Gold Coast.

Meanwhile, Pinder fails to show up to meet Lincoln at the university, and he ends up in a forensic psychology tutorial, and becomes part of the debate.

Desperate to buy Tara a birthday gift, Bec applies for a credit card, but her new ID sets off alarm bells in the bank's computer system, and the security staff begin to circle. With so many screw-ups, Bec begins to suspect Pinder is either incompetent or crooked. Her theory is strengthened when Lincoln sees a news report that Bobby Chisel has been shot dead.

Bec and Lincoln can either sit back and wait to be killed, or get the hell away from the safe house and Pinder. They pack their possessions, pull the kids out of school and hit the road. But with no money, no plan and no petrol, they soon run out of options.

Louis Theroux's LA Stories: Edge Of Life

Thursday, 12 February 2015

Louis Theroux puts Los Angeles under the microscope in three fascinating new documentaries.

In Louis Theroux's LA Stories, Louis continues his diverse exploration of life in America. This time he looks at LA's problem with neglected and feral dogs; the experiences of patients with life-threatening conditions at the city's most famous hospital; and examines how California deals with sex offenders after they are released from prison.

Louis heads to the award-winning Cedars Sinai Medical Centre, the most famous hospital in Los Angeles, to learn more about the American way of death. A huge amount of money is spent on treatment during the last year of life and Louis follows the stories of three patients as they grapple with their seemingly terminal conditions.

Should they accept the inevitable and try to die in as dignified way a possible? Or should they go down fighting, trying every last treatment no matter how unlikely it is to succeed or how bad the side effects may be? Here it's often the latter because the US medical system continues to pay for treatments that patients want. Louis has extraordinary access to families and patients in deep crisis and at least one of the stories has an extraordinary twist in the tail.

PRODUCTION DETAILS:Presenter: Louis Theroux, Executive Producer: Sam Bagnall. Louis Theroux's LA Stories is a BBC Production.

The Doctor Blake Mysteries: King Of The Lake

Friday, 13 February 2015 New SeriesDoctor Lucien Blake (Craig McLachlan) is back, but Ballarat is no longer the safe haven he has come to call home. Matthew Lawson (Joel Tobeck) has been sent to Melbourne to face disciplinary charges; charges Blake is quite sure are his fault, not Lawson’s.

A new Chief Superintendent is on the way, a man who will not be won over by the Doctor's strange but effective methods as Police Surgeon. Blake will be forced to try and re-calibrate on a weekly basis with this man, but the new Super will not be swayed from his ultimate goal… the end of Blake's official involvement with the Ballarat Police Department.

There is a lingering awkwardness with Jean (Nadine Garner), his assistant and housekeeper, and for the first time we gain some insight into Jean's history and her marriage that ended when her husband was killed in action whilst serving in the Solomons. Jean has her eyes opened to the fact that she is certainly not getting any younger, and that there is an entire world outside the confines of cosy, familiar Ballarat. Will she finally leave the town where she's spent her entire life? And if so, how will she tell Blake?

And on top of all this Blake is also confronted with a new mystery, a cold case that goes back almost 40 years and has in many ways come to define him as a man… what really led to the death of his beloved mother, Genevieve Etienne?

In the first episode, when an elite schoolboy rower wins a regatta on Lake Wendouree then inexplicably drowns, his mother asks Doctor Blake to find the truth behind her son's death.
