The Loft Writing Center Plus Located on the top floor of the library, The Loft Writing Center Plus offers free writing, English, ESL and world language tutoring to all students enrolled at North. Get personalized help with reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, speaking, listening and much more from our team of seasoned tutors. Students are also welcome to use one of the over 30 language arts software programs, including Focus on Grammar, Writer’s Resources and Visual Thesaurus. On-campus childcare The ASB Child Care Center is a service provided for students and is funded by the Associated Student Body and parent fees in cooperation with the college’s administration. The center offers a safe and nurturing environment where your child will have positive social interaction and age-appropriate learning experiences.

Staff have college degrees in early childhood education and child development. The center is licensed by the state Department of Social and Health Services and participates in the City of Seattle’s Comprehensive Child Care Program. Children must be between 18 months and 5 years old. Students must be enrolled for at least 10 credits at North.

NSCC’s WorkFirst Programs are designed to help parents receiving TANF gain the skills necessary to obtain employment and higher wages. Parent Resources

Want to learn more about your young child’s behavior, stages of development and child rearing techniques? Enroll in a Parent Education class. Taught by a college instructor, these classes are for

parents of infants (2 to 11 months), toddlers (12 to 23 months), pre-threes (24-35 months), three to fives (36 to 60 months), and five year-olds by August 31, 2012.

NSCC’s Cooperative Preschools provide parent and early education for families with children from infancy to Pre-K. Schools are located in North Seattle and differ from traditional preschools in that they are run by parent-led boards which work in association with the children’s teacher and the North Seattle Community College faculty. Parents also get the benefits of supporting their child’s education by working one day per week in

the classroom and attending a monthly parent education class. The preschools are very popular and provide a community of

support for children and their families.

We also offer off-campus and online options. This winter take Avoid Emotional Meltdowns: Helping Kids Deal with Disappointment, taught on Wednesdays off campus starting January 23, 2013, or check out FAM 180 Special Topics for Parents of Young Children.
