Discipline

TPCS wants to provide a safe, nurturing, & pleasant environment for all our children. We understand that preschool aged children respond best with positive, constructive, and age suited guidance.

• To prevent unacceptable behavior, teachers arrange the classroom environment appropriately, as well as communicate & model acceptable behavior. We use descriptive praise and encouragement.

• For general misbehavior, teachers will use redirection (substituting a positive activity for a negative one) and distraction (changing focus). We aim to actively listen to the child to help us determine any underlying causes of misbehavior.

• For repeated misbehavior, student will be told to stop; asked to state the acceptable behavior; and agree to adjust behavior immediately. Time-out is used as a last resort, and only if other methods have not been effective or behavior is dangerous for the child or other children.

• If misbehavior continues, the office staff may be involved to allow for a change in working environment or to contact parents.

TPCS has a "hands off" policy. Fighting, biting, bullying, crude language, class disruptions are not tolerated -- and may result in probation or suspension.
