This meeting assists the positive partnership between parents, teachers and children to gain the maximum learning outcomes and enjoyment at school for your child. As I walked around and visited Learning Communities during the night, it was lovely to hear how well the students have settled into school and how much they love to be a Tulliallan student. Miss Reeves and Miss Guevarra’s Meet the Teacher sessions will be rescheduled as they were unable to hold their Home Group sessions last night. ALREADY IN 9 DAYS OF SCHOOL OUR STUDENTS HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE THE FOLLOWING SINCE THE START OF SCHOOL SAFER INTERNET DAY SESSIONS Years 3 to 6 have had Cyber Safety sessions called ‘Your Digital Superpowers’ and ‘Bouncing Back from Online Bullying’. Thank you to Miss Ryan for organising these sessions. These sessions were a part of the Safer Internet Day education for students covering understanding relationships, expressing emotions appropriately, recognising ways to make appropriate choices and seek help for personal health, safety and wellbeing. Please ask your child about their thoughts on these sessions and what they learned. FIRST AID INCURSION All students at Tulliallan PS have participated in First Aid learning sessions provided by St Johns Ambulance. These sessions teach students how to; identify dangers, call for an ambulance, place patients in a recovery position, check airways are clear and perform CPR. SWIMMING TRIALS On Monday we had 20 students attend the swimming trials to be selected for the Tulliallan school swimming team that will compete in the Hampton Park District swimming sports on Wednesday 20 th February. Congratulations to all students for trying their best and to the parents who helped transport and support on the morning. Congratulations to the following students who will represent Tulliallan PS – Nethaya, Prince, Roha, Bailee, Alex, Sejal, Lilly, Emily, Melad, Lena BRAINSTORM PRODUCTIONS: THE HUMAN RACE - INCURSION REMINDER! Please make sure you access COMPASS to give permission for your child to attend Brainstorm Productions on Tuesday 5 th March presenting their student wellbeing program ‘The Human Race’ for all students. 'The Human Race' is an anti-bullying and resilience program for primary schools that reinforces positive relationships and provides resources to help reduce the incidence of bullying at school and online. It encourages tolerance, kindness, respect and empathy. Respect, Equality, Safety, Patience, Empathy, Care and Trust. These are the values that will be explored in this dramatic performance. ‘The Human Race’ reinforces what your child has been learning as part of the Team Tulliallan program and zero tolerance to bullying approach. If your child does not participate in this incursion they will be placed in another home group to complete alternate work, therefore it would be beneficial to attend this incursion as a celebration of ‘Team Tulliallan’. The permission notice is on COMPASS and this is an important session for every child to attend. PARENT VOLUNTEERS AND INVOLVEMENT AT SCHOOL REMINDER At Tulliallan Primary School we encourage parent volunteers, through the Learning Community newsletters, where home group teachers will request help for hearing students read or assisting on excursions or special events such as helping out for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Stalls, BBQs, or Mini Fete Day. Parents may ask their home group teacher if they require any assistance. MEET THE TEACHER

Thank you to our families and teachers who shared information at the ‘Meet The Teacher’ sessions yesterday. This meeting assists the positive partnership between parents, teachers and children to gain the maximum learning outcomes and enjoyment at school for your child. As I walked around and visited Learning Communities during the night, it was lovely to hear how well the students have settled into

school and how much they love to be a Tulliallan student.

2019 SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS - NOMINATIONS OPEN MONDAY 11TH FEBRUARY

Tulliallan Primary School Council is made up of 9 members - 4 parent representatives, 3 Department of Education representatives (of which, one must be the Principal) and 2 co-opted representatives. The 2 co-opted positions can only be appointed by the School Council once established. Of our current 4 parent representatives, 2 complete their term in March 2019, meaning we will have 2 vacancies for 2019. Our School Council meetings are held at school at 7pm in the evening twice

per term.

Nominations for parent and DET employee vacancies on the Tulliallan Primary School Council open Monday morning the 11th February and will close the following Monday 18th February, at 4pm. All nominations must

meet the eligibility criteria.

Timetable For Elections

Notice of Elections and Call for Nominations – Monday 11th February 2019. Close of Nominations – Monday 19th February at 4pm 2019. (If more than 2 nominations are received then a ballot will have to be conducted) All voting completed (only if necessary) Monday 4th March 2019. Declaration of Ballot (only if necessary) Monday 4th March 2019. Duties of a School Council

Within state-wide guidelines, the major responsibilities of all school councils include:

Developing and monitoring the directions of the school strategic plan.

Establishing the goals and priorities of the school and determining its education policy.

Approving the school budget consistent with the school charter and maintaining financial responsibility.

Reporting annually to the school community and Department of Education.

Developing the school’s code of conduct.

Generally stimulate interest in the school.

Approve all camps and excursions that are conducted overnight.

Role of School Councillors

Parents and staff are elected to Council to represent the interests of all students, parents and all staff and to ensure that the best outcomes for all students are achieved. Nomination forms are available from the Principal. If you have any questions about the role of a school councillor or the nomination process, please contact the Principal at the office. If more nominations than the number of vacancies are received, a ballot will be conducted. Details of the ballot will appear in the Newsletter. The first meeting for the existing school council will be on Wednesday 20th of February at 7pm. The first meeting for newly elected councillors will be on Wednesday 20th of

March at 7pm.

THE VALUE OF THE WEEK

This week students are concentrating on the value of ‘Friendliness’. Please praise your child when they are using correct language and

actions promoting a friendly outlook towards others.

ACCIDENT INSURANCE

The Department of Education does not provide personal accident insurance for students. Parents/Guardians are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including any transport costs such as ambulance. Parents/Guardians may obtain their own

accident insurance privately from commercial insurers.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

LEARNING COMMUNITY NEWSLETTERS

Yesterday on COMPASS a year level and specialist newsletter were posted. Both newsletters explain events that are occurring during the term as well as curriculum information. If there is something else that you would like to know in regard to what is happening in Term One please

contact your child’s homeroom teacher.

SCOOTER AND BIKES

Tulliallan Primary School has very strict guidelines in regard to riding a scooter or bike to school. All children must wear a helmet and all children must not ride their bike or scooter in the school grounds. As soon as students get to the school gate they must walk their bike or scooter through the school and vice versa at the end of the day, students must

not get on their bike or scooter until they have exited the grounds.

MAD ON MUSIC

Mad on Music lessons began today and continue tomorrow. All children that have enrolled in the program will participate on either a Wednesday or Thursday. Just a reminder that Mad on Music is a private music lesson (no more than 4 students at a time) in either guitar, keyboard or

singing. If you are interested in enrolling please contact Mad on Music

directly.

KIDS HOPE PROGRAM

As of Monday February 18th our Kids Hope program will begin. Kids Hope is a mentoring program where volunteers come into the school to work 1:1 with children. The children that are involved in the program are loving it and have had an opportunity to experience lots of fun activities in

the hour they spend with their mentor each week.

MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB VISIT

Today a number of our Year 5 students participated in a gratitude session or football clinic with players from the Melbourne Football Club. The Melbourne Football Club are visiting schools in the Casey area to promote wellbeing and healthy lifestyles. The children had a great time

participating and then collecting autographs.
