DIARY DATES PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

KEEPING YOU INFORMED

The Expression of Interest for the relieving Principal position closes Wednesday 1 July. Our panel will convene the following day to discuss candidates and ring referees. As soon as the decision is made and the candidate has accepted the position we will inform our staff, students and community. This is an exciting time and Blacksmiths PS will be well sought after. We will be looking for the best fit to ensure a smooth transition for everyone.

TERM 3

Monday 20 July is a Staff Development Day, hence only teachers and office staff will be on site. Children K-6 begin Term 3 on Tuesday 21 July. Currently, advice regarding parents on site remains the same, therefore drop of and pickups will remain at the front and side gate until we get more direction from the Department of Education or health officials. Remember to introduce yourself and get to know the new Principal to make them feel welcome.

SURFBOARDS

Our front display is finished, thanks to the hard work of Mr White and Mr Lindsey, our General Assistants. Once again, we appreciated the donations of surfboards from our parents to make this possible. Also thank you to Mrs Burnes for her artistic ability and leadership in decorating the boards with our school core values.

OUR SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT

There has been quite a bit happening around our school to ensure I leave the school in the best possible position for a new person. The work that has been happening has also lifted the school to look bright and colourful and more child friendly. Some of the work includes:

New sandstone eating area

An extended mulch pit for the children to dig and build

Installation of a boat (as printed in previous Newsletters)

Front surfboard display

Step treads with times tables

New compactor shelving for the reading room

Recycled Flower Power

Once again, most of this work would not have been able to happen without Mr White, Mr Lindsey and Mr Taylor.

ENROLMENTS

It is looking like we will have another fabulous year in 2021 with our enrolments already at 15 children and it’s only the end of Term 2. If you are aware of any family, friends or neighbours that are yet to enrol their children please let them know to do it soon as Kindergarten Parent Orientation is in Term 3.

BEANIE & PJ DAY

The day was a huge success, raising $160.50 for the Mark Hughes Brain Cancer Foundation. Our wonderful Melissa Burge provided MHF beanies for purchase, with sales of those reaching $275. It is fantastic that our community can support a charity, as anyone can be affected by this scary disease.

SCHOOL BANKING IS BACK!

School Banking at our school will recommence from Week 1 of Term 3 and will be processed on Tuesdays.

We have decided to utilise the Commonwealth Bank School Banking Portal to track tokens and no longer issue physical tokens, making it easier for parents and your co-ordinator. Your School Banking Co-ordinator will notify students when they are eligible to redeem a reward. To assist us in the transition, could you please return any Dollarmites tokens the next time your child participates in School Banking. Thank you.

GARDEN STALL

This Thursday will be the last stall for the Term. Produce available includes spinach, eggs, herbs, mandarins, apples and tomatoes.
