Dimension #3The spiritual dimension recognizes our search for meaning and purpose; theethics, values and morals that guide us and give meaning and direction to life.

SpiritualOne of the more

common ideas thatcome to mind when

you hear the word spiritual ischurch services, so Wednesdayis church service day on thecampus. Those who want toattend additional services atthe local churches are welcometo use the bus on Sundaymornings as it travels to areachurches.

Tudor Oaks realizes thatspirituality can encompassmuch more than churchservices. Attending spiritualprograms and scripturestudies helps to uncover the meaning and purpose oflife. To fulfill that need, we have a full time chaplainon staff. Reverend Michelle Peterson, M.Div. sharesher compassion, religious values and ethics to helpguide those in search of meaning, during troubledtimes and to listen to those in need.

Additionally, she has a fantastic sense of humor andan infectious laugh which helped earn her the title ofLaughter Yoga Instructor. Laughter is definitely ahealing experience. Research has shown that humanaging has a mind-body connection that can bereleased through laughter. Humor and our responseto it can have many unexpected health benefits.Stress reduction, mood boosting, improved immunesystem, enhanced brain function, reduced risk or evenprevention of heart disease, maintenance of bloodsugar levels and- like a mild workout - laughterpromotes relaxation and an increased pain threshold.Your body doesn’t know the difference between a real

laugh or a forced laugh, eitherway a good laugh improves yourhealth. Have a good laugh it willdo you good.

Part of our Mission Statement -We endeavor to provideenvironments that nurtureself-worth, hope and dignity-exemplifies our dedication toprovide an atmosphere thatallows residents, familymembers and staff to reach theirfullest potential. Outstandingcare and compassion arementioned in each note ofappreciation that we receive atTudor Oaks. The essence of

spirituality exists on the campus. It’s like an upliftingreligious song that gets stuck in your head but youdon’t mind humming that tune every day.

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine…

Dimension #4Physical development exhibits a healthy body maintained by good nutrition, regularexercise, avoiding harmful habits, and making informed decisions about health.

PhysicalChoices, choices, choices, it’s all about delicious

choices and residents can select from a varietyof main entrees, soups, salads and an array of

desserts. Scrumptious food prepared right on campuswith nutritional considerations highlight the menueveryday. The Oak Ridge Dining Room servesresidents on linen table cloths with linen napkinsevery day to help make the dining experience a socialevent as well as nutritious.

Exercise is anotherimportant component ofphysical development.Residents areencouraged to gothrough a fitnessassessment when theymove to the campus todetermine which classesthey are best suited for. From circuit training toseated strength training, all classes bring about agreater sense of health and well being for those whoattend. Dance classes and Wii games are also availablein the Laurel Pine Gym.

Aquatic classes in the warm water pool also addto the wellness options on the campus. Lisa Grimmer, the Wellness Director, is a certified Life Guard andArthritis Swim Class instructor. Water classes offer alow impact workout with great results.

Through the redevelopment of the campus, TudorOaks realized the importance of wellness anddedicated a large portion of the project to providingthe perfect space for residents and staff to reach theirwellness goals.

Another phase of redevelopment is beginning at theFrances Henry Center (Skilled Nursing). There will bea new entrance and a therapy room will be added to

the currentwing, plusadditionalprivate roomsfor rehabresidents.

Long term careresidents havean addedbonus. A new Restorative Program was started earlierthis year and residents are showing amazing increasesin stability, strength and endurance. The programproves that it is never too late to start improving yourhealth.

Another community improvement that has createdblooming smiles is the Windsor Gardens patio andwalking path. The newly created outdoor spaceallows residents who suffer from memory loss to stayconnected to nature. Judy Stiyer, a volunteer, hasbrought the garden to life with perennials from herown garden. She selected plants that would evokememories of the past and lovingly transplanted themto the Windsor Garden space. The stimulating colors, lovely fragrances and rustling foliage provide a senseof belonging, well being and calm. Ask to visit thegarden when you tour the community.

Dimension #5Emotional wellness is the ability to understand your own feelings, accept your limitations,

achieve emotional stability and become comfortable with your emotions.

EmotionalAs a Continuing Care

Retirement Community(CCRC), Tudor Oaks

offers the freedom and securitythat may be needed during someof life’s emotional dilemmas.Residents have thecompassionate support ofmedical staff, social workers anda chaplain, if the need arises. Those researching a move cantour and learn about the advantages of living in thistype of supportive community setting.

The active campus and variety of residentpersonalities offers the perfect recipe for building newfriendships and enjoying the positive feelings that

accompany them. We are onlylimited by our imaginations.

Note from daughter of a newresident couple:

“After the first night of Mom andDad in their new Tudor Oaksapartment, I can tell you I havenot seen them this happy inmany, many years! Both lookedaround after the move and said

‘this feels like home’. I thank you for youroutstanding compassion and the exceptionalstandards you maintain and insist upon for thewhole crew at Tudor Oaks.”~ Constance Juday

Moving is an emotional decision as much as aphysical one. Home values and interestrates have created unusual selling patterns

for those ready to make a move. Here is someinteresting information from the Moving Station, anational relocation company that has a pulse on thehome sale market.

Rising mortgage interest rates are playing a part inreducing demand. As demand falls, supply grows;exerting downward pressure on home values. Becausethere are still policy and political influences drivingthe housing market in a positive direction, the impactof rising rates may be briefly delayed, but will soonassert itself. The time to sell is before the subsidiesend and the rates continue to climb.

As an example, look at a buyer who qualified for a$200,000 home loan early in May when rates were3.35%. The monthly payment on a $200,000 loan

would be only $879. If that’s the most that buyer canafford every month toward a home payment, thehigher current rate of 4.63% as of June 27th reducesthe qualified loan amount to just over $171,000. In thetime it normally takes to find a suitable home, thisbuyer’s purchasing power dropped 15%. As theeconomy continues showing signs of improvement, the easing of government subsidies will swiftly pushrates toward the historical norm of 6%. Looking againat our example buyer, at the 6% mortgage rate, thisbuyer would then qualify for a loan of only $147,000,diminishing his purchasing power by more than 25%from the mortgage rate’s low water mark. Aspurchasing power diminishes, so does demand, placing downward pricing pressure on home value.
