Our Year Five students are full engaged solving Algebraic patterns. All our teachers use the Concrete –Pictorial – Abstract model during every lesson to embed mathematical concepts. Balcatta Academic Challenge Friday 23 November 2018

On Friday 23 November, the Year 5 students from Challenge club (from both Semesters) participated in the Balcatta Academic Challenge at Balcatta Senior High school. We competed against five other schools like West Balcatta and Takari.

The High school held four challenges; English, Maths, Dance and Science and Technology. They were all extremely fun and creative, even if we were challenged! Our favourite activity was the Science and Technology task. Our goal was to create a Rube Goldberg machine which incorporates a chain reaction to accomplish a simple task. The task was to pop a balloon.

Throughout the day, we collaborated as a team to work through different challenges. We didn’t win the Balcatta Academic Challenge but at the end of the day, everybody is a winner; we tried new things, we got out of our comfort zone and we learned about team Work. Our day concluded with a bus trip back to school. It was a unique and a challenging experience.

2018 Semester Two Summative Student Reports emailed to you next Friday 7 December 2018

This December our school will be joining the majority of primary schools across the state who email Summative Student reports to parents. Parents will receive a link to their child/rens Summative Report that will allow you to save an electronic copy of the Report to any device of your choice, making the 2018 Summative Report available on demand for you and your extended family.

To ensure you receive your child/rens Summative Reports at the same time as your friends and peers, please make sure that we have your current email address linked to your child/rens information on our school Student Information System. Email [email protected] with any critical changes that the School needs to know; thank you.

While my experience has been that many people adore having an electronic copy of their child/rens summative reports that they can download and print as many times as they wish, should you like me to provide a hard copy of your child/rens Summative Report please let me know via email when I send you the link, and I will ensure that the hard copy is passed to your child before Thursday 13 December 2018.

Our school plans to distribute the 2018 Semester Two Summative Reports to parents by close of business Friday 7 December 2018. This allows parents and carers a weekend to read through the Report, and you have a week to ask your class teacher, the specialist teachers or me to clarify any grade or comment.

As well as the Summative Report, parents of students Years 1 – 6 will receive a second link that downloads the School Position Report. This Report is unique to your child and indicates the grade they

received for a specified Learning Area then shows the spread of grades allocated in our school for that Learning Area, for this reporting timespan (Semester Two 2018). Please ask me directly to explain the purpose of the School Position Report if you have any queries, thank you.

Our teachers hope that parents will welcome this initiative to distribute Summative Reports a little earlier to allow for interviews if required and celebrations of superb student achievement.

Wow – we are blown away with the support you have shown our school, raising over $8,000.00 through the Lapathon to purchase items for the Senior and Junior play spaces.
