OCTOBER 18, 2019

October has been an incredible month. We had a blast celebrating St. Francis' feast day on October 4. Classes completed variousservice projects in and around the school, like making baby blankets for Respect Life Month,cleaning the school, and helping at Nazareth House. Students in the seventh grade classeseven got to volunteer with the Lord's Diner and the Kansas Food Bank. We also participated in a "Kindness Station" where we painted rocks in bright colors as acommunity-building activity. We also got to partake in a scavenger hunt that took us all around the school! We found cluesby the gym, water fountains, bulletin boards . . . all over! The school day ended with a holy half hour of Eucharistic adoration. Mr. Tierney, Miss Mally,Mr. Allen, Ms. Speck, and Mr. Dockers sang and played music for us! We were blessed to havethis time of prayer. Right after school, we got to bring our dogs, cats, �sh, and birds to the pet blessing. Fr. Jarrodblessed all kinds of creatures great and small! As we've continued through October, we got to celebrate Respect Life Month. We held a DiaperDrive to collect items for mothers in need, and Mr. Allen's eighth graders led us in a school-wide rosary as a special way of praying for respect for life at all stages. October has been great so far, and there's still more to come. We have our fall choir concert,Fun Night, and Halloween! What are you most looking forward to in the next two weeks?

GOLDEN SPOON UPDATE FROM THE LUNCHROOM

VIKING VOICEVIKING SINGERS FEATURED AT PARISH DINNER, THUNDER HOCKEY GAME I would like to introduce you to our 7th and 8th grade Viking Singers. This group is an electiveclass where 7th and 8th graders come together to form a choir that has 4 concerts a year, butalso sings around the city when requested. This group has had the opportunity to sing at theparish dinner and a Wichita Thunder hockey game already this year! Our fall concert is comingup next week on Thursday, October 24, at 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. where we will be joined bythe 4th-6th grade choirs. We will also be singing for the lighting of the Lights on St. Paul onNovember 23 and will go caroling around town in December. Our Christmas concert is onTuesday, December 10, at 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. This group has been putting in a lot of hardwork this year and I am so excited for you all to hear them! -Miss Mally

PRINTER CARTRIDGESUnfortunately, the company that recycled printer cartridges is out of business. Therefore,effective today, we can no longer accept cartridges for recycling. Thank you for supporting ourrecycling efforts!

SCHOOL SECURITY DRILL – DONE IN 97SECONDS!Our students and teachers successfully participated in the �rst school security drill for theyear on Wednesday, October 9. The O�ce of the Kansas State Fire Marshal requires schoolsto conduct 3 Crisis/Security Drills every year along with 2 tornado drills and 4 �re drills. All theteachers prepared their students for a “Shelter-in-Place” security drill by reviewing themeasures and details outlined in the SFA Emergency Procedures book. Our principal, Mrs.Mary Carter, made an all-school announcement 10 minutes before the drill began to help allstudents understand the drill. The drill was completed in 97 seconds. The next security drillswill be in December 2019 and in January 2020.
