“Healing Your Spirit: Nurturing You”: a resounding success at
our May 2014 retreat in Balnarring, on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Here are
some responses received:
Day 1
“Maria Cincotta’s art therapy was fun.
We rummaged through magazines, cut
out pictures and made a meaningful
laminated montage.” General feedback.

Marg Graham & Virginnia Kingsford (rt)
Day 2 “Sue Gregory’s Aboriginal bush
teachings and learnings helped us to
connect with the land. It was a lovely
sunny day and we experienced healing
oils, aboriginal songs and sounds and
their tonal effects on the body – as well
as a traditional smoking ceremony.”
General feedback (See information on
Sue’s indigenous healing retreats on
page 7). (Starring Michael Taylor, Vicki
Kinight, Jenny Cameron and Sue herself)
Followed by the Munay-Ki with Gerry,
Virginnia and Jenny ‘gifting’ the rites.
Everyone said they enjoyed receiving the
first 3 Rites of: ‘healing’, the ‘bands of
power’ for protection, and the ‘harmony’
rites. Many said that they experienced a
shift in awareness and consciousness
after, and 6 participants have since gone
on to receive all nine rites following the
retreat. (No photos available so example given
with Gerry passing on the “Bands of Power” rite to
a participant at her healing centre)

Day 3
Started with Trevor Allan, who shared with us the fascinating modality of the ‘Divine Healing Hands’.
He generously provided us with more information by donating two books to all participants. Later in
the morning, he led us into a Divine Healing Hands guided meditation and then offered a remarkable
healing to a member of our group - Jenny Cameron. You can find out what her experience was by
going to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbT1bSopf1I

At 12m midday, we contacted Diana May via Skype who had just finished a workshop in Canada. Diana was
previously the President of Therapeutic Touch International Association. We have been fortunate that she has
visited us twice in Australia to present at our conferences and offer workshops, including Intermediate, Advanced
and TT Teachers Workshops.

International News Note: The Therapeutic Touch International Association (TTIA) based in the
USA
On 20/3/14 We received an email from Heike Rahn on behalf of TTIA, who are collecting information on how
the process of recognition for QTTP – Qualified Therapeutic Touch Practitioner and QTTT – Qualified Therapeutic
Touch Teacher could happen internationally. She asked- What do you need in your country? Where do you see
problems? How could they be solved? What do you think is a “must” for recognition in your county? What would be
a “would be helpful”?
This second email followed on the same day.
“As Australia is further ahead in their recognition process than other countries, I have different questions I would like
to ask you:
1. How did you get started with TT in Australia? It would be very interesting for the international community to hear your story. If you would be willing to take the time and write it down, I could send your report to the international community and, if you agree, to have it published in the COOP-Connection, the TTIA newsletter.
2. How did you start your network? What were your problems and how did you solve them? 3. How do you handle your process of recognition for QTTP and QTTT? 4. Is there anything else you think is important and TTIA should also consider?”
“Diane May’s Skype link up from
Canada was really interesting and
stimulating, particularly her sharing
her experiences of the benefits of TT
with a variety of clients, that we were
not aware of, and ideas of other TT
workshops we could consider in
Australia for TT practitioners. Gerry

After consultation with TTAA Teachers and Exec, I made the following response on behalf of TTAA.
Therapeutic Touch in Australia
In Australia we have had National TT competencies for over 10 years, originally developed by
Tasmanian TT teacher Sue Gregory, and written after extensive consultation with members of NH-PAI
(Nurse Healers – Professional Associates International) in the USA, to align to international TT standards
set by NH-PAI /TTIA (Therapeutic Touch International Association). They were very generously donated by
Sue to the Therapeutic Touch Association of Australasia as part of setting up of a national body to house
them, as prior to that, we had individual associations. At the same time, we changed to a new Registered
Training Organization (RTO) - all courses for health professionals in Australia must be offered by RTOs, and
ours is now the Australian College of Vibrational Healing. TTAA then collaboratively developed
comprehensive, competency-based teaching manuals and processes for our Basic TT, Intermediate, TT
Mentorship, Advanced TT and Teachers facilitated by TTAA teacher Jane Hall.
We were fortunate to have Dee come twice to South Australia in 1993 teaching TT Basic and TT
Teacher workshops, and again in 1998 with other teachers from NA-PAI, to offer an Advanced TT course
and TT conference/workshops. It was after an Advanced Therapeutic Touch Conference organized by the
Krieger Kunz Association in South Australia, and presented by Crystal Hawke in 2004, that delegates
gathered and discussed the setting up of a National TT Association in Australia. On behalf of TTAA, I would
like to acknowledge the extraordinary contribution of TT teacher Amy Bartjes and the Krieger Kunz
Association in South Australia, for their efforts in promoting and developing TT in Australia, including
offering these 3 ‘ground breaking’ workshops/conferences.
The Therapeutic Touch Association of Australasia finally came into being in 2006
In 2007, and 2010 Diane May and Professor Cherryanne Hoffmeyer offered Intermediate, Advanced
and TT Teacher courses in Melbourne, Victoria, and presented at one of our conferences. They have been
extremely supportive of TTAA, and in 2010 incorporated our National TT competencies into their teaching
plan to allow participants recognition within the Australian educational system. We followed up the
students enrolled in the Intermediate course to help them complete assessments of the competencies,
including marking their case studies.
TTAA members can go on our accredited TT practitioner listing on the website after successfully
completing the required competencies for Basic TT, Intermediate TT and be enrolled in what is usually a
one year TT Mentorship course. Mentorship may be individual or group, and we tend to use
teleconferencing or Skype link up to access students throughout Australia, and for a small number of
students from New Zealand.
For more than 10 years now Complementary Therapists (CT) have been responding to the
requirements that have arisen from new Government regulations to 'protect the public' from what some
6
call 'charlatans'. They are people who claim a wide variety of healing outcomes for interventions that are
not evidenced based.
Regulation of the practices that may have higher risk like Acupuncture, Chiropractic and Shiatsu
therapies were addressed first. Those with less risk have been more recently addressed. I am very pleased
to be able to say that for the first time, bioenergetic therapies like TT and also Reiki have been accredited
in Australia at a Cert 1V and Diploma level, offering a career pathway for those who are not health
professionals to become one in that specialty area’. In our TT Diploma units, we have integrated both TT
Advanced and a new and exciting unit which addresses Advanced Mentorship. We have not included TT
Teachers as we want them to be only approved and accredited by TTAA. We were very mindful of the
framework and standards set by TT IA so that credit can be given for TT practitioners taught by other TT
teachers in Australia and overseas.
What may be useful for you and the TT community to know, is that TTAA, not the RTO, own the TT
units as a specialty cluster. The RTO will offer or give RPLs (recognition of prior learning) for the supporting
subjects like communication skills, occupational health and safety, basic anatomy, first aid, etc. There are
numerous competency based units that have been developed in the 'Health Training Package' that
students have or can do that support Cert 1V and Diploma qualifications.
Our TT cluster units we can offer to Health professionals who generally do not need a Cert 1V or
Diploma to work in the health industry, as they are already qualified.
I have been in contact with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) Federal
secretary about the amount of professional development hours/points for members who do TT courses.
Nurses are required to have a minimum amount of study 'points' per year for continued registration.
ANMF have responded by inviting us to develop a short computer-based professional development
program about TT. This would enable ANMF members to accrue points, but more importantly for us, would
increase awareness amongst nurses and midwives of Therapeutic Touch in Australia. We will also contact
other health professional bodies with the same request like occupational therapy - who have offered
'points' for TT in the past. We are a small Association, and with the new qualifications our hope is that we
become bigger over the next few years, and bring more TT practitioners to where they are needed – to
support patients/individuals//families in Australian hospitals and in the community.

Heike Rahn has asked if this letter can be published in the next TTIA Newsletter.
I have also offered to present a paper at the TTIA Conference in Seattle on April 17-19th 2015, about our history, and
the developent of the Certificate 1V and Diploma in Energy Healing (Therapeutic Touch) through our RTO at The
Centre fo Vibrational Healing. The Conference organizers have contacted me and indicated that they are very ”keen”
for me to offer a 90 minute concurrent session at the Conference.
