Father’s Corner:

Dear Loving Parishioners,

Love and Peace of Christ!

This week I would like to share with you some

glimpses on Prayer in the light of Fr. Ron Rolheiser.

One classical definition of prayer defines it this way:

“Prayer is lifting mind and heart to God.” That means

lifting up, at any given moment, exactly what’s there

and not what, ideally, might be there. It would be nice

if we always felt warm, reverent, altruistic, full of faith,

chaste, hopeful, connected with others and nature,

happy about who we are and what life has dealt us.

But that isn’t the case.

We all have moments and even seasons of doubt,

anger, alienation, pettiness, boredom, obsession,

and tiredness. Our thoughts are not always holy and

our hearts are not always warm or pure. It’s at times

like this we need prayer and what we need to take to

prayer is, precisely, those bitter thoughts and unholy

feelings.

All thoughts and feelings are valid material for prayer.

Simply put: When you go to pray, lift up what’s inside

of you at that moment. If you are bored, lift up that

boredom; if you are angry, lift up your anger; if you

are tired, lift up that tiredness; if you feel selfish, don’t

be afraid to let God see that.

Our relationship with God is the same. We need to

“pray always” by doing everything out of that kind of

awareness. Moreover, when we do spend time in

formal prayer, we need, like children do, to tell God

exactly how we feel and invite God to deal with that.

Rabbi Abraham Heschel points out how, in prayer,

the great figures of scripture did not always easily

acquiesce to God and say: “Thy will be done!” They

sometimes fought bitterly and

said: “Thy will be changed!”

Prayer lifts mind and heart to God.

May God bless you,

Fr. Peter

St. Max Social Hall Prayer

Thank you, good Lord, for blessing

our St. Max family over the years.

We are truly blessed!

Throughout the entire social hall process

you have been there for us and have

guided us. Through your mercy,

please continue to guide us

and take our project over the finish line.

St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us!

Amen

Want To Make Hay?

Looking for someone to cut and bale between 5 and 10

donation. Please call Leo Gonnering at 571-243-0250 or

email [email protected] for more information.

Social Hall Project Update

Our projected building cost is $1,272,442.76. We have

$1,034,000.00 in the social hall fund. Our shortfall is

approximately $238,443.00. With $47,152.93.00 in

outstanding pledges, and using approximately

$37,000.00 from the church’s general fund, we must

raise an additional $154,290.00 (between now and

during about 120 days of construction) for the diocese

to support asking the St. Ambrose Fund (bank) for a

line of credit (instead of a loan).

Please don’t wait for groundbreaking to make a pledge.

We need your pledges or cash to break ground.

Pledge that you will donate $ ___ when we break

ground or on some other date. The diocese will accept

pledges to secure financing. With a $100,000.00 line

of credit anticipated from the diocese, if all the families

who have not yet donated or pledged, donated

$300.00, we'd have the money to start construction.

Pledge forms are in the gathering space, or better yet,

just send in a big check.

The diocese staff supports our project, but requested

contracts for review and a realistic repayment plan

approved by the finance council. Contract signing

could happen within weeks and blueprints are under

review by the state. With your donations or pledges,

we could break ground within 30 days.

Thank you all for your continued support, financially

and prayerfully.
