This is my chance to thank all the wonderful people who support our charity.

As always I am overwhelmed by the generosity and energy of our supporters.

Their enthusiastic and often imaginative fundraising is an inspiration. Most

people have a story behind their fundraising and it is always touching to hear

of their positive experiences and their wish to show their thanks to the

wonderful staff here at Dudley Group. We have compiled a collage of some

of our fundraisers on page 6.

The 2015 Charity Football Match was an enormous success which raised just

over £12,000. Our Emergency Department team took on the Wolves All Stars

at Stourbridge Football Club. A full report can be found on pages 4 and 5.

Waldron’s Solicitors wrote a record number of Wills in our 2015 Will Fortnight

which raised over £4,500. Will Fortnight is an annual campaign and runs in

October. See our website for further details.

Our four appeals are now up and running. We have added to the well-

established ‘Make our Patients Smile Appeal’ and ‘Cancer: caring for the

patient and the family’. Our appeal ‘Dementia: moving forward with dignity

and respect’ will provide specialist care in a less clinical environment. And

finally we have introduced ‘Rehabilitation: supporting our patients’ journey

back to recovery’. You can find out more about our appeals on page 14.

2016 sees the celebration of 20 years of fundraising. Help me continue my

quest to put the Dudley Group NHS Charity at the forefront of people’s minds.

You can follow us on Twitter and post your fundraising ventures on our

Facebook page; keep spreading the word. Our JustGiving pages make it really

easy to encourage friends and colleagues to donate online; there is also the

opportunity of creating team pages and in memory pages.

As usual I would like to close by thanking everyone who has supported our

Charity in the past and encourage anyone wishing to raise funds in the future

to get in contact with me – I’m here to help.

Charity Annual Report 2015/16 The Dudley Group NHS Charity

September 2015 saw six months of fundraising and organising

culminating in the Annual Charity Football Match and Family Fun

Day which resulted in a fantastic £12,000 raised to support the

Children’s and Adult Emergency Departments.

Emergency Department staff got behind the venture from the onset by

nominating colleagues to join the planning committee. They also raised funds in

the main reception of Russells Hall Hospital to help promote the event. We were

joined on one occasion by Wolves All Star player Jody Craddock (pictured left)

who happily signed autographs and posed for pictures with staff and patients.

Our ED team players even dressed up in their football kit and attended a bucket

collection at Mecca Bingo, Oldbury.

The game was held at Stourbridge FC on Sunday 27 September and was

attended by over 300 visitors. There was plenty of support with many businesses

offering their services free of charge. These include Nigel Cliff Photography and

Black Country Radio. Even Wolfie turned up for a half time penalty shootout.

We were proud to be able to play against the Wolves All Stars. The All Stars

played 8 former first team players; the most for over 10 years. Players included:

Jody Craddock, Seyi George Olofinjana, Dale Rudge and Mel Eves. Our

Emergency Services Team put in a sterling performance but the All Stars finally

won the game with a score of 2-1.

Charity Football Match

Our Emergency

Department is open to

treat patients 24 hours

a day, every single day

of the year.

The proceeds of the

event will go towards

making a positive

difference for our

patients.

Charity Annual Review 2015/16

Santander Bank supported the cause by making a donation of £2,200 in

addition to tirelessly manning the fundraising marquee at the match.

The Steve Bull Foundation donated £1,400 to purchase two iPads for our

paediatric waiting area. The tablets will be attached to a counter by a plastic

movable casing. In addition to being a source of entertainment to distract our

young patients they will also be used as an educational tool where doctors can

explain injuries and ailments to children with the use of medical apps.

The Presentation Dinner Dance held in October raised further funds with a

raffle and charity auction. It was well attended and included Wolves All Stars

Mel Eaves, Dale Rudge and Neil Edwards.

Each year our Emergency Department treats approximately 100,000 patients.

Most of those patients will arrive apprehensive and daunted as to what lies

ahead. Often arriving in a hurry, patients and their families can be disoriented

and unsure. We take great pride that our staff do everything in their power to

put patients at their ease.

Money raised goes to improving the services of the department to enable us to

offer our patients the best experience possible during a really traumatic time.

Looking forward

The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust consists of Russells Hall Hospital

(Acute Hospital), Corbett Outpatient Centre and Guest Outpatient centre.

The charitable funds are attributed in line with the Trust’s Directorate structure.

For example, charitable funds for medicine include Medical Wards, Leukaemia,

Chest Clinic, Diabetes, Rheumatology, District Nurses, Rehabilitation and

palliative care. The funds within Surgery include Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT),

Ophthalmology, Surgical Wards, Breast Cancer Services, Audiology, Surgery and

includes Neurology) and the Community Heart Failure Team.

The Charity fund was established with the Charity Commission using the model

declaration of trust and all funds held on trust as at the date of registration

were classified as unrestricted funds or classed as designated funds under the

main Charity. Subsequent donations and gifts received by the Charity that are

attributable to the original funds are added to those fund balances within the

existing Charity.

The Corporate Trustee fulfils its legal duty by ensuring that funds are spent in

accordance with the objects of each fund. By designating funds the key aim of

the Trustee is to serve the NHS Trust for the public benefit, it respects the

wishes of our generous donors to support patient care and advance the good

health and welfare of patients, visitors and staff. The Trustee have complied

with their duty to have had regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on

public benefit, with due regard for funding decisions to demonstrate public

benefit in the Charity’s work.

Non-Executive Members of the Trust Board are appointed by the Trust

Governors. Executive members of the Board are subject to recruitment by the

NHS Foundation Trust Board. Members of the Trust Board and the Charitable

Funds Committee are not individual trustee under Charity Law but act as agents

on behalf of the Corporate Trustee.

The newly appointed members of the Charitable Funds Committee are provided

with an induction pack which provides information about the Charity, including

the Charitable Funds Committee terms of reference, Trustees’ Annual Report

and Financial Statements, policies and minutes, and information about

trusteeship, including Charity Commission booklet CC3, The Essential Trustee.

Acting for the Corporate

funds, whilst managing and

income.

Ensure that ‘best practice’ is

followed in the conduct of

The Chair gives new members of both the NHS

Foundation Trust Board and the Charitable Funds

Committee a briefing on the current policies and

priorities for the charitable funds.

The Charitable Funds Committee was established in

2006/07 and reports to the Trust Board. The objectives

of the committee are to control the management and

administration of the Charity in accordance with the

Charity’s purposes and in line with the Charitable

Funds Investment Policy. The committee will assist in

the determination of the Charitable Funds Strategy

ensuring that the Charity has all the hallmarks of an

effective charity, as set out in the standards issued by

the Charity Commission.

The accounting records and the day-to-day

administration of the funds are dealt with by the

Finance Department, Trust Headquarters, Russells Hall

Hospital, Dudley, West Midlands, DY1 2HQ.

Working in partnership for public benefit

The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust is the main

beneficiary of the Charity and is a related party by

virtue of being Corporate Trustee of the Charity. The

charities objectives are for any charitable purpose or

purposes relating to the National Health Service,

wholly or mainly for the service provided by The

Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust. The strategy of

the Charity is to work in partnership with the Trust,

ensuring the funds are used to best effect, by deciding

upon the most beneficial way to use charitable funds

with regard to the main activities, objectives, strategies

and plans of the Trust.

Our mission statement is to enhance and further

improve the high quality services provided by the

Trust, providing additional comfort and benefit to its

patients and staff, by focusing fund expenditure on

areas not covered or fully supported by NHS funds.

Charity Annual Review 2015/16

The charity fundraiser continues to forge strong

relationships with members of staff of the hospital

and community donors and fundraisers. Without the

support and co-operation of the wider community

the effective contribution to the Trust would be much

diminished.

In accordance with the objectives and strategy of the

Charity, the Financial Services Manager and the

Treasury Manager regularly meet with Ward

Managers and Department Heads to encourage the

spending of their funds in accordance with the

donor’s wishes; by supporting research and

procedures within the National Health Service,

supporting capital developments and the purchase of

medical equipment, provide training and

development activities for clinical and other staff, to

ensure public benefit.

The Leukaemia Appeal Fund, a separately registered

Charity raises money specifically for the Georgina

Unit at Russells Hall Hospital.

public benefit is by helping patients,

relatives, visitors and staff by:

conditions affecting our patients so that we can

help develop cures and therapies in the future.

purchase of new equipment and building

improvements to deliver better facilities.

Investing in staff to create a caring environment

and improved treatment for our patients, families

and visitors.

Providing direct support to patients by way of

information, networking support and better

facilities.

adds comfort for our cancer patient, encompassing

the well-being of patients, families and carers.

Dementia

patients and families face the challenges of the

future.

Helps patients work towards a better quality of life,

managing pain and adjusting to a new way of life.

The charitable funds also enable consultants, medical

staff, nurses and allied professionals to attend

additional courses which will update them on the new

ideas and modern techniques in their specialties.

These activities enable the Trustee to meet its strategic

priorities of supporting the work of the Trust. The

Trustee’s review of future plans and strategic

objectives have also been infused with the need to

demonstrate public benefit and by the guidance

issued by the Charity Commission.

The Trust Volunteer Service continues to provide

support to patients, visitors and staff with duties such

as ward/clinic hostess services, way finding, helpdesk

assistance, hospital radio and chaplaincy.

The charitable funds have received legacies this year

totalling £12,296. The most significant legacy was for

£10,000 for the benefit of the Georgina unit.

During the year, the funds continued to support a

wide range of charitable and health related activities

benefiting both patients and staff. Charitable funds

were used to purchase much needed medical

equipment, such as:

Vital signs monitors for various wards

Nebulisers
