    Devotional Corner

"During commitment campaigns of the past, church members weencouraged to write and submit brief devotionals to be read eachday by the congregation. Below is a sample devotional written byLila Walker from the 2001 commitment campaign. Please prayerfly consider writing a devotional for our 2015 campaign, and submit to Gloria Ladlee at: (570) 595 -2582."

Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor heighnor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separat

us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

When I was 19 years old, I took some money from my par-ents and ran away from home to a large city about 100 miles awaI felt unloved and unimportant. Three days into my "adventure" Ihad secured a job and a place to live, but on day five, I returned tthe place where I was staying with only 50 cents in my pocket anpayday was two days away ... When I entered the lobby of wherewas staying, I was shocked to see my father and sister. How hadthey found me? My father wasn't there to make me come home,

just wanted to make sure I was OK. He asked if he could take usout for supper. At the restaurant, as he bowed his head to say th

blessing (which was his custom), he began to weep. I knew he wweeping because he had found me; all doubt that I was loved byhim was immediately erased. Did I return home with him? Youbet…

In the years that followed I began to realize the magnitudeGod's love for me, He gently affirmed that I mattered to Him. Itseemed as though He was the first one to show up at every evenin my life, whether I wanted him there or not He paraded manyChristians through my life who simply lived out their faith in Him bfore me, demonstrating to me his unconditional love. I saw God'spresence in their lives even when there were hardships and illnes

as well as in their blessings and joys. The treasure in my life is Jesus. He is my anchor, mystrength, my hope and joy, "Belief in my life came as a result of alot of seeking and watching, yielding and relying on Jesus. I cherish more and more the wonderful "marchers" he used in my life todraw me closer to him.

     All my love, Lila Walker

Prayer: Dear Lord, you were the first one to say I love you. Ysaid it over and over 10 me, and now it's my tum: "/ love you."Thank you for the arms that never grew weary in reaching out tome. Thank you for the "marchers" you have placed in my parade

and help me to be a great "marcher", too. Amen

    Outreach Opportunities

Pastor Todd's messages on thefamily has made an important

impact on my life. Although mychildren are grown now, I amstill and always will be a rolemodel and mentor to them.Looking beyond my immediatefamily, I am also a role model tomy church family. I may noteven be aware of the imact my

words and actions have on those around me. I am certainthat this is true for every generation of God's people. Inthe book of Hebrews the writer says, "Therefore, sincewe are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so

easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance therace marked out for us" (Hebrews 12:1). I have heardmany pastors and Bible scholars say that whenever youfind the word "therefore" in the Bible, you should lookback to the previous verses to find out what the

"therefore" is "there for." In the case of this verse, the tire 11th chapter is a recounting of all of those who by

faith, followed God's leading. All of these people werecommended for their faith. Soon we will all be taking astep of faith, one that requires venturing into a new waof worship. I myself am excited. I am looking forward tbeing a part of the growing process. As believers, we either moving forward or backwards; remaining stagnais never an option. God's perfect will for all of his childis for us to be conformed to the image of his son. Not we can obtain perfection in this life, but our goal shoulbe to follow in his steps. The Apostle Peter says, "To tyou were called, because Christ suffered for you, leavyou an example, that you should follow in his steps"(1Peter 2:21). This week, the Vision Team asks that y

prayerfully consider how God is calling you to walk witHim as we enter into this new direction in the life ofESUMC. Thank you for your faithfuness to pray andserve God in whatever capacity he is leading.Cathy Saunders / Vision Team Member
