Paul’s Joy and Crown

Philippians 4:1

Therefore, my beloved brethren whom I long to see, my joy and crown, so stand firm in the Lord, my beloved.

People Who will Be the Lord’s at His Coming

1Thessalonians 2:19

For who is our hope or joy or crown of exultation? Is it not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His coming?

Standing Firm, Striving for the Gospel, With End Times Hope

Philippians 4:1

Therefore, my beloved brethren whom I long to see, my joy and crown, so stand firm in the Lord, my beloved.

True Gospel Unity

Philippians 1:27

Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ; so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

The Need for the Same “Mindset”

Philippians 4:2

I implore Euodia and I implore Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. (NKJV)

Philippians 2:2

make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.

The Struggle for the Gospel is Key

Philippians 4:3

Indeed, true comrade, I ask you also to help these women who have shared my struggle in the cause of the gospel, together with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.

Joy Grounded in God’s Grace Through the Gospel

Philippians 4:4

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!

Joy in the Lord

Isaiah 29:19

The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

Christians are Forbearing and Not Self-seeking

Philippians 4:5

Let your forbearing spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near.

We are to be Like Jesus

1Peter 2:23

and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously;

Philippians 4:6

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

God’s Peace is a “Garrison” Around the Heart of the Believer

Philippians 4:7

And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

A True Spiritual Peace and Unity

Ephesians 4:2, 3

with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing forbearance to one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Applications

Reconciled Enemies

Romans 5:10

For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

2Thessalonians 3:16

Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance. The Lord be with you all!
