Objective

Document procedure and guidelines to enable Troop 5 Quartermasters

responsibilities for managing Shed and Trailer in support of Scout Oath, Scout

Motto and Scout Law.

Why

To reduce waste, eliminate redundancy and maximize value of resources to scouts.

To assure clean, safe and sanitary environment.

To set a standard of acceptable practices.

To teach scouts to plan for camping/troop needs.

To enable scouts to manage resources.

This is your troop and up to you to assure

we learn and move forward!

Plan

It is the responsibility of Scout Leaders (SPL,ASPL, PL )

to effectively manage troop resources through proper

planning. This includes identifying equipment and resource

requirements needed for campouts and special events

within a reasonable period of time to the Scoutmaster or

Assistant Scoutmasters.

Roles and Responsibilities

Senior Patrol Leader

• Communicate TROOP special equipment requirements to Troop Quartermasters two weeks before campout.

• Communicate required equipment needs to SM/ASM/PL/PQM at least two weeks before campout.

• Periodically inspect Shed, Trailers and patrol boxes especially before loading an unloading.

• Identify broken or defective equipment to SM/ASM.

• Assure Church Storage Area is clean(ie leave no trace) inside and out.

• Assure equipment and supplies are returned to correct location in Shed.

• Assure borrowed equipment is returned.

• Assure Trailer is loaded before campout and unloaded after campout.

Patrol Leader

• Assure your patrols special equipment requirements are provided to Patrol Quartermaster two weeks before campout.

• Inspect patrol boxes into trailer.

• Assure patrol borrowed equipment is returned.

• Assure Trailer is loaded before campout and unloaded after campout.

• Assure replacement is provided original procedure and signs it.

Troop Quartermaster Master Responsibilities• Lead the Loading and unloading of Trailer and Shed which includes soliciting the

help of Patrol Quartermasters and other scouts.

• Assure stored items are returned to correct shed location.

• Saw and Axe box: Assure saws, axes, shovels are stored properly and tools are sharp.

• Apply leave no trace for the Shed and Trailer storage areas.

• Maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions of Troop equipment and supplies.– Troop Quartermaster will be responsible to clean any unclean supplies in

shed or trailer.– Assure dirty laundry provided to SM or ASM the Monday after campout if not

earlier and the laundry is returned.– Assure broken or defective equipment is placed in container and reported to

SPL.

• Assure basic troop supplies for patrols and notify SPL for: Propane, water containers, patrol boxes, lamp wicks, lamp globes, trash bags, saw/axe box, rope box etc.(this excludes any food for patrol meals which is maintained by assigned scout).

Troop Quartermaster Master Responsibilities(cont):• Submit required supplies listing to Senior Patrol Leader(SPL) at least

two weeks before campout(ie one week after unload).

• Inspect patrol boxes prior to campsite departure-ie before loading onto trailer.

• Patrol boxes are subject to SPL/ PL/SM/ASM inspection.

• Assure necessary supplies for the specific Scout Camp Out excluding meal are loaded based on direction of SPL/SM/ASM. If a patrol requires specific equipment or resources not contained in patrol boxes patrol quartermaster is responsible to manage.

• Assure Trailer is loaded Monday before campout and unloaded Monday after campout. Assure laundry provided to SM/ASM or other volunteer. Assure laundry is returned Monday after campout.

• Maintain Inventory and Sign out for any equipment borrowed and notify SPL for any equipment not returned by due date. 10Troop 5 Shed and Trailer

Patrol Quartermasters Responsibilities• Assure Patrol box checklist is maintained.

• Assure Patrol has cleaning supplies(dish pan, soap, rags, towels and scrubbers).

• Assure dirty laundry(towels, rags) is placed in laundry bag.

• Assure no food or dirty equipment is stored in patrol box. – Please note any dirty equipment found will be the sole responsibility of the patrol quartermaster to clean(ie

no delegation).

• Assure kitchen cutlery and utensils are stored appropriately.

• Report any damage or worn equipment requiring replacement to Patrol Leader and SPL.

• Maintain the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of Patrol Box including equipment and supplies.

• Assure borrowed equipment is returned to Troop Quartermaster.

• Assure Patrol box surfaces and cutting boards are cleaned with soap/water and then bleach wipes or other disinfectant.

• Propane and all equipment stored safely in patrol boxes.

• Campout specific supplies(ie dutch ovens, grills , patrol flags). 11Troop 5 Shed and Trailer Guidelines ver 2012

Scoutmaster

• Assure safe use of equipment.

• Assure replacement or repair of defective equipment.

• Periodically inspect shed and trailer.

• Obtain and replenish equipment as required and approved.
