Moving Forward

At the special business meeting on May 22, the congregation approved the recommendation from the Board of Stewards to change the name of the church. This is an important moment in the life of the church, as we seek to be as e!ective as possible in living out who God is calling us to be in the next phase of our life together.

As we might expect, there are di!erences of opinion as to whether this is a necessary or wise move. Some are grieving; others are disappointed and even angry. Some are excited and eager to take the next steps.

In moving forward, we need to focus on the fact that what unites us is so much more significant than what divides us. We all agree that we want to see Christ’s kingdom advanced in our neighborhood and world. We agree that we are called to be a witness to the world around us as to who God is and what he is doing in the world. We may di!er on how best to do that.

In light of that, let’s pray that the Lord will protect the unity of this church. Unity doesn’t mean that we will all agree on everything. Rather, it means we seek to focus on the most important aspects of our calling and work together to advance them. People who see things di!erently about the best course of action are brothers and sisters with whom we disagree, not enemies or opponents.

We need to remember that the most important witness to the world around us is love. Jesus said his followers will be known by their love for each other (John 13:35).

Let’s commit to moving forward in accordance with God’s calling – together!

Sta� - Out and About

Trinity’s Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries, Koby Radli!e, attended a conference on how to help youth integrate faith into every aspect of their lives. Director of Worship and Music Ebony Ramquist attended a seminar called “Kingdom Culture School” that focused on how to experience and facilitate more e!ective kingdom living. Pastor Peter has been meeting with representatives of Converge North Central who are helping us think about the culture needed for greater ministry e!ectiveness.

Trinity Talk Notable June birthdays and anniversaries: Happy birthday to Dorothy Nelson who will celebrate 95 years on June 26. Let’s go to the fair! Mark your calendars now! On Sunday, July 17, we will be holding our worship service at the Ramsey County Fair (2020 White Bear Avenue, Maplewood). We will have one service at 10:00 am, and then you are free to enjoy the county fair. Watch for more details in next month’s newsletter.

Fall retreats: It’s not too early to begin planning for the Men’s and Women’s fall retreats at Trout Lake Camp. The Men’s retreat is scheduled for September 16-18, and Fall Refreshment, the Women’s retreat, happening September 23-25. Brochures are available in the church oJce or you may visit Trout’s website at www.troutlakecamps.org for more information and to register.

“Walk this Way!” to Vacation Bible School!

With summer here, so is VBS. This year’s dates are June 13-17, from 9:00 am - Noon. Register online before Monday, June 6, with discounted cost of $15/child. After that registration will increase to $20/child. Visit our website, at www.tbcmn.org, click on “Ministries” and then “Vacation Bible School,” to register. Volunteers are STILL needed in order for this year’s VBS to be a success. If you are interested, or need more information, please talk to Director of Children’s Ministries Mindy Boe.

Trinity Connections plans summer picnic

Mark your calendar for Thursday, June 23 and join us (noon to 2:30 pm) at Oasis Park in Roseville for this annual event. Bring a salad or dessert to share, and join us for a great time of fellowship. Rain or shine--there are no worries about the weather. We've reserved one of Roseville's new, million-dollar park buildings. Oasis Park is located at 1700 County Rd. C2 West, Roseville, 55113. A sign-up sheet will be at the Trinity welcome desk beginning Sunday, June 5.

Church Name Change Process

At a special business meeting on Sunday, May 22, the congregation voted to approve the recommendation to change the name of the church. The vote exceeded the 2/3 majority requirement established by the Board of Stewards to pass. The Name Change Assessment Committee will now meet to begin to identify the process by which suggested names will be gathered as well as conduct other research. They will also consult with representatives from Converge North Central and other churches that have been through this process. Please pray that the Lord will continue to lead, guide, and bless us as a congregation through this process, and that we will be faithful in following where He leads us.

The Sandwich Project Earlier this spring we participated in "A Di!erent Kind of Food Fight" - a state-wide coordinated e!ort to collect food and funds in support of local food shelves. The resources we collected (Trinity generously

gave $1,550 and 2,077 food items) were designated to the Eastside Salvation Army Foodshelf. An honest question, pondered by many who participated is, "What happens the other days of the year?" Well, The Sandwich Project was established with the other days in mind. The starting goal was to help feed 150 homeless people as many times a year as possible, with the ultimate goal of doing it everyday of the year. Currently, The Sandwich Project is helping to feed about 4,500 people per week through various shelters and food shelves! The NET team invites you to join forces with Trinity's VBS kids to provide at least 700 sandwiches for hungry people in our community. The children will be challenged to bring an o!ering each day during VBS, with a goal of $500 for the week - the amount needed to purchase the sandwich ingredients. NOW THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN! On Sunday, June 26, after the morning worship services, we'll gather together in the Social Hall to put together the 700 sandwiches. You can sign up as an individual or involve your entire family to work together as a team. All you need to do is show up - ready to work. All the supplies will be provided! And after we work up an appetite making all those sandwiches, we'd like to enjoy a picnic lunch together. SO - you'll need to pack your own picnic lunch (preferably using your own picnic cooler since refrigeration is limited) and bring a blanket or lawn chairs. We'll enjoy a time of warm fellowship after serving our neighbors together. So, sign up today through Sunday, June 19, at the Welcome Desk in the foyer.

Trinity Cares - Join the Team

Caring for one another is one of the most important things a church is called to do. This responsibility falls not just on the pastor or sta!, but on the body as a whole. At Trinity, one of the most important ways we seek to do that is through the Trinity Cares program.

Coordinator of Congregational Care Rod Larson has put together a team of people who feel a sense of call and gifting to engage in visitation of those who are sick, shut in, grieving, or otherwise in need of a loving presence. These volunteers have all undergone training from an expert in pastoral care. Rod and Pastor Peter meet weekly to coordinate visits and share reports of those in need.

Trinity “paints the town” This summer members of Trinity will be taking on the painting of two homes in our neighborhood. Through the resources of Handyworks at the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches, Trinity will have one or two teams of 15-30 people working to paint a couple of homes on the weekend of August 6-7. Although the registration deadline for teams has passed, we

still need people to serve as alternates. If you would be interested in being an alternate please contact NET or drop us a note in the suggestion box at the welcome center. This is an exciting opportunity to go out into our neighborhood and spread the love of the Lord we serve.

A Summer Ministry Opportunity Summer is here, and we are thrilled to be given the opportunity to run our “Wednesday Fun” program again this year! Like last year, this is an opportunity to minister to children and youth from Trinity and Trinity KaRen churches. We prepare a meal, share a lesson/game, then enjoy the outdoors with various sports and games. The program began Wednesday, May 11, and will run most Wednesday evenings (6:00 - 8:00 pm) throughout the summer. Anyone is welcome to join for the meal and evening activities as we serve kids of all ages. Volunteers are needed to make this happen! Need to make an announcement?

Some new guidelines Moving forward, all announcement requests for either the Classic or Contemporary service must be submitted to Ebony Ramquist two weeks prior to the desired announcement date. Once a request

is received, confirmation of whether the announcement will be made during the service will be sent. By receiving all announcements in advance, the sta! can better determine which announcements should be given each week within the time frame of the service. Please keep in mind that not all announcements will be included in the services - some announcements may be more appropriate for the Trinity Times, our monthly newsletter, or the Trinity Talk bulletin board in the Mustard Seed Café.

Serving with Converge Worldwide in Monterrey, Mexico The Johnsons live in Monterrey, Mexico where they serve the churches of the Mexican Baptist Convention in northeast Mexico. They are involved in ministries to encourage pastors, pastor’s wives, as well as developing leadership teams to strengthen the churches.
