MORNING WORSHIP

We Enter Into God's Presence The Prelude Two Settings of "Christ ist Erstanden (Christ is Arisen)" Bach/Schroeder Although you are not present physically, you will be invited to stand when able, and to be seated when necessary. Worship is participative and not passive. God has designed us to be physical creatures and sometimes our hearts and minds will follow our posture.

The Striking of the Hour

• The Call to Worship Zephaniah 3:17; Isaiah 55:6–7 Mr. Pendley

Minister: The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty One Who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing.

All: Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts;

let him return to the LORD, that He may have compassion on him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

• Congregation, please stand as able

The Silent Meditation upon Entering the Sanctuary

Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to Thy bosom fly,While the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high:

Hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm of life is past;Safe into Thy haven guide, O receive my soul at last!

— CHARLES WESLEY, 1740

My sin—O the bliss of this glorious thought!— My sin, not in part, but the whole,Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

— HORATIO SPAFFORD, 1873

• The Hymn No. 699 Like a River Glorious wye valley

Like a river glorious is God's perfect peace, over all victorious in its bright increase;perfect, yet it floweth fuller ev'ry day, perfect, yet it groweth deeper all the way.

Refrain: Stayed upon Jehovah, hearts are fully blest, finding, as He promised, perfect peace and rest.

Hidden in the hollow of His blessed hand, never foe can follow, never traitor stand;not a surge of worry, not a shade of care, not a blast of hurry, touch the spirit there. [Refrain]

Ev'ry joy or trial falleth from above, traced upon our dial by the Sun of Love.We may trust Him fully all for us to do; they who trust Him wholly find Him wholly true.

• The Confession of Our Faith The Apostles' Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost; born of the Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

• The Prayer of Adoration and Invocation

• The Lord's Prayer

Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

• The Doxology old hundredth

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav'nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost: Amen.

We Receive Cleansing in Christ The Morning Prayers

The Call to Confession

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. For it is He Who says, “I, I am He Who blots out your transgressions for My own sake, and I will not remember your sins.” [1 John 1:9; Isaiah 43:25] The Silent, Personal, Prayer of Confession

The Responsive Prayer of Confession

Minister: Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your steadfast love; according to Your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. All: Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. Minister: For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. All: Against You, You alone, have I sinned, and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are justified in Your sentence and blameless when You pass judgment. Minister: You desire truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart. All: Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Minister: Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. All: Do not cast me from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. The Assurance of God's Pardon

Child of God, hear the good news! The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will He keep His anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does He remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to His children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust. [Psalm 103:8-14]

We Receive God's Word

• The Old Testament Lesson Psalm 32

Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. 3 For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. 5 I acknowledged my sin to You, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. 6 Therefore let everyone who is godly offer prayer to You at a time when You may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him. 7 You are a hiding place for me; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with shouts of deliverance. 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. 9 Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you. 10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord. 11 Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

• The New Testament Lesson John 8:1-11

1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 Early in the morning He came again to the temple. All the people came to Him, and He sat down and taught them. 3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. 5 Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” 6 This they said to test Him, that they might have some charge to bring against Him. Jesus bent down and wrote with His finger on the ground. 7 And as they continued to ask Him, He stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 And once more He bent down and wrote on the ground. 9 But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before Him. 10 Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”

• The Hymn No. 499 Rock of Ages Cleft For Me toplady

Rock of Ages, cleft for me let me hide myself in Thee;let the water and the blood, from Thy riven side which flowed,be of sin the double cure, cleanse me from its guilt and pow'r.

Not the labors of my hands can fulfil thy law's demands;could my zeal no respite know, could my tears for ever flow, all for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone.

Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to Thy cross I cling;naked, come to Thee for dress; helpless, look to Thee for grace;

foul, I to the Fountain fly; wash me, Savior, or I die.

• The Sending

Go forth from this place to a field ripe unto harvest. Do that which He has told is good in His sight and what He requires: act justly; love mercy; and walk humbly with Him. Lead a life worthy of the calling. Speak boldly of your Savior ~ the Holy Spirit is with you. And rest in the knowledge that you are His beloved. These are unpreceded times: rest in your Savior, receive all the benefits that are yours, and may your light shine in the darkness.

• The Benediction of God’s Grace and the Congregation’s AMEN

Minister: And may grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, descend and rest in your heart until the day breaks and all these shadows flee away.

People: AMEN.
