NARTHEX & GATHERING SPACE DEDICATION

The new gathering space at Trinity was dedicated last Sunday, August 11, at the conclusion of the 10:45 a.m. Sanctuary service. Adding almost 900 square feet to the south end of the building’s Center Street side, the room nearly doubles the size of that worship entrance, adding an automatic door, outside lighting, and a handicapped-accessible restroom on the ground level.

The old narthex was fitted with a new ceiling and lights, as well as glass windows replacing two of the four wooden doors facing Center Street. An entrance hallway from the Church Home to the north was also up-graded with new skylights, paint and carpet.

Architect David Augler of Felty-Heinlen in Mansfield drew up the plans in consultation with the congregational building committee of Bill Chandler, Larry Franks, Cindy Funk, Jim Prinz, Bob Wendling, Merle Witmer, and Pastor Mitchell. The firm also designed the most recent expansion to the building a decade ago.

Mike Mowry of Mowry Construction and Engineering in Ashland, the lead contractor, oversaw the construc-tion and upgrades.

The project was funded in the fall and winter months by a congregational pledge campaign led by Dee Pinkley and Linda Zehner.

Our 21st-annual Choir Camp was held August 5 through 8, the last big children’s event of the summer. Eighty-two children (including a number from other churches) and two dozen youth and adult leaders gath-ered around the theme “O Sing to the Lord a New Song,” participating in singing, stories and crafts, Creative Movement, Montessori Good Shepherd, handchimes, drum circle, and Orff instruments. Over $350 was raised for our service project, medicine for the Trinity Ethiopia Medical Mission in February. Thank you to all who helped make it a great week!

Coming Up...

NEW PARENTING CLASS (Learn To Confidently Teach Your Kids About God) At 9:30 am, in the Trinity Room on Sundays, beginning August 25, Pastor Jeff will offer a 12-week class called: IT STARTS AT HOME. Our kids can grow up to be smart, athletic, popular and polite and still lack a relationship with Christ. The few hours they spend in church each week can be helpful, church alone can’t teach them. We must start at home. Many of us feel ill-equipped to develop the faith of our children. In this course we’ll explore biblical and tangible ways that parents can build a lasting legacy of faith for our children. Each session includes video interviews with everyday parents talking about their own doubts, fears and desires. Call Pastor Jeff or go to our Website, for more information.

First Place 4 Health A new school year is starting. Are you ready to live a more healthy life? Join us on Wednesday nights at 6:30 pm in Meeting Room A for a diet and discipleship group, beginning August 28! First Place 4 Health will help you create balance in the four core areas of your life – emotional, spiritual, men-tal and physical. Motivated to Wellness, an all-new Bible study, invites members and participants to discover hope and motivation that will sustain them through a lifetime of fitness and good health. Please contact Pam Prezioso or go to our website for complete details.

ATTENTION 3rd-6th Graders!! You are invited to join Trinity's Beginning Handchime Choir. Practice is 4:00-4:45 on Wednesdays, starting September 4. If you plan to come, leave a message at the church office (419-289-2126) or call Kathleen Wendling (419-289-0788) before September 4. You do not need to know how to read music. Come and enjoy playing in a Handchime Choir.

Montessori Good Shepherd Program: Registration is open for the program for children 3-6 yrs. old. It is a full Montessori Educational Program with certified staff. We are in session Monday through Friday mornings. Sponsorships are available. Call Lyn Sorenson 419-685-4048 or stop in the church office for a packet.

Summer Sunday School (Sun. 9:30-10:30; All Youth) Today is our final session of Summer

The story of Adam and Eve was being carefully explained in the children's Sunday School class. Following the story, the children were asked to draw pictures that would illustrate the story. Lit-tle Bobby drew a picture of a car with three peo-ple in it. In the front seat was a man and in the back seat, a man and a woman. The teacher was at a loss to understand how this illustrated the lesson of Adam and Eve. Little Bobby was prompt with his explanation. "This is God driv-ing Adam and Eve out of the garden!"
