I would like to thank everyone who supported me on my walk to raise

money for Velindre Hospital on behalf of our colleague and friend,

Mr Ian Williams.

It was a staggering amount of money we managed to raise (£900),

which will help support people with lung cancer at the hospital.

Dear Parents and Carers

As it comes to end of a very busy term I can’t believe how much we have packed in. The amazing achievements of all our pupils in the Paralympics alternative sports week, the Keys to Success Assemblies and our leavers ball have made it an emotional end of term but a very special one. Some of you may have noticed that we are giving the entrance to the school and the foyer a new look. Thank you for your contribution to our recent questionnaire we will continue to act on any ideas from you in the forth coming months.

In September we welcome our new Principal, Mr Ian Elliott who will be keen to meet with as many parents as possible to gain your views.

We have already set a date of September 14th for a ‘Meet the Principal event and further details will follow. We are all looking forward to working with Ian as he leads us into a new chapter in Trinity Fields history as Principal number 4!

We have also said goodbye to Tracey Killengray, TA , Gavin Williams, class teacher and Lorraine Lewis, TA. We thank them for the contribution they have made to our team and wish them every success in the future.

Students from the Learning Pathway, 14 - 19 years of age, en-

joyed another successful Careers Week. Each student had an

opportunity to choose their own activities and each gained

experience and skills training in a variety of activities ranging

from decorating to catering.

Careers Wales were involved in this year’s programme, providing

delightful activities in the afternoon which included cake

decorating and drum playing.

There was also an Open Forum on Friday, which allowed parents

and students opportunity to meet and chat to representatives

from Cross Keys College, Elite, who support students on work

experience and Real Opportunities.

The Class of ‘58 This term we had the pleasure of welcoming the band ‘Class of ‘58’ to Trinity Fields.

The entire school had the opportunity to hear, dance and play along to their

fantastic music. The students and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we

look forward to seeing them again in the future.

The Leprosy Mission is an international Christian organisation working with people affected by

leprosy. They provide treatment, health care training and support for sufferers and their

families in the Third World. We can help by collecting used stamps and old postcards and

sending them into school. (Stamps need to be cut from the envelope with a small border left

around them – if the perforations around a stamp are damaged they become worthless.) These

are then sold by the Leprosy Mission to stamp collectors around the world to raise money for

their cause.

In doing this we will help our pupils with their RE programme of study when they are

encouraged to become ‘global citizens’ responding to the needs of others. It will also be

contributing to our school’s ‘eco’ policy by getting monetary value from items that would

normally be put in the bin.

So please start collecting and when you have a number please send them

into school. Our senior pupils will help to put them together to send off.

Secret Surprises Spring into Finals A Young Enterprise company from Trinity Fields School & Resource Centre

took part in the National Finals of the Young Enterprise Competition at the

College of Music and Drama Cardiff. The event was held on Monday June

18th and Secret Surprises was one of thirteen schools taking part in the

competition. The schools came from each corner of Wales and every school

worked hard selling products, speaking to judges about their learning

experiences and giving a presentation of five minutes duration. Secret

Surprises did very well, with Catherine Baker winning the ‘Sir John Moore’s

Award’ for the best overall company worker for the entire Welsh region.

The other company members from Trinity Fields School were Melissa Curtis,

Company Manager, Emma Petherick, Finance Officer and Kieran Haire,

Sales.

Each company member did the school proud and all the students have gained

valuable skills and experiences this year from all the products they have

made and sold around school.

Class 2R have been learning about people who help us in the local

community. This involved meeting and talking to our local fire

service and community support police officer. Pupils enjoyed finding

out how they help us and how we can keep safe. Here’s a big

During the week of July 2nd 2012 Trinity Fields celebrated the

Paralympics with a whole week dedicated to learning about athletes,

countries, Paralympic sports, national anthems, national foods and the

Paralympic values. Each class was given a country to represent during the

week and our generous sponsors Orangebox produced fantastic flags,

banners, class posters for each class to use in the Opening ceremony and

parade.

The Opening Ceremony took place on Tuesday, the whole school paraded

around the school with flags and banners being waved, music playing and

with all the pupils generating excitement and enthusiasm for the

Paralympics.

The Paralympic events started on Wednesday with a water polo competition

in the school swimming pool. Two pupils were chosen to compete and

represent their country. The water polo competition was a great success

and demonstrated out pupil’s great courage to achieve their goals.

We were lucky to be visited by Paralympian David Roberts, who came to

support our water polo and Paralympic event. David cheered on our

competitors in the pool and also visited the pupils in the classes, during

which he showed pupils and the staff his Paralympic medals that he has

won.

The Paralympic day itself came on Thursday were pupils took part in seated

volleyball, goal ball, high jump, long jump, archery, fencing, javelin, sprint

races, table tennis, cycling and sensory track activities. The equipment that

was so generously made by Orangebox was unbelievable and all the pupils

enjoyed using their new, exciting events. The pupils clearly enjoyed

competing and all were able to achieve throughout the day.

The day’s activity ended with a closing and medal ceremony in the hall, in

front of the Orangebox Medal podium. Pupils were able to celebrate their

achievements with their friends by receiving medals in front of the whole

school. All pupils who took part in the week’s events received a certificate

of achievement. Well done Trinity Fields we were perfectly Paralympic!

Over this academic year some of the Learning Pathways pupils at Trinity Fields

have taken part in the Sky Sports Fitness Scheme. The scheme involved pupils

participating in and understanding different aspects of health and fitness. The

pupils worked really hard to understand and learn about why it is important to

keep fit and healthy. They have learned how to safely set out equipment, how to

be a coach and all about what happens to their bodies when they exercise.

The group were rewarded for their hard work by a visit from Sky Sports Star

and former South African rugby player Thinus Delport who came to school to

present the pupils with their Sky Sport T-Shirts, wrist bands and congratulate

them on all their hard work.

Last term Trinity Fields School and pupils were part of the Caerphilly School

Olympic Torch Relay. This activity involved a replica Olympic torch being passed

from school to school by pupils walking a set route. The Olympic Torch was

passed to Trinity Fields by Coed Y Brain School pupils. The welcome they

received from Trinity Fields pupils was a credit to the school as all classes lined

the taxi area with flags and banners to welcome the torch in celebration. The

torch was accepted by Trinity Fields school council.

The following day a group of Trinity Fields pupils were set with the challenge of

walking from Trinity Fields to Lewis Girls School. The pupils who took part were a

mixture of Foundation Phase, Key Stage 2, 3, 4 and Tertiary pupils to represent

the whole school equally. The pupils behaved exceptionally well and showed

determination to complete the walk, which was quite a considerable way for some

of our pupils. All pupils held the torch and enjoyed being part of their community.
