Tidings 2
Greetings to you in the strong name of our savior Jesus Christ!
Waiting, it sure is something that we have been getting really, really good over the past several weeks. Waiting is
something that we seem to identify with the season of Advent, it is during those four week that launches us into Christmas
and we have such a great time celebrating. We like the season of waiting that comes with Advent, we like it because its
brief, and there are gifts involved, and the time of anticipating is accompanied with great excitement!
However, there is another season in the life of the church that is accompanied with waiting too, one that sadly we just do
not give that much attention to, and that is the time of waiting that is in between Easter and Pentecost. In Acts 1:4-5 we
read – "On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait
for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days,
you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."
here is not much focus on Pentecost while it equally aligns with Christmas and Easter as an important time in the life of
the church yet, it receives the least of attention of the three. Well, we give it one day a year, and we pullout the red and
maybe talk briefly about it, but that is as far as it goes (this is where I bow by head and am greatly troubled). The church
is very lacing when it comes to its understanding of Pentecost and is also lacing in the understanding of the Holy Spirit
(this is where I bow my head and am even more troubled). For a good long period of time the church has had little to no
understanding of the Holy Spirit, and to push that further, they do not have the understanding about how vitality important
the Holy Spirit is in the life of the believer and I the church.
During this period of isolation, God has been revealing to me that during the time and season that we are in we need the
Holy Spirit. It has been during a great period of praying, reading and studying scripture, and listening that God has made
this message plain and clear that it is time that we become immersed in the Holy Spirit as a church. We are being called to
ne the church of the Book of Acts, we are being called to become open to the moving and the operation of the Holy Spirit
in the life of our church and in our own lives. God is calling us to step out and to embrace the gifts of the Holy Spirit and
to operate in them. God is calling for us to place aside all of our unbelief and misunderstanding of the Holy Spirit, and to
welcome the Holy Spirit into our church and into our lives.
Therefore, during the month of May I will be preaching a sermon series on the Book of Acts, and leading a weekly Bible
Study on the Holy Spirit, I encourage each of you to use this time as an opportunity to get plugged in to the power!
Continue to Pray in the Spirit,
Pastor Mark
