GEMEINSAM DURCH DICK UND DÜNNTogether through thick and thin

Kitzbühel ist nicht nur Schauplatz für die Elite, zahlreiche Triath-

leten und Triathletinnen aus ganz Europa stellten an diesem Wo-

chenende ihr Talent unter Beweis. Aber nicht nur jede Menge Ta-

lent, auch sehr viel Ehrgeiz und harte Trainingseinheiten stecken

in den rund 817 Athleten, die die Herausforderung annahmen. Die

sogenannte AGE Group vereint Burschen, Mädels, sowie Männer

und Frauen von 16 bis über 80 Jahren. In insgesamt 28 verschie-

denen Altersklassen (5 Wellen) stürzten sich die Ersten bereits

um 7:30 am Morgen bei traumhaftem Wetter in den Schwarzsee.

Nach 1,5 Kilometer Schwimmen, ging’s aufs Rad, wo insgesamt

720 Höhenmeter auf 39,4 Kilometern zu bewältigen waren. Mitten

unter ihnen natürlich auch zahlreiche Starter aus Österreich, die

großartigen AGE Sport boten. Der Jenbacher Thomas Steger (M20)

ging als führender in die Laufstrecke und wurde von zahlreichen

Zuschauern neben der Strecke kräftig angefeuert. Den Franzosen

Risser Jean ließ er weit hinter sich und holte mit einem Respektab-

stand den Heimsieg und somit auch den Europameister-Titel. Sehr

stark war auch der Österreicher Norbert Dürauer (M25), der es als

Dritter aufs Stockerl schaffte. Bei den Damen sicherte sich Simone

Fürnkranz (W35) den Titel und sorge mit Sylvia Gehnböck (W35) für

einen rot-weiß-roten Doppelsieg.

Stark vertreten waren vor allem die zahlreichen Teilnehmer, als

auch die begeisterten Fans, aus Großbritannien.

Stolz dürfen natürlich auch alle Teilnehmer und Teilnehmerin-

nen sein, die die Olympische Distanz bewältigten. Vor allem den

älteren, die nach wie vor mit Spaß dabei sind und bemerkenswerte

Leistungen abliefern! – Kompliment und Hut ab!

Kitzbühel is more than just the scene for the european elite athle-

tes. The numerous triathletes from across Europe presented this

weekend and showcased their talents in the AGE Group Categories.

But further more, much ambition and hard workouts brought in

the approximately 800 athletes who challenged themselves. The

so-called AGE Group brings together boys, girls, men and women

from age 16 to over 80 years. In a total of 28 different age classes

(5 waves) the fi rst started by jumping into the Schwarzsee already

at 7:30 in the morning with fantastic weather conditions. After 1.5

kilometer swim, they went on to the bike course, where they had to

beat a total of 720 meters of altitude on the 39.4 kilometer course.

A lot of Austrian athletes participated and showed great sport

performances. The Tyrolian Thomas Steger (M20) took the leading

position after the fi rst transition from swimming to cycling and

was cheered by many spectators besides the course. He mana-

ged to leave Jean Risser (FRA) far behind and fi nished fi rst with a

respectful time difference to Risser. Austrian Norbert Dürauer (M25)

fi nished at place 3 in the AGE Group M25. In the women‘s race Si-

mone Fürnkranz (W35) took over the gold medal and brought home

a double victory with Sylvia Gehnböck (W35).

Participants from 40 european countries competed, Great Britan

sent the biggest number of athletes after Austria. Finishing the

olympic distance race is a big performance especially for those

who be named triathlon pioneers and did push the sports for deca-

des now. Complements and impressiv!!

ITALIENS GOLDSTAFFELITALY‘S GOLDEN RELAY TEAM

Wir blicken auf eine gelungene Triathlon EM in Kitzbühel zurück. Die Mixed Teambewerbe, die demnächst olym-pisch werden, bildeten das Finale der erfolgreichen EM-Tage. Alle Teilnehmer hatten bereits einen Einzelbewerb in den Beinen und kämpften dennoch mit voller Kraft für das Team.Um 13 Uhr gingen die Junioren Mixed Teams ins Rennen. 2 Stunden später waren die Elite-Teams an der Reihe. Je 2 Frauen und 2 Männer mussten einen Super-Sprint absol-vieren. Nach 200 m Schwimmen, 8,6 km Radeln und 2,4 km Laufen übergab ein Athlet an seinen Teamkollegen.Österreich stellte sowohl bei den Jungen als auch bei der Elite ein starkes Team. „Wir sind so gut aufgestellt wie noch nie. Wenn wir alle 4 unsere Leistung abrufen kön-nen, ist alles drin!“, so Lukas Hollaus vom österreichischen Elite-Team. Lisa Perterer musste aus gesundheitlichen Gründen absagen und wurde durch Teresa Moser ersetzt.Die junge Truppe mit Theresa Feuersinger, Philip Hor-warth, Sara Skardelly and Lukas Pertl legte vor und sicher-te Platz 5 für rot-weiß-rot. Um 15 Uhr beim Elite Relay stie-gen die Temperaturen auf 30° C. Die Italiener kamen am besten mit der Hitze zurecht und siegten beim Elite Relay mit der Bestzeit von 1:38:20. Sara Vilic, Alois Knabl, Teresa Moser und Lukas Hollaus erzielten Rang 8 für Österreich.

We look back on a successful Triathlon EC in Kitzbühel. The four exciting days were closed up by the mixed relay teams, a discipline which will soon be part of the Olympic Games. All participants competed for the second time this weekend and still gave everything. At 1 pm the mixed junior race started. 2 hours later, it was the pros’ turn. 2 men and 2 women had to fi nish a super-sprint per each. After 200 meters of swimming, 8,6 km biking and 2,4 km running, one athlete passed on to his teammate.Austria presented 4 strong juniors as well as a strong elite team. “We have never been so well positioned in the past. If we are able to deliver a good performance, everything is possible!” so Lukas Hollaus from the Austrian elite-team. Lisa Perterer couldn’t participate for health reasons and was replaced by Teresa Moser.The young group with Theresa Feuersinger, Philip Hor-warth, Sara Skardelly and Lukas Pertl achieved the excel-lent 5th place for Austria. At 3 pm the temperature rose till 30 degrees. The Italians could best deal with the heat and won the elite relay in 1:38:20. Sara Vilic, Alois Knabl, Teresa Moser und Lukas Hollaus took home the 8th place for the Austrian team.

Sara Vilic about the race:“We gave one’s all. I’m glad that Teresa could take Lisa’s place. The morale of our team was great. We wanted to soar some places forward but we’re satisfi ed with our results. Being among the top 10 of Europe is very good after all!”

Bist du mit der Organisation hier zufrieden?Ich muss ein großes Lob an Herwig und sein Team aussprechen. Auch wenn das Wetter einmal leider nicht mitspielte, war alles top organisiert. Vor allem die tolle Stimmung und die vielen begeisterten Zu-schauer haben mich total gepusht. Die Anfeuerung des Heimpublikums war sicherlich auch ein Grund, warum ich bis zum Ende durchgebissen hab und diesen Spitzenplatz bei der Elite rausgelaufen bin.

Wer ist dein Vorbild wenn du jetzt die Elite Damen beobachtest?Ich fi nde es gewaltig, dass Nicola Spirig in diesem Jahr mit dabei war und ich nur 1.33 sec. beim Ren-nen hinter ihr lag. Natürlich schaut man sich die Rennen der Olympiasiegerin an und versucht sich das ein oder andere abzuschauen.

Are you satisfi ed with the organization here?I must say congratulations to Herwig and his team for the amazing work. Even if the weather condi-tions did not cooperate, everything was very well organized. Above all, the great atmosphere and the enthusiastic spectators have totally pushed me. The accentuation of the home crowd was certainly one reason why I‘ve bitten through to the end and I place myself in the top 10. Who is your role model when you think of the elite women?I think it‘s great that Nicola Spirig was with us this year and I fi nished only 1:33 seconds behind her. Of course, everybody is looking what the Olympic champion is doing and tries to learn from her.

Europas Triathleten zu Gast in Kitzbühel Als Tiroler Triathlon Präsident freut es mich beson-ders, dass die 30. EM in Kitzbühel stattgefunden hat. Dem ÖTRV und seinem großen Helfer-Team sind eine perfekte Organisation und gute Betreuung der Athleten zu verdanken. Ausnahmslos alle Athleten haben gekämpft und tolle Leistungen erbracht. Zum Abschluss war es eine Sensation, dass ich Olympia-siegerin Nicola Spirig die Goldmedaille überreichen konnte und sich Olympiasieger Alistair Brownlee Gold holte. Ein großer Dank geht an die zahlreichen Fans, die als „vierter Mann“ beim Triathlon einen gro-ßen Beitrag am Erfolg der Veranstaltung leisteten.

European Triathletes in Kitzbühel

As Tyrolean Triathlon President I am happy that the 30th European Championship took place in Kitzbü-hel. The ÖTRV and his great team of helpers did an outstanding job organizing this enormous event. All athletes performed extraordinary. Not only did start Alistair Brownlee and Nicola Spirig, both could handle the pressure and fi nished by taking the golden medal home. A big thanks also goes to the many fans who suppor-ted us because they are the „fourth man“ in a triath-lon. Congratualions to all participants and winners, Who all did an amazing job!

Zu guter Letzt: Wir sagen danke - danke an alle frei-willigen Helfer, Blaulichtorganisation, Kampfrichter, Mitarbeiter, Sponsoren und öffentliche Stellen, die es ermöglicht haben die größte Triathlon EM aller Zeiten zu organisieren. Unser ganz besonderer Dank gilt den Grundstücksbesitzern und der Bevölkerung der Re-gion Kitzbühel, die außerordentlich viel Verständnis für 4 Tage Triathlonsport in und um Kitzbühel gezeigt haben.
