TRI TRIBUNE
I hope you have had a wonderful summer and that you are off
to a smooth start to a new semester! The summer is rather
quiet around campus, so we are thrilled to have students back!
We are also excited about serving you! We spent most of the
summer making plans and having many discussions about how
we can better serve our TRIO students. So, we are looking
forward to another successful year in TRIO!
There are many upcoming events you will not want to miss. Be
sure, take note of these, and attend! There are many workshops
being offered, by either our TRIO staff or other college
campus staff, and I encourage you to take advantage of these
learning opportunities. We have TRIO Connect Meetings,
Treats for TRIO, and so much more coming soon! TRIO
Service Corps and Independent Women groups will be meeting
soon as well. Be involved, get active and participate!!!
The TRIO staff is here for you. We want to see you succeed.
Please let us know how we can help you!
Wishing you the best,
~ Emily Garrison
BACK
Message from your SGA President... Hello everyone, my name is Sarah Estes and I would like to welcome you to your time at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute and welcome you to the TRIO program. I am proud to say that I am going to be serving as the Student Government Association President for the 2017-2018 school year.
I would like to tell you a little bit about the SGA and our role on campus. SGA is the voice of the students. Our representatives are able to sit on the different committees at the college. As president, I sit on the Executive Council and Board of Trustees. We also plan events for the campus such as spring fling, fall festival, and so much more. We also run intramural sports on Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00-12:50 in the gym. SGA sponsors the college’s clubs, such as the clubs that TRIO has to offer.
If you have any suggestions for improvement, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or stop by the SGA office, E118 anytime. On behalf of the SGA, I hope you have an amazing semester!
The importance of regular class attendance cannot be
overemphasized. When you skip classes, you miss out on
lectures, notes, class discussions, and tips on what may appear
on exams. It’s tempting to miss a class, particularly when you
have an instructor who doesn’t seem to notice. However, do not
kid yourself into thinking that missing a class won’t make a
difference. Plus, your grade may be partially based on your
attendance. And even if it’s not, an instructor isn’t likely to cut
you any slack if you are often a “no show.”

Becky Boone was recently recognized at the CCC&TI annual faculty-staff kick-off as a recipient of the “Colleague of the Year” award. Recipients of this award are
chosen by the faculty and staff of the college as going above and beyond in their service to the institution.
We are very proud of Becky and especially proud to have her in TRIO!
Join me in congratulating Becky on this well-deserved honor!

Biomed/TRIO student attends symposium
and Receives Scholarship…
The 39th Annual North Carolina Biomedical Association's Symposium was held Aug. 22-25 in Pinehurst, NC. One of our very own TRIO students, Nathan Minton was able to attend this year’s symposium. John Noblitt, advisor and former President of the Biomedical Association board, invites second year Biomedical students to
attend the annual event. The four-day event kicks-off with a golf tournament at one of the renowned courses at Pinehurst, followed by several days of events. A vendor hall full of exhibits showcasing Biomedical services and products available to the healthcare profession. New products and the technology behind these products was also on display. Participants of the symposium attend a variety of informational sessions and classes. Nathan attended four classes to earn two certifications during the symposium. These certifications will definitely add to his resume’. (Verathon BVI 9400 Bladder Scanner certification and Verathon Prime Bladder Scanner certification) Nathan and other participants learned how to disassemble and reassemble the devices, as well as how to calibrate and troubleshoot them. During the event’s business luncheon Nathan was awarded the Norman "Red" Reeves Scholarship for $2000, which was sponsored by GMI - Global Medical Imaging out of Charlotte. Congratulations Nathan! Nathan reflects, “I had a blast at this symposium, got to learn some new things, ate some great food, got to meet some great people, and made some new friends. This was a great opportunity to talk to people who are currently in the industry and network with them, as well as speak to potential employers.”
Congratulations to these TRIO
students for their academic achievement
during the summer semester!
