Greetings from the East! Summer is here and we have begun a new Grand Lodge calendar year with the completion of the 187th Annual Communication of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Florida. I would like to begin therefore by extending my complements to our Junior Past Grand Master, Most Worshipful Steven P. Boring, for his successful leadership of our fraternity during the past year, and to offer my most sincere CONGRATULATIONS to our new Grand Master, Most Worshipful Stanley L. Hudson! We can also be very proud that two of our own will also be serving the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Florida as the District Deputy Grand Master and District Instructor for Florida Masonic District 32. Congratulations to Right Worshipful District Deputy Grand Master Harold Gordon (Past Master 2000), and Right Honorable District Instructor R:.W:. Jim Schmidt (Past Master 2009, P.D.D.G.M. 2012). It will be a pleasure to serve with both of you, and I am honored that you will be our District leaders for the remainder of my year as Worshipful Master. Speaking of Grand Lodge, Jupiter Light Lodge No. 340 was well represented and we all had a productive and enjoyable time. We had seven Brothers in attendance, including four elected officers and three Past Masters. In addition to myself, there were Brother Senior Warden Jason Silvers, Brother Junior Shawn Lopez, Brother Secretary W:. George Winterling, R:.W:. D.D.G.M. Harold Gordon, R:.H:. (& R:.W:.) Jim Schmidt, and R:.W:. George Wiggins. It was especially good to see R:.W:. George Wiggins, who now resides in the Tampa area, as he was the first Brother from Jupiter Light Lodge that I met in person, and was also the Brother who Raised me back in 2008. We will all get to see him again soon, as he is scheduled to receive his 25 year pin, and will be making a trip over to be presented with it. Our Brother SW Jason Silvers will be giving the Lodge a full report on the outcome of the legislation at our next Stated Meeting on June 14, so I will leave that to him and only briefly mention three important resolutions. First, the resolution to allow fathers of Master Masons to be admitted into the Masonic Home was passed. Secondly, there will be no change in Per Capita at this time. Finally, the Rezoning & Redistricting Resolution was passed, but as I mentioned before, the only effect this will have on the nine Lodges in current District 32 will be that our District number will change to District 25; however, this will not occur until the beginning of the 2017 Grand Lodge calendar year when R:.W:. Richard Hoover becomes Grand Master.

Greetings from the East!

In May we only had one meeting due to the Grand York Rite Conclave in Orlando and the 187th Annual Communication of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Florida. Yet it was still a very busy month as we held our second annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Night on Thursday, May 12th. Once again, it was a very successful event, and went very smoothly due to the efforts of the many Brothers involved. The evening featured an absolutely marvelous (and huge) prime rib dinner, a keynote address from the Mayor of Jupiter, Hon. Todd Wodraska, presentations of outstanding service awards to five police officers from five different police departments, a K-9 unit demonstration, and a tour of the Jupiter Police Department Mobile Command Center. In addition to the Mayor of Jupiter and the five police chiefs, we were also honored by the presence of our District Deputy Grand Master R:.W:. Roy Strohacker and our Deputy Grand Master R:.W:. Stanley L. Hudson, nineteen days before he was installed as our current Most Worshipful Grand Master. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone who contributed to the success of this event. Particular credit goes to our visionary sponsors and committee: W:.George Winterling, Brother JD Mark Murray, and Jupiter Police Chief Brother JS Frank Kitzerow, as well as to our superb chef, Brother SD Keith Campbell and his crack kitchen crew, Rhonda Campbell, W:. Max Groceman, W:. Jim Mullinax, W:. Don Hires, Brother SS Shane Cullen, and our Senior and Junior Wardens, Jason Silvers and Shawn Lopez. I would also like to recognize Brother (and Jupiter Police Officer) Roberto Diaz and his wife, who transformed our dining hall into such a beautiful and elegant banquet setting for this event. Brother Roberto Diaz was also the recipient of the award from the Jupiter Police Department and it was truly well deserved. Congratulations Officer Robert Diaz! On behalf of Jupiter Light Lodge, I would also like to congratulate the other four award recipients: Officer Matthew Isham from the Juno Police Department, Sergeant Matt Muniz from the Tequesta Police Department, Captain Eduardo Guillen from the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department, and Officer Charles King from the PBC School District Police! We are truly fortunate to have such men serving our communities and we thank all of you for your service! Being able to honor you in this fashion truly makes me feel very proud to be a Mason! Be sure to check out the pictures printed at the back of this edition of the Trestleboard.

May’s charity of the month was the Edna Runner Tutorial Center, and we were able to raise $390 for this worthy organization, which was matched by a contribution from Brother George Koester III. On May 18, Brother Koester, Brother Mark Murray, Brother Charles “Buddy” Berrisford Jr., and myself had the privilege of attending their awards banquet at Limestone Creek Elementary School and serving cake to the children. It was a great night and it was wonderful to see the many cheerful faces as these kids celebrated their accomplishments. Our June charity will be “Let Your Pennies Make Good Sense” which benefits the Masonic Home of Florida. Moving now into the summer months, we have several important and fun events coming up. We are only going to hold one business meeting in the month of June, on June 14, because we have a very special event on our second Stated Communication night. On Tuesday, June 28, we will be conveying the DeMolay degrees for any adult Master Masons who did not belong to the order of DeMolay. This will be open to all Master Masons in good standing, and for the cost of a $75.00 Initiation fee, you will be able to be initiated and gain a lifetime membership in King Solomon’s Chapter of the Order of DeMolay. Brothers who are already eMolay members are invited to attend at no cost, and there is also no charge for any Brother who wants to watch the degrees but doesn’t desire to be admitted into the order. This event is being spearheaded by our Junior Warden Shawn Lopez, and the degrees will be performed by representatives from throughout the state. I have been told that our Most Worshipful Grand Mas-ter may be in attendance as well. The evening will commence at its usual time, with dinner being prepared by the Order of the Eastern Star and being served at 6:30 with the degree conferral beginning at 7:30. Please contact Brother Shawn Lopez for more information or to reserve your place as a candidate. Suggested dress code for this event is coat and tie.

Speaking of dress code, from Memorial Day until Labor Day, officers will be in our summer uniform which will consist of Lodge knit shirts and dress pants, with the exception of the degree conferral and the official visit of R:.W:. D.D.G.M. Harold Gordon, if that should happen during that time. Members attending Lodge are also welcome to come in business casual attire during this span of time. We have placed an order for new Jupiter Light Lodge No. 340 Masonic knit shirts which will be embroidered with our new Lodge logo and each officer’s shirt will also bear his name. Our Senior Warden, Brother Jason Silvers, has also ordered 24 additional shirts, which can be purchased from him and can be taken to the supplier to have the Brother’s name added. Also in June, our Boy Scout Troup 711 will be holding a rummage sale from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm on June 18. This event was originally scheduled for May, but was postponed due to inclement weather. Please contact W:. Don Hires (561-373-4975) for more information or to arrange contributing items to sell. There will also be Lodge cleanup on Saturday June 25, with breakfast being served at 8:30 am. Looking further down the road, this year our annual beach picnic will take place on Saturday, July 9, at Jupiter Beach Island Pavilion in Jupiter Beach Park. Please note that this is a change in location from our usual site in Carlin Park. This event will run from 12 noon to 4 pm. We are also planning to have a Fellow Craft degree on a Called Communication on July 19th. Finally, we are also now gearing up for our annual Jupiter Light Lodge Fishing Tournament, to benefit Quantum House. This will be held on August 6th starting at 7 am and with the awards ceremony and cookout taking place at Burt Reynolds Park. Start getting your team together!

In closing Brothers, May has also been a difficult month for some of our Brothers due to the passing of dear family members. Brother Jason Silvers lost his grandmother on May 10, W:. Mike Loeffler lost his mother on May 12th, and R:.W:. Travis Routt’s mother passed away on May 31. Additionally Brother Travis is also recovering from a car accident that occurred on May 9th. Please keep these Brothers and their families in your prayers! Be safe in your travels my Brothers and Happy Father’s Day to all you dads out there!

Fraternally,

William Owen, Worshipful Master

June has arrived! And yet another Florida Grand Lodge Communication is in our rearview mirror. Congratulations to MW Stan Hudson and his staff on their appointments for the 2016-2017 year. A special congratulation to a couple of DDGM’s, our own Harold Gordon (Dist 32) and my brother Steven Silvers (Dist 22).

Looking forward to another great Masonic year!

As we chug on towards the dog days of summer, we take a moment to reflect on the end of spring. We had a nice turnout for our Law Enforcement event on May the 12th, as we packed the house and issued service awards to distinguished officers from five precincts. This is truly a wonderful event and I really think that it will be a blockbuster

next year, stay tuned.

As aforementioned, a group of your officers represented well at the Grand Communication Jacksonville, all of the relevant legislation was discussed and voted on accordingly, a great time was had by all and we look forward to having this event back in Orlando next year. Only one really interesting note from Grand Lodge, and that is the re-districting and re-zoning of the state. Our district is largely unaffected with the exception of a number change. (we will be District 25 starting June of

2017).

June, will be a little lighter in the way of events but keep an eye out for the DeMolay Degree here at the Lodge on out second stated meeting night (June 28) and as always Lodge clean up on June 25th @ 8:30. My travels brought me to another interesting Masonic spot this past month, I enjoyed a tour of the Grand Lodge of Tennessee with my brother Steven, as we were in town for a convention. The visit inspired

this month’s Masonic factoid.

Greetings from the West!

Greetings from the South!

May was certainly a busy month! First, and foremost, I would like to thank

everyone who helped make our Law Enforcement Officer Appreciation

Banquet a success. I have not words to properly convey my gratitude

toward all who lent a hand.

I would also like to thank everyone that showed up for food, fellowship, and

cleaning of the Lodge at our last clean-up, with a special thanks to our

Senior Deacon for supplying the Jupiter Farms laid eggs, and amazing

hashbrowns and bacon.

Grand Lodge, as observed from the South, was a great time! Bonding with

our own Lodge Brothers and those from our area, and meeting Brothers

from across our Jurisdiction, as well as Brothers from outside our own

Jurisdiction was well worth the travel to Jacksonville. I strongly encourage

any and all Brothers to attend next year’s Grand Lodge, cable tow permitting.

Please join us on Tuesday, June 28th, to become a member of King

Solomon Chapter Order of DeMolay. The Degrees will be performed by the

State Master Councilor, active DeMolays, Senior DeMolays, and myself.

Please see the Worshipful Master’s article for more information, or feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Please come on out to our Lodge Clean-ups for food, fun, and fellowship.

Breakfast is served at 0830, clean-up to follow, many hands make light

work. This month our clean-up will be on Saturday, June ??. Please, if you

have a preference as to a particular cleaning station, come see me.

Fraternally and respectfully,

Shawn Ray Lopez

Junior Warden

What is the Order of DeMolay?

http://www.gotquestions.org/Order-of-DeMolay.html The Order of DeMolay was founded in 1919 in Kansas City, Missouri, by Frank S. Land, director of the Masonic Relief and Employment Bureau of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Land was very proud of the teachings of his craft and very well known globally for his work in Freemasonry, even becoming Imperial Potentate of the Shrine of North America. Near the end of World War I, Land met a young man who had lost his father. The two became friends, and Land learned of other young men that had no adult male figures in their lives to guide them. Land instructed his young friend to invite his friends to their meetings, and in a short time there was a small group of young men meeting on a regular basis at the local Masonic lodge. After hearing stories of Jacques DeMolay (as told by Land), the group decided to name itself for this historical figure who was supposedly connected with Masonry. The philosophy and principles to be embodied in the rituals of the DeMolay were crafted by Frank Land and closely mimicked the rituals of Freemasonry. By 1920 the Order of DeMolay was growing in membership and in standing among the body of Freemasonry. The Order of DeMolay is for young men aged 12 to 21 for the purpose developing civic awareness, personal responsibility, and leadership skills. Focusing on building a bond between members, the DeMolay has grown to more than 1,000 chapters worldwide. All chapters of the DeMolay are sponsored by a Masonic Lodge or another Masonic group such as the Scottish Rite, the York Rite, or the Shrine. The sponsor provides the chapter a place to meet and adult leadership. One of the requirements for membership is the belief in a Supreme Being. Members include Christians, Jews, Mormons, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims and others.

What is DeMolay?

-Source www.demolay.or DeMolay is a club for young men between the ages of 12 and 21. The individual DeMolay clubs are called "chapters." There are hundreds of DeMolay chapters in North America and even more around the globe. DeMolay is dedicated to preparing young men to lead happy and productive lives. Basing its approach on timeless principles and practical, hands-on experience, DeMolay opens doors for young men by developing the civic awareness, personal responsibility, and leadership skills so vitally needed in society today. DeMolay accomplishes this serious mission by combining it with a program of exciting and diverse actives that can be enjoyed by young men with all kinds of interests. Most DeMolay chapters meet twice a month to vote on how the chapter is run and to plan the chapter's other activities. Chapters usually have at least one activity a week. Chapters have social events like dances or parties, fund raising events like car washes or auctions, athletic events like basketball and volleyball, and service events like volunteering at a soup kitchen or cleaning up a neighborhood. DeMolay provides a safe place for young men to have a greater level of independence. The young men decide on the activities, plan them, and carry them out from start to finish. The DeMolay chapter is run completely by its members. Adult volunteers called "advisors" are present at every DeMolay event to help when needed, but they stay in the background as much as possible. DeMolay advisors are the safety net, the resources, the mentors, and the friends, but they are not the planners or the leaders. The young men are.

Page 15: Trestleboard - Jupiter Light Masonic Lodge2016 Lodge Officers Worshipful Master William E. Owen, Jr. 561-512-2299 Senior Warden Jason Silvers 561-222-9781 Junior Warden Shawn Ray Lopez

DeMolay has been the first step toward success for many future leaders. It doesn't happen by accident. When a young man joins DeMolay he puts himself on the fast track to learn skills that will help him in school and throughout life. Members learn how to set goals, organize their time, speak comfortably to a group, make a budget, use their resources, implement their ideas, and think critically. These are life-skills that DeMolay members learn as second nature several years ahead of their peers. Rather than focusing on any one type of activity, DeMolay allows its members to test their interests in a varied program of events. Since 1919, DeMolay has given millions of young men exposure to a broad set of experiences. Members often discover a talent that leads them toward lifelong success. DeMolay is open to young men who are between the ages of 12 and 21, believe in a Supreme Being, and strive to be a good person. DeMolay teaches that one of steps toward becoming a happy and successful person is developing a strong faith and being true to it. Just as important, DeMolay teaches respect and toleration for the beliefs of others. DeMolay does not teach a specific religion and does not require members to belong to any church. Membership is open for young men from all religions.

The namesake of the Order of DeMolay was born in Vitrey, Department of

Haute Saone, France in the year 1244. At

the age of 21, DeMolay joined the Order of

Knights Templar. The Knights Templar

was an organization sanctioned by the

Roman Catholic Church in 1128 to guard

the road between Jerusalem and Acre, an

important port city on the Mediterranean

Sea. The Order of Knights Templar

participated in the Crusades and earned a

name for valor and heroism.

With many nobles and princes sending

their sons to join the Knights Templar, the

Page 16: Trestleboard - Jupiter Light Masonic Lodge2016 Lodge Officers Worshipful Master William E. Owen, Jr. 561-512-2299 Senior Warden Jason Silvers 561-222-9781 Junior Warden Shawn Ray Lopez

Order also became very wealthy and popular throughout Europe.

In 1298, Jacques DeMolay was named Grand Master of the Knights

Templar, a position of power and prestige. As Grand Master however,

Jacques DeMolay was also in a difficult position. The Crusades were

not achieving their goals. The non-Christian Saracens defeated the

Crusaders in battle and captured many vital cities and posts. The

Knights Templar and the Hospitalers (another Order of Knights) were

the only groups remaining to confront the Saracens.

The Knights Templar decided to reorganize and regain their strength.

They traveled to the island of Cyprus, waiting for the general public to

rise up in support of another Crusade.

Instead of public support, however, the Knights attracted the attention

of powerful lords, who were interested in obtaining their wealth and

power. In 1305, Philip the Fair, King of France, set about to obtain

control of the Knights Templars. They had been accountable only to

the Church. To prevent a rise in the power of the Church, and to

increase his own wealth, Philip set out to take over the Knights.

The year 1307 saw the beginning of the persecution of the Knights.

Jacques DeMolay, along with hundreds of others, were seized and

thrown into dungeons. For seven years, DeMolay and the Knights

suffered torture and inhuman conditions. While the Knights did not

end, Philip managed to force Pope Clement to condemn the Templars.

Their wealth and property were confiscated and given to Philip's

supporters.

Page 17: Trestleboard - Jupiter Light Masonic Lodge2016 Lodge Officers Worshipful Master William E. Owen, Jr. 561-512-2299 Senior Warden Jason Silvers 561-222-9781 Junior Warden Shawn Ray Lopez

During years of torture, Jacques DeMolay continued to be loyal to his

friends and Knights. He refused to disclose the location of the funds of

the Order and he refused to betray his comrades. On March 18, 1314,

DeMolay was tried by a special court. As evidence, the court depended

on a forged confession, allegedly signed by DeMolay.

Jacques DeMolay disavowed the forged confession. Under the laws of

the time, the disavowal of a confession was punishable by death. An-

other Knight, Guy of Auvergne, likewise disavowed his confession and

stood with Jacques DeMolay.

King Philip ordered them both to be burned at the stake that day, and

thus the story of Jacques DeMolay became a testimonial to loyalty and

friendship.

Page 18: Trestleboard - Jupiter Light Masonic Lodge2016 Lodge Officers Worshipful Master William E. Owen, Jr. 561-512-2299 Senior Warden Jason Silvers 561-222-9781 Junior Warden Shawn Ray Lopez

Originally, Ten Pearls adorned the outer edge of our emblem to honor our founder and the nine youths whose ties of friendship drew them together in the formation of the Order. When, as comes to every man, the final summons for each one of this honored group, a red ruby takes the place of a pearl.

The Helmet is emblematic of Chivalry, without which there can be no fineness of character.

The Crescent is a sign of secrecy and constantly reminds DeMolays of the duty to never reveal the secrets of their Order or to betray the confidence of a friend.

The Five Armed White Cross symbolizes the purity of intention to always re-member the motto of the Order...”No DeMolay shall fail as a citizen, as a leader or as a Man.” The Crossed Swords denote justice, fortitude and mercy. They symbolize the unceasing warfare of DeMolay against arrogance, despotism and intolerance.

The Stars surrounding the crescent are symbolic of hope and should always remind us of those obligations, and duties which one brother of the Order owes to another.

Every part of the Official DeMolay Emblem has it’s particular significance to the members of the Order of DeMolay.

NEWS FROM STAR OF JUPITER CHAPTER,

ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR

News from Star of Jupiter Chapter No. 312 Star of Jupiter will have two meetings in June, the first one on 6-2-16 being the Official Inspection of the Associate Grand Matron, Sister Barbara Blanton. We will be dining at 5 pm at the Time to Eat Diner on U.S. 1 in Tequesta, with members ordering off the menu Dutch treat. If you would like to attend and join us in fellowship, please contact myself (Judy Meng) at 561-746-9545or our Secretary Gayle Retkowski at 561-743-4137 by 6-1-16 so that we can let the diner know how many will be attending. Our meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. and we do invite and hope that all our members will attend this special meeting! Our second meeting will be on 6-16-16 at 7:30 p.m. and this will be a stated meeting, landmark night and we will also honor our Master Masons as well as fathers and our flag. Our Chapter will be dark during the months of July, August, and September as far as meetings go, but please remember that our workshop meets through the summer on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays from 10:00 to about noon with a covered dish on the 1st Tuesday and bag lunch on the 3rd Tuesday. If you are in the least bit “crafty”, please come and join them. We will also be cooking for the Masons on the 2nd Tuesday through the summer and can always use help, and have our Robert Morris Picnic on 8-28-16 at the Lodge from 4-6 pm. The District Proficiency Classes will be held by P.G.P Jim Lambert on 9-24-16 at 9:00 am until approximately 1 pm. Bring a bag lunch, your Ritual and Green Books and come and learn about the Rules and Regulations and also the floor work of our Order. This is for all members, not just officers, to help you understand what we do and why we do it. This will help answer any questions you may have. Not only is it informative, but Jim makes it fun to learn (and he gives out rewards, too)!

Please remember that you are always representatives of our Order no matter where you are, what Chapter you visit or to whom you may be talking and always act accordingly. You never know who may be listening that knows about the Masonic families and judge the whole organization by your actions! In Star Love, Judy Worthy Matron
