Brethren, Im so proud of the
progress our Lodge is making
that I can't put it into words.
Last Tuesday night, we had 15
brothers, including a couple ofprospective candidates, present
for our fellowship hour,
beginning at 5:00 on Tuesdays,
before our 6:00 practices.
I would like to commend
Brother Thomas Johnson for his
hard work during our 1st degree
practices. He looks good in the
East, and if he continues doing
the same excellent work, we
will, in the future, have a young, inspiring, Master of the Craft in
our Lodge.
I would like to thank brother
rom the Oriental ChairBro. Clarence Chambers,Worshipful Master, Oasis of Mara #735
Hank Kraychir for his very
thoughtful awards ceremony
at our last Stated Meeting. All
present could see the pride
instilled in those that receivedthose awards, myself included.
I would like to invite any
Brother and his family to host
any type of cook-out, social
meeting, with food or
whatever, for fund raising for
the Lodge. I am open for new
ideas in that direction and if
you come forward, you will be
expected to make it happen.
My family is planning onputting on a meal at the Lodge
in a couple of months.
Back to candidates, for those
of you who don't know, som
of us Brothers have taken i
upon ourselves, each one o
us during the year, to find a
person who is worthy of
becoming a brother, or
convincing a sojourner of
becoming one of our
members. Already two of y
have lived up to this.Congratulations! We need
Brothers onboard.
See you all on Tuesday nigh

Welcome Brethren and Friends to a
new month. This month we
celebrate Valentines Day (dont
forget the sweetheart in your life),
and honor the widows of Brothers
departed to the Celestial Lodge.
Our lodge Calendar is filled with
activities for those believing that
Masonry should be more than a
business meeting. Thursday nights,
while listed as practices, alwaysinclude fellowship with brothers
looking for more than just a business
meeting once a month. The third
Thursday of every month has been
designated for Masonic Education,
not lectures but discussions,
delving into the mysteries, history
and origins of freemasonry, designed
to excite curiosity and provide clues
and new ideas for individuals desiring
to know more. Practices are open to
all members, not just officers and
candidates qualified for the work.
Candidates Practices are open to all
who can help out. I have not
experienced having too many
mentors in my life and Im not sure it
would be possible.
Dont think you remember it well
enough to help out? We can help
with that too, all it takes is practice.
Come out and join us. Its not all
work, and there are plenty of ways to
help without stepping into the line of
officers for those who want to help
but not that way.
This year the challenge is before us;
for every member NEEDS to help the
Lodge grow. This is not unique to
our Lodge. The same theme is
playing out in many Lodges across
the nation. While we cannot and
should not actively recruit members,
there are ways to do so, including
suggesting the idea to men you feel
might be interested but not know
how to join. This is not an activity
that should be left to the officers
alone. Its everyones responsibility
to find and recommend qualified
men. Perhaps you know someone
who is not a member of the
fraternity, but would be a good
candidate for our degrees. Be alert
to what they say and be ready to
explain what Masonry is about.
Yucca Valle Lod e #802
rom the Yucca Valley SecretaryBro. Joseph Johnson PMSecretary, Yucca Valley Lodge
Hello again from Joe, now the
Secretary of our Lodge. Its been a
while since I have written in this
wonderful Trestleboard, so beautifully
published by our wonderful editor, T.C.
Dowden. I would like to take this
opportunity to thank him for the hours
he so honorably puts in each month to
keep everyone posted on the goings on
of both lodges. Your educational
teachings continue to inspire,
hopefully, everyone who takes the time
to read them. Believe me; I personally
look forward each month to a new
beginning in the teachings of
Freemasonry.
Now for a little update concerning our
Lodge To the subject of dues: So far
only 50% of the brethren have paid. I
know the dues have gone up,
however, the increase has been long
overdue and I can say that it is still
reasonable comparatively speaking,
especially with all the costs that have
risen in all other phases of life. I will
not belabor this point any further.
Just please try to pay this as soon as
possible and make my record keeping
as easy as possible. Okay. Thank you.
This month is to celebrate love.
Although we continue to practice
loving others each day, it is always
special on Valentines Day. So let's
take a moment of each and every one
of our precious days and be thankful
and loving in a way that might be just
a little extra special to make someo
happy. Also patience has to come
into play, with regards to children.
You cannot control a child's life. A
child will go where it will go. You ca
only stand patiently and wait. A ch
will go to where the excitement is a
then it will return to where it has
known love. Enjoy your life and
always call a friend and share your
loving thoughts. It will not only he
them, but will make you feel better
too. God bless you all and enjoy the
readings in your Trestleboard.
Also, we hope to see you at breakfa
on the first Saturday of each month
Elaine and I will enjoy sharing and
breaking bread together.

Applying the lessons ofMasonry to our lives is whaterfects us, what hews at

I was interested to read lately
that the fastest growing lodges
in Utah are focused onresearch and esoteric Masonry.
Why do you think that is? Do
you believe that is an accurate
depiction of the fraternity?
From what Ive read, men are
in search of deeper meaning
than what theyve found in
other venues. Interestingly, it
was about 100 years ago that
the fraternity similarly
experienced an esotericrenaissance. Check the volume
of Work from that time!
Im willing to bet that the same
is true here in California. We
are in the midst of a revival of
sorts
But what does that mean for us
in our Lodge(s)? It means we
have to recognize that there is
a need to be fulfilled. It means
The Editors CornerBro. T.C. Dowden
we need to be proactive with
our members, especially our
newer members, and offereducational opportunities and
venues that will allow them to
grow within Masonry right
from the day of initiation. Yes,
we acknowledge that Masonry
is a progressive science applied
to the individual. Yes, we still
emphasize the need for
personalstudy and research.
However, the shared
experience of Masonicdiscovery needs to be
emphasized and strengthened.
To that end, the YV Masonic
Education group met and
discussed the Socratic Method
and how the Six Questions
match up with the Four
Cardinal Virtues of Masonry.
Does that sound like an
intriguing conversation to you?
Those of us in the discussion
shared our thoughts, which

that led to deeper discussio

what the Lodge needs to do
provide what our newer

preparing our dinners, it is a lot of
hard work so lets meet our
responsibility for them.
Next we have our Saturday
breakfast on Feb 05, come on down
and enjoy breakfast with your
brothers and families, remember if
you go to Denny's it will cost you
about 10.00 bucks or so why not
come to the lodge breakfast,
donate the same as you would
spend at Denny's. You are then
supporting YOUR lodge, and not
Denny's.
Next, on Feb 6th
the Daughters of

you that are military minded). The
small cost is a $10.00 donation and

small price for GREAT BIG time.
Please call Linda Mason @ 760-

for the day.
Next, on Feb 12, at High Twelve
(noon) is our Special Ladies

you plan to attend and please do,
to show these wonderful ladies we
love them too, the cost will be

This is dedicated to our spouses in honor
of Valentines Day!
A Mason's Wife
From active Masons, resolute,
Our wives and families we salute;
We surely know the price you pay,
Who sit alone while we're away;
No high degrees on you conferred,
In Lodge, your name is seldom heard;
You serve our cause though out of sight,
While sitting home alone tonight;
Masonic papers list our names,
Awards are given, fit to frame;
But yours is absent...you who strive,
To keep our fortitude alive;
You're part of every helpful deed,
On your encouragement we feed;
Without your blessings, how could we
Continue acts of charity?
And so, this poem, we dedicate,
To every Master Mason's mate;
And offer our undying love,
Rewards await in Heaven above
rom the WestBro. Bill Fitch, PMSenior Warden YV Lodge
As I write this in mid-January, I
can see that approximately
three fourths of our members
have paid their dues. We aremaking good progress with that
endeavor. Just a reminder for
those who may have forgotten:
Dues were due on the first day
of January for the year 2011. On
the other side of the coin, we
have eight members who did
not pay their 2010 dues.
The annual fiscal reports due to
Grand Lodge have been
completed and signed. Ill get
them into an electronic format
and off to San Francisco and the
Inspector, probably this week.
In case you didnt know it, every
Master Mason who is a member
of this lodge has the right to see
our fiscal reports, just ask. Also
note that I have the bank
statements with me most
evenings (they include our CDs
in addition to our checkingaccount) when we meet at the
lodge, so there is no reason any
member cannot request to
know our fiscal situation at
virtually any meeting. Ask the
Secretary or Treasurer if you
desire fiscal information
regarding the lodge.
We have eighty-eight Master
Masons in our lodge now. As
you know fourteen of them
were added during the year
2010. We had a very successful
year in 2010. We have several
Entered Apprentice Masons
with whom we have lost contact
and we have been unsuccessful
in contacting them.
We have had a number of fin
dinners last year and look
forward to a continuation of
that as well. Some of themembers have already let it b
known that they want to help
out with the cooking. There
lot of work, behind the scene
that goes into each and every
these meals. The cost of the
dinners is not at all excessive,
come and join us.

The Five SensesThe five senses may be defined as mans faculty for
receiving impressions, and are the means by which
he received his knowledge of the material world.
Their proper use enables us to form just and
accurate notions of the operations of nature, to
provide sustenance for our bodies, to ward offdanger, to enjoy the blessings which God has given
us, and contribute to the happiness and comfort of
others. Their improper use tends to impair our
faculties and weakens our power to grow.
Masonry urges us to make proper use of these
senses and thereby attain to the fullness of true
manhood.

Famous Mason: John Elway, Athlete, NFL Hall of Fame, Freemason
In this issue of the Trestleboard,
and it being Super Bowl month,
we honor Denver Bronco
quarterback, Brother John
Elway, who earned his way into
the National Football League
Hall of Fame during a
professional career that
extended from 1983 through
1999.
John Albert Elway, Jr., was born
in Port Angeles, Washington, on
June 28, 1960, the son of a
football coach. One could
almost say that the game was in
his blood. A grandfather had
once played on a team that had
opposed the Carlisle Indians and
Jim Thorpe. His father had been
a quarterback at Washington
State until injuries curtailed his
playing career. In addition to
the senior Elway known as
"Jack," the family included
mother Janet and two sisters,
Lee Ann who was older and Janawho was John's twin (deceased
in 2002). The family lived at
various locales in Washington
and Montana, as Jack Elway's
coaching positions changed.
As a quarterback at Granada
Hills High, the teenage John
compiled a record that included
5,711 yards passing for some 49
touchdowns. In addition to
being academically strong, Johnexcelled in basketball and
baseball and was drafted by the
Kansas City Royals. Nonetheless,
he opted for college, choosing
Stanford over both Southern
California and his father's San
Jose State.
At Stanford University, he had
an exceptional All-American
career and in his senior year, he
finished second in balloting for
the Heisman Trophy.
The Baltimore Colts chose him
as their number one draft
choice. After a standoff the
Colts management agreed to
trade his contract rights to the
Denver Broncos.
Elways time with the Broncos
was successful, to say the least,
reaching the Super Bowl three
times only to be met withfailure, but retiring while
holding many quarterback
records including five Super
Bowl appearances.
Finally, in Super Bowl XXXII, his
time had come. In what was
billed as a showdown between
the John Elway led Broncos and
the Brett Favre led Green Bay
Packers, Denver finally came
home a winner by a 31-24 score.Just to prove that their Super
Bowl "jinx" had vanished, the
Broncos also took XXXIII in
January 1999 with a 34-19
victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
John Elway was named the
game's "Most Valuable Player."
A few weeks after that savored
victory John Elway announced
his retirement. At thirty-nine he
was ready to hang up his shoes. His career totals now included
4,123 completions; 51,475 yards
passing; and 300 TD passes in
regular season play; plus 3,407
yards rushing and 33
touchdowns scored. His playoff
and Super Bowl statistics would
add some 355 more complet
and 4,964 yards and. 27
touchdown passes. He scoresix TDs in such competition.
made a formal announcemen
his retirement on May 2, 199
John Elway's attainments on
football field speak for
themselves. He ranks third
among all NFL quarterbacks i
passes attempted and
completed, and fourth in
touchdown passes. Elway
entered the National FootbalLeague Hall of Fame in Canto
Ohio, in 2004.
John Elway may have retired
from the gridiron, but he
continued in a variety of
business endeavors. Some of
those include two restaurant
the Denver area and principa
ownership of the Arena Leag
football franchise, the Colora
Crush.
Brother John Elway's Masoni
membership dates from
February 22 and 23, 2002, wh
he was part of a Grand Lodge
Colorado two-day class. He
passed his proficiency on Jun
28, 2002. He is described as
"perpetual member" of South
Denver- Lodge No. 93, a statu
which is usually termed "a life
member" in most grandjurisdictions.
He is also a successful
businessman and philanthrop
Masons should not only be
